Watson is making up GM input promise (full article)

You judge. I honestly think it sounds right. Seeing he was not even in town. Had he been promised, I don't know if anyone would have been hired till he returned. However, it makes a good story to get more people behind him.

OK, here's my take. The guy who has written glowing articles about Jack Easterby's influence on the Patriots and broke the story on Jack leaving New England (Ben Volin of the Boston Globe) found this nugget from "a league source". Like maybe, Jack Easterby?
Anything's possible. However, with the"WE WILL NOT TRADE WATSON" stance. I don't think Cal is going to be happy IF it was Easterby. Making me think that he is not the source.

This has already been discussed at length. HC was and why Watson suggested only Saleh and Bienemy.

So, Pro Football Rumors posted that and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had this take. Go figure.

These guys are pushing the drama aspect of what's going on with the Texans by making issues where there are none. JJ Watt will more displeased than we have seen him was still a 32 old making 17 million with a huge injury issue. Releasing him is a better football move than sentimentally keeping Watt at full price.

and how can you criticize the Texans for not taking phone calls when apparently Watson isn't either. It is up Watson to be the man a go this his bosses office and them face to face why he is not honoring the contract he signed a few months ago.

There are plenty of post of mine where I make fun of the Texans, but not immediately caving to Watson's feelings isn't one of those things that I am going to give them business about (and yes I still think that this is going end worse for parties involved than it need be)

and what his agent said about that tweet is also something to take inconsideration bear in mind that this article is a just a story also so, the fact Watson hasn't said anything like JJw has done meh i have no idea think its time for a break til otas

Rumor me this, rumor me that. . .I refuse to give a rat's ass about anything the media generates for attention and clicks.

Every week it's something "new" from these TMZ-wannabe media doofuses.

Wake me up when he doesn't report to a mandatory workout or the Texans pull the trigger on a trade. Otherwise, it's all just pointless navel-gazing.

I think Easterby has been in Cal's ear. Cal may have made a promise to Watson about getting his input and may have wanted to honor that but when Caserio was equally interested in leaving the Patriots to become the Texans GM....maybe it was Easterby telling Cal he needed to make a decision now to avoid losing Caserio to another club.

At the same time, I could easily see Watson's agent being in his ear about the possibility of playing for a better team versus continuing his career with the Texans who are absolutely entering an ugly cap situation and a 2021 draft devoid of high-end picks. He may have been in communication with Watt and found out that Watt was going to ask (demand) his release since he wasn't prepared to finalize his NFL career going through a rebuild. Toss in some of the statements from both AJ and DH.....Watson may suddenly be asking himself as to how can I get out of this situation? Enter Cal, Easterby, and Caserio providing him his ammunition by hiring the GM while he was on vacation and then selecting the HC without any of his input......Watson and agent, Texans have wronged me, I demand a trade and will never play for the Texans again.

So, I think both sides are in the wrong which continues the saga of the Texans FO failures. Texans should call Watson and invite him to join Cal, Easterby, Caserio so they can announce that they have agreed to mutually part ways and the Texans are officially taking offers for consideration. End all this juvenile Toroshite and get down to business. Making a public announcement would make Caserio's phone number very popular with teams trying to figure out what they need to bring to the table to determine if they've offered enough to be in contention.

Except DW4 was involved with the HC hire. It was reported that he participated in the BIenemy interview.

DW4 may have felt that Bieniemy was his selection and the team should've honored his wishes. Didn't work out that way, so he's either chosen or his agent has advised him to blow off every attempt by the team to have him come in and have a face to face meeting. How does this get better with all parties involved becoming satisfied and moving forward?

It doesn't & its like any divorce really that if done right, there will be no winners or satisfied parties...................................unless someone blinks & caves. We as an organization (& fans) will lose the services of 1 of the brightest talents in the game playing qb, & he should be hit in his pockets................& if he is just dead set on never suiting up for the Texans ever again, he should be made to pay with some of his prime playing time/career too.

After the covid season, many teams find themselves in the same cap situation. & Houston doesn’t have a 1st or 2nd round pick because they already used it to protect Watson’s blindside.

It’s hard for me to see these as driving factors.

then selecting the HC without any of his input......Watson and agent,
Again, I find it difficult to look at the Texans search process & come away thinking none of Watson’s input was valued. Bluntly looked like reverse racism.

Maybe not the way Watson wanted it to go, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t go the way Cal wanted it to go.

So, I think both sides are in the wrong which continues the saga of the Texans FO failures. Texans should call Watson and invite him to join Cal, Easterby, Caserio so they can announce that they have agreed to mutually part ways and the Texans are officially taking offers for consideration.
I think Watson should tweet “I’ve come to my senses. TX4L” Then publicly announce he was wrong & had no basis for his shenanigans. Collect his check & go about helping the Texans win a Super Bowl.

