Warren Moon A Football Life

In many ways, you are lucky. The historical chokes of the Oilers - from the '70's Luv Ya Blue years to the epic and consistent choking year after year of the run and shoot - left indelible impressions on many of us old Oilers fans.

I will forever be a cynical sports fan, never truly believing "my team" can win it all until it happens. I expect to see huge leads choked away, never expect "my team" to make huge come from behind wins, and honestly wonder if this city suffers from some kind of football 'curse', even though I'm not superstitious. All of this from being an Oilers fan.

Funny, because my buddies who are/were Cowboys fans are the exact opposite because of the historical Cowboys championship histories. 'cak and I have talked about that, and it comes from how we were formed as football fans at impressionable ages.

STOP JUST STOP STOP STOP STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just stop bringing this crap up. I can't take this much more. Cleveland and Elway and Montana and ********* Buffalo... I can 't take much more of this.

The difference between Dallas fans and us is that they always have hope and we are the opposite of hope. There is no success. No happiness. Endless roller coaster of mediocrity.

I've nothing but love for the Tyler Rose, but Mr. Warren Moon played QB at a time when men of color were told they COULDN'T. Men like Vince Evans and Doug Williams were in the NFL BEFORE he was, but he was a far better QB than both combined. He had to EARN his way into the league and into the record books and for that he has my admiration and respect.

I get that and interestingly I became a Bucs fan as a kid for the same reason. I am not black but I thought it was cool that they had a black QB. I liked the Bucco Bruce logo and the orange uniforms also, however what got my attention was Doug Williams. Doug Williams was the 2nd NFL jersey I ever owned after Earl's.

After Bud fired Bum I stopped following the Oilers and only cared about the Bucs for a few seasons, then they let Doug Williams go to the USFL. After that was a period of time that I stopped following the NFL altogether. Both teams sucked and I got into other things, mainly music.

What brought me back? The Oilers signing Warren Moon. Another black QB, wearing the odd #1 jersey playing for my original hometown got me interested again.
