Watson cant play football

With 26 sacks and 154 yards lost, Deshaun Watson is on pace to break two ugly NFL records

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was sacked seven times in Sunday’s loss to the Commanders, giving him 26 sacks through five games this season. And that puts him on pace to break one of the NFL’s most dubious records.

Watson is on pace to take 88 sacks in 17 games, which would break the record set by David Carr of the expansion Texans in 2002. Carr was sacked 76 times that year, and that has been the record ever since.

Watson has lost 154 yards on his sacks, which also puts him on pace for an inauspicious NFL record: If Watson continues at his current pace for 17 games, he’ll finish the season having lost 524 yards on sacks. The record is 489 yards lost on sacks, set by Randall Cunningham in 1986.

Some will blame the Browns’ offensive line for Watson’s sacks, but sacks generally reflect more on a quarterback’s inability to recognize the pass rush and get rid of the ball quickly than on an offensive line’s inability to protect him. Watson deserves most of the blame.

Even when Watson was playing well earlier in his career, taking too many sacks was a problem: He was a Pro Bowler for the Texans in 2018, but he led the league that year with 62 sacks and 384 yards lost.

Will Watson actually break the records set by Carr and Cunningham? He probably won’t, for the simple reason that if he doesn’t do a better job of avoiding sacks, he probably won’t play 17 games.

Did y’all create a separate thread for the Watson stuff?

Didn’t y’all shut down a thread that was specifically for the Watson stuff?
There was a Watson legal drama thread & a Watson football thread. It was the offseason, not much football stuff to talk about. That thread turned into a NSFW thread about Watson's personal life & anyone loosely associated with him. There were 6 pages of non-football related gibberish.

Our GameDay thread & the NFL random thought thread got flooded with Watson stuff that people who go to the GameDay thread, especially, don't want to see. So I moved it all here.

This thread will be closed if it becomes about anything other than Deshaun Watson as he relates to football.

Censorship

Just another case of the mods doing whatever they want to do. No need to say more. Do whatever the hell you feel like doing. I know y'all just want the Derrick situation to go away. Y'all have tried to do everything possible to make this discussion go away. Closing threads even though the Texans were still using Browns draft picks. Moving threads, censoring threads.

Hell I almost got perm banned because I said Derrick wasn't as good as many thought he was and that he was a worse person. I get that mods dont like to be proven wrong, so regardless if Derrick's poor play and off field transgressions are national news, just do what y'all have wanted to do since y'all have been proven wrong and shutdown all Derrick threads. Y'all know that's really what y'all want to do and where this is headed. So just shut it down. I still enjoy the hypocrisy that goes on around these parts. BTW, other mods agree with me on this.

If what you are saying is true:
  1. The mods don't want any Watson threads
  2. The mods do whatever they want to do
Why are there 2 Watson threads?

They've killed one and I know there's been internal conversation amongst y'all about ending the others.

Browns HC Kevin Stefanski said earlier this week that he would consider whether it would be better for the offense if he gave up playcalling to OC Ken Dorsey and he announced his decision today.................he will retain playcalling duties.

CONFIRMATION: Watson is blind, deaf AND DUMB............. :smiliepalm:

Deshaun Watson on calls for his benching: I don’t hear it; I don’t see it

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will remain the starter this week, and coach Kevin Stefanski said he gave no consideration to benching him.

“I know you can take out plays and look at that and there’s obviously plays that Deshaun wants back,” Stefanski said, via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. “There’s calls that I want back. That happens in the course of a game. We just have to do our best from a coaching perspective, from a player’s perspective, to execute what’s out there.”

Watson ranks 27th in passer rating at 74.8, with only Jacoby Brissett, Will Levis and Bo Nix ranking worse. Cleveland ranks 32nd in yards per game, yards per play, passing net yards per play, sacks per pass play and third down efficiency, 30th in passing, 29th in first downs per game and 27th in rushing.

Critics, fans, media, sports talk radio — literally everyone outside the organization — is calling for Watson’s benching in favor of Jameis Winston.

“I don’t hear it,” Watson said Wednesday. “I don’t see it, so I’m not on Twitter. I’m not on any social media or things like that.
So anytime that stuff comes up, the only time I first hear it is either you guys are bringing it up or somebody else outside [the building], and I just don’t know who it’s coming from.”

Watson, who threw for just 125 yards last week, has yet to throw for 200 yards in a game. He has five touchdowns and three interceptions.

“I feel like there’s been opportunities for us to be able to play winning football and hit the open guy,” Watson said. “Maybe there was one or two things that were kind of off track that didn’t capitalize and we didn’t capitalize on that. And then there’s been some times where as a quarterback and misreading some things or second guessing some things, but at the same time I think that’s part of just getting the reps and part of watching film and trying to find ways to get better each and every week.”