From what I had been told , they had been in contact with Bieniemy just days after OB was fired and that it was all but a done deal that he'd be the next coach ... That belief held inside the building until Culley was announced. (I have some theories on the Culley situation but no information to back it up).

But lets back up a step .... That wasn't when the tantrum was thrown , it was thrown at the announcement of the GM hire.

So what does that tell us ? The coach decision didn't have a damn thing to do with his tantrum. It was something that occurred prior to that. It was also likely something prior to the hiring of Caserio as well because he had been ignoring calls prior to that too.

I really think the bottom line is that he doesn't like the roster and doesn't like the idea of playing thru a rebuild year. Can't say I blame him for not believing in the roster , they'll be bad with or without him but he signed that contract and should honor it.

Right on the money. Seeing Watson had been told, and we know it, that Caserio was on the list. He can claim if he wants (if he ever speaks for himself) he was unaware. However, context clues are plain to see. Why after he signed a contract with an out clause would Watson not see the possibility? We have only been after Nick C since before Bob passed. Last year we were charged with tampering for it. Unless he was living under a rock he knew Nick C was the top candidate for GM. It is very interesting that he went silent before he was signed and also did not answer his phone when the team called about anything. Then, he gets home and says he wasn't contacted? A little odd in timing.

Best guess is Watson thought over what JJ said. His agent got in his ear after he saw/heard about it. And yes made it into a reason to go to a team with a good chance to win a Super Bowl. Tied perfectly to the GM hire and they probably didn't expect it to come out showing the odd timing was BEFORE they hired Nick C.

Just my .02 cents but it fits very well

Does belief = reality? Does believing in a false premise >= reality? The cognitive bias of sports fans on internet forums can be a great source of comedic relief.
Well some believe when a person only wants to work with minorities it says something about them and what their all about. Others choose to bury their heads in the sand.

When some SEE that Watson‘s high school, college and NFL HCs were not minorities, he vouched for his non-minority OC and had professed his love for his non-minority NFL HC, it should say something about him and what he is about.

However, if others choose to ignore facts to speculate without any proof to push divisive narratives, their heads should be buried in the sand because no one wants to hear that illogical, unreasonable, speculative gibberish

We will have to agree to disagree.

I'm not going any furtherwith this discussion, but I would point out that he's a much different guy than he was in high school/college. Dont believe me then ask the momma's.

If, if this is true, then I'd love to hear why Bienemy wasn't hired. Watson would have been told why Bienemy wasn't hired if he participated in the interview, wouldn't he?
Whatever the reason(s), if Watson wants be a part of front office executive decisions in addition to playing QB, then he's got to be mature enough to comprehend the big picture perspective as an executive, not a player. JMO.

The reports that I've heard from the national media are that Bienemy wants too much power over the roster for a first-time head coach and that he is not coming to HC interviews prepared, but instead sort of winging it. I like the guy in his public interviews, but that's probably a far cry from what owners want/expect from a potential head coach hire.

Exactly, last I heard, Bienemy wanted control of the roster and personnel and Caserio likely wasn’t having that. This is understandable considering if he were to give that up, he may as well have stayed in NE. DW4 for his part probably wants a HC with that power so as to offer some protection against Easterby meddling. But it’s simply not his place.

Or he thinks a HC with that kind of power will make any trades he wants to make Watson’s job easier. We saw that with OB and the Tunsil trade. Now I’m not saying that is automatically a bad thing, I agreed with the trade then and without hindsight I’d agree with it now, but also when you put all your eggs in one basket you get what we see now with a defense that barely slows teams down.

That’s what happens when you have a coach who can’t coach & you’re convinced it’s a talent problem.

Same thing happened when Kubiak was here. We kept feeding resources into the defense seemingly going nowhere.

But Kubiak made the offense work with little talent.

Then Wade gets here & we go from a twenty something defense to a top 5 unit. But by then the politicking got to be too bad & everybody was trying to prove they were right & not winning games.

It was better coaching (Wade) but an even greater infuse of talent (Watt, Manning, Joseph).

I think the there was very little talent on the offense was fake news. Aj/Foster/OD/Brown/Myers etc... There was talent on that offense.

I'm not denying the infusion of talent. We're talking about 27th ranked to 5th or something like that. That wasn't happening on talent alone.

I think reading comprehension is an acquired skill. I didn't say there was no talent on the offensive side. Just that we spent more resources on defense.

Practically everyone on defense was a 1st or 2nd round pick at one time. Similar to our offense last season.

Don't skip over the word "practically"

Rick Smith is still the best GM this franchise has ever had. :fingergun: Yeah, it's a low bar, I know. . .

Put the 2009 Texans offense with the 2012 Texans defense and we are looking at a team that would at least make it to a conference championship game.
