Watching A&M play football is just like watching the Houston Texans.

Of years past (I'm still holding out for hope that this year will be different), but seriously how do you Aggie fans do it? You are double punched from Saturday to Sunday.

Seriously is there something flawed with their (Houston and A&M's) philosophy/schemes that cause them to consistently play like this, because this Aggie team (regardless if they pull this game out or not) is A CARBON COPY of what Texan fans have had to deal with over the years.

The ability to blow any lead, no matter how late in the game.

The inability to make "the play" to seal a game.

The ability to shoot themselves in the foot.

The inability to win any "big game".

And the blatant display of a lack of mental toughness.


My respect for Aggie fans just went up 10 fold, I don't know how y'all do it. Just watching the Texans alone over the past couple of seasons (again, still hoping this year is different, but that Saints game was déjà vu all over again) has already given me a ulcer and caused me to pull my hair out. I don't know if y'all are either the toughest S.O.B.'s on this board or just sick sadistic bastards who enjoy punishment. :)

I swear I was coming on here to basically post the exact same thing. Maybe the Kubiak anti Mojo rubbed off too much on Sherman.
 
I dunno, I'm kinda desensitized to it after years of incompetence and failure. The team always finds a way to fail, and I don't know why. Maybe it's recruiting, maybe it's coaching, but it's pretty sad.
 
At least Christine Michael is representing our alma mater West Brook High School well. That fumble was costly, but can't wait to see him in the NFL. He's really bulked up.

Sorry A&M fans. The sad thing is, is that A&M team has talent everywhere this year (just like Houston has had), but for some reason they just can't put it together and get over the hump (sounds familiar doesn't it?) My god, I hope this isn't a precursor of things to come in Houston this season. I don't think I can take another season like that.
 
Seems like A&M has had a tough time with the big name opponents since RC Slocum replaced Jackie Sherrill......especially the ones outside of Texas.

I'm not sure what their record is against ranked opponents after Jackie Sherrill, but I'd bet it hasn't been good. I expect more of the same in the SEC unless they bring in a new coach with a personality.
 
Insult to the Texans, as we will get better at some point.

aTm will be the SEC's doormat for decades.

Same thing happened on DTV. It was time for them to switch to the GT-NC State game and it's blocked out here. I watched the rest of it on ESPN News.

Is it really a insult though? IDK, watching them play it looks like a spot on comparison. When Gary Kubiak's Houston Texans look in the mirror, Mike Sherman's A&M team stares back at them. What conference they play in is kinda irrelevent, they do the same thing in the big 12.
 
its so frustrating because we've clearly outplayed both teams in the first half the past two weeks, but then the other team makes halftime adjustments and we can't respond/make our own adjustments. just embarrassing to see our teams get so completely outcoached in the second halves after owning the first.
 
A&M scored 20 points in the 1st half of the OSU game, and 35 in the 1st half of the Arky game. A&M scored 9 points in the second half of the OSU game (safety included), and 3 points in the second half of the Arky game.


A tale of two halves indeed...
 
Coaches really earn their money in the 2nd half...Coach Sherman needs to give aTm a refund for the last couple weeks.
 
The SEC is what the old SWC conference used to be . Very talented and very dirty recruiting . A&M better call Jackie Sherrill .
 
Texas Tech has been having problems when starting the game, now I hear that A&M has been having problems when ending the game. Next week ought to be an interesting game.
 
Sherman is one of Garys mentors and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

On that 4th and 1 at midfield I was thinking what would Gary do? They're both conservative and unwilling to take chances. You can win games this way. But you wont win games against good teams with this philosophy. Poor Aggies.....
 
Thanks for the respectful post, CB. Yeah, Saturdays and Sundays over the years have been like getting drawn and quartered. It has been a brutal existence.

Mike Sherman is a joke. I daresay he is a worse coach than Kubiak. The only reason that guy is even remotely thought highly of in football circles is because he had the luck of coaching a top 10 all time QB in Favre. Watching him every week is like having my testicles removed. A&M giving the guy an extension is the ultimate shot to the gonads.

What's so sad is the team has the talent, finally. I truly believe with an Urban Meyer or Les Miles, or hell even a Mack Brown, A&M would be a championship contender. Instead, they will probably be Cotton Bowl bound once again just to get their faces stomped in the ground once again.

I'm sick of these gray haired, old ****tards the Aggies have trumpeted out at head coach. Even RC was terrible because he couldn't coach an offense to save his life. Then there was the failed Fran experiment. And now we have Fran 1.1 in Mike Sherman.

