Welcome to Houston Devin White!

He was a problem for KC in the SB that year TB won it & he has a rep as a heat-seeking missle tackler, but terrible in the pass game. I wonder what this says about Harris, Al-Shaair and Too-too tho.
@CloakNNNdagger posted earlier that he was good in the pass game but sucked in the run game.

Devin White has solid pass-rush ability and makes some splash plays in coverage, but he’s never found consistency against the run.

Which is it? Quality depth is a good thing. Who does he replace on the roster? Who gets cut?

Guess Harris isn’t coming back anytime soon. My only concern is why was he cut by the Ravens. They -know- linebackers.
He was released by the Eagles after signing a FA deal with them. He lost out in a numbers game and released him prior to deadline so he could join a team of his choice.

Back on August 6 when he initially injured his calf, the "honest" Texans specifically labelled it as a Grade I. They brought him back too soon to practice and as would have been predicted, he immediately extended his injury. :chef:

26 year old. 3 pro bowls. Former 9th pick in the draft. Very Solid pickup

There must be a real reason for this downturn in his play. You don't just fall off a cliff like he has for no reason.
Yeah, if he can get back to where he was, then this is a great move. But until I see it on the field in game time, I will remain skeptical.

Whoops. I meant Eagles.

I’ve been watching a little film. He was the one who slammed Noah Brown to the ground last season. Plus he wrecked Stroud a few times. He has a very big motor that doesn’t quit!!! The guy -also- looks to be a sure handed tackler! Hope he can change the missed tackling culture that’s been rearing its ugly head on our defensive backfield.

It seems everything went sideways when the Bucs and White couldn't reach a deal on an extension after his 4th season. Eventually, White lost his starting job in Tampa. During his 2nd thru 4th years, White averaged 130 tackles and 24 QB pressures a season. The Bucs had a top 5 rushing defense during 2020 and 2021. They slid to 15th in 2022, but were back in the top 5 in 2023.

Was it all about money? Maybe. It's called professional football. White has gone from an All Pro and Pro Bowler to a street free agent. The Texans might see the best White has, as he tries to get his bag.

Who was the Bucs DC during that run? I forget his name but he was really good coaching linebackers, i remember wanting him as our HC when we either went with Culley or Lovey.

Hopeful that DeMeco has that magic to get him back playing well. He’s a depth piece once our starters return anyway. I hope his signing doesn’t spell bad news for any of Aziiz, T2 or Harris’ chances of returning from injury, though.

I'm semi-excited about this. Slight hesitation anytime a team releases a guy. But... we saw Philly release Derek Barnett last year and he was a fine addition.

White was a guy I mentioned in another thread a few days back when I was looking over lists of street FA's. I was surprised he was released by Philly....again cautiously optimistic but the proof will be in the pudding.

To me...this tells me that Harris is still not close. I think their games are relatively similar, so White should fill a similar role once he gets the playbook down. Hopefully they can start to work him in as soon as this Sunday. I could see him starting sooner rather than later, and possibly even take Harris' role permanently for 2024.

Not at all optimistic as it's been quite some time since he's been good and he's always played a bit like a headless chicken.

That said it's a pretty no risk free hit so I'll always support that. Plus Demeco coaching a LB there's always a chance.

So a 2nd team all-pro played like a headless chicken?

He did a lot yeah. A big part of that was the defense and how they played. They aggressively flow towards the ball, makes them vulnerable to fakes but relies on fast LBs to recover.

We actually picked on it against Tampa last year, making White and David chase things and attack the spaces they vacated. I think even Demeco pointed it out in a presser.

Clearly Demeco thinks there maybe something he can coach up there though.

That said his tape had a lot of headless chicken in it though and I stand by that.

A headless chicken that has been a pro bowler and second team all pro. He must've done something right as opposed to always playing like a headless chicken.

OCTOBER 25: As expected, White’s deal will check in well south of where he was in Philly. He will join the Texans on a one-year, $1.13MM contract that will bring a $688K cap hit to Houston’s payroll, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson tweets. Due to offset language, this will bring some minor cap relief to the Eagles.