Can you see why I am truly trying to talk my heart into loving another team? Lornhorns, Tigers, Crimson Tide, I don't care. Just someone that can win a freaking big game or two.
 
A&Ms problem for years has been their coaching. It's pretty obvious now that they over-achieved last year.
 
Yep, the Texans and A&M are definitely one in the same.

The toughest teams that Houston and A&M have to face on their schedules is themselves :kubepalm:

I've always had a theory. The Aggies I know usually get offended when I bring this up but it seems to ring true time and time again.

I think it goes back to the inferiority complex that is seemingly built in to all Aggies. I know this is usually reserved only for the University of Texas, but I see another pattern as well (at least with football coaches).

This inferiority complex that they have seems to make them think that they always have to prove how smart they are, even when nobody doubts them.

Example: The other team hasn't stopped you for less than 3 yards on any run play the whole game and you're facing a 3rd and 1. So if you run the ball it's a done deal. Well, an Aggy coach would think to himself, "well we're running all over them, so let's throw it because they won't expect that." Who the hell cares what they expect you to do? If they can't stop it, then just do it anyway.

Instead of just going with the logical choice, an Aggy coach has to prove that he is the smartest guy in the stadium by doing exactly the opposite of what he is expected to do.

I don't know what you're talking about. Nothing in football is a given. The Aggies tried a run with Michael on 4th and 2 near the end of the game and didn't get it, after averaging 7.1 ypc throughout the game. Isn't that exactly what you're saying they should do? Run the ball when it is successful?

Throughout the Arky game, A&M went 25/35 for 247 passing yards, and had 54 rush attempts for 381 yards. Both were working pretty well if you ask me, but the ground game was most effective. The problem with A&M's game was more of execution and retarded zone coverage, not play calling. Without examples I really don't know what else to tell ya, if you want to start with a conclusion and generalize it into the A&M program then go right ahead. I would expect nothing less of a Longhorn.

Comparing apples and oranges vs. the 4th-and-1 on the ARK 45. The aggies had been rolling and ARK ahdn't been moving the ball all that well to that point. It was a vote of no-confidence by the coach at a pivotal point in the game. Get the 1st, get a score and ARK might just implode. They drove the field after the punt.

You mean in the 3rd quarter? Yeah, I wish they had gone for that one (4th and 2 btw), but at that point Arky had only scored a FG in the 2nd half. It's not like they had started tearing up our defense yet.

I am wondering where Bah007's assertion is coming from though, as the only instances that seem to fit what he alludes to are 4th down situations. 3rd and 4 at the beginning of the 4th and we rush it for 3 yards? I don't know where he's getting this from. Seems more like projection of Kubiak's failures onto a school for which he never called plays.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to...a great chance to "seal the deal" early and Sherman went ultra-conservative and only gained net 20 yds as a result of the punt. (It's the same way I felt when the Texans went three and out in N.O. after taking the lead and getting the ball back)
 
I was going over this exact topic in my head today, when I was remembering a play (blown 3rd down and long in the 2nd half) and for the life of me couldn't remember if I was thinking of the Texans game or the A&M one. There really is a similar feel to the teams, especially over the last two weeks - looking dominant, doing some stupid thngs, letting the other team back into the game, and finding a way to lose when they should win.

Big difference of course is that the Texans managed to pull things together in the 4th quarter yesterday. That still gives me some hope for the Texans - they finally did what they needed to to win. It's hard to have any trust in the Texans, considering how many times they've let us down, but for now, there is still hope for a strong season, and we should expect they go to the playoffs.

Meanwhile A&M has already blown their chance at what could/should have been a strong season, losing two games that they should have won. Even if they pull things together and turn the season around, they have missed what was probably their best chance at a strong season record for a quite a while. Everyone knows that A&M is not going to be very competitive in the SEC at first, especially with next year being somewhat of a rebuilding year anyway. It's annoying that, for the rest of the season, we're looking to salvage things, rather than compete for a dominant record.
 
Man, today's game again felt just like those two Aggie losses:
  • Completely dominate other team for most of the first half.
  • Let up a bit, let the other team get back into the game.
  • Show an inability to play anything like you were the first half.
  • Make the game competetive at the very end, but still come up just short.
This time, the letting up started at the 2 minute warning of the 2nd quarter, rather than the beginning of the 3rd, but it still had the same feeling. I'm sick of it. I'm at the point I'd rather get blown out than have another one of these games.
