Vote Mathis into the Pro Bowl

touttail

Rookie
The voting has started for Pro Bowl players. Yep we have a bad team but should have a couple go to the Pro Bowl, DRob for sure!

I was ticked off that Pbuc was listed as our kick returned and not Mathis.

I can honestly only vote for D-Rob and Mathis, and when I voted two weeks ago I didn't vote for Mathis because he hadn't turned it on like he has the last two weeks. I would love to vote for Davis, but there are too many other good RBs in the AFC with superior numbers (Edgerrin James and Willis McGahhe currently lead the NFL in yards and Tomlinson is 5th and all have many more TDs). Dunta definitely deserves to be there.

D-Rob for sure!!!
DD is great but is probably behind LT, Edge, McGahhee
Love to see Mathis in there.
That's about it.

D-rob and that's about it. Mathis simply hasn't been on the field enough to warrant a probowl appearance yet. Hopefully he can stay healthy and help us win games.

I would like to see Mathis there but unless he really puts on some yards and TDs in the second half of the year he'll have a hard time beating out bigger names like Dante Hall, even if he puts up numbers that are superior.

i voted for David Carr

I'll hold off on Carr until 2007 when Andre, Mathis, and Gaffney propel Carr to a 4000 yard, 35 TD year under a new OC that wants to throw the ball.

I voted D-Rob...Mathis definetly would deserve it if he saw more action but he just doesnt get the chance to see enough.

i honestly dont think anybody on this team deserves to go to the probowl. and i bet none of them do.

if i had to chose someone i would pick. d. davis.

The texans don't deserve to have anyone in the probowl not one person belongs and mathis don't even put him on the same plane as terance mcgee.... only mcgee and danta hall deserve votes for kickoff return cuz they are a notch above evry one else

Are you kidding, by the end of the year Mathis will be the best returner...Look at all the experience he is getting with so many kickoff returns!:sarcasm:

while your right that mathis doesnt deserve to be in the pro bowl.(hes only returned kickoffs in about 2 games due to inj). you might wanna watch the guy before you declare anyone a notch above him. he looked pretty good in our game against clev.

compare his stats with mcgees than we will see

they are pretty comparable.
mathis ave 30 yards per return with a td
mcgee ave 32 yards per return with no td

those are the top 2 in the league. next guy is at 28 yrds per return. danta hall is down the list a ways.

Chad Stanley should make the problem the guy can kick the heck out of the ball, maybe because i see him alot in the coarse of a game ive kinda fallin in love with his kickin style, the guy is a beast, he has such good technique and form, no other punter can match him, he should really be looked at as the AFC Punter in the problem hands down, he's like the payton manning of punters!

Top 10 AFC Returners:
KR YDS AVG TD PR YDS AVG TD
Terrence McGee CB, BUF 20 639 32.0 0 0 0 0.0 0
Jerome Mathis WR, HOU 25 759 30.4 1 1 1 1.0 0
Justin Miller CB, NYJ 28 781 27.9 0 6 9 1.5 0
Darren Sproles RB, SDG 35 898 25.7 0 14 107 7.6 0
Chris Carr CB, OAK 36 902 25.1 0 21 121 5.8 0
Pacman Jones CB, TEN 18 448 24.9 0 8 77 9.6 0
Darrent Williams CB, DEN 12 298 24.8 0 13 83 6.4 0
Joshua Cribbs WR, CLE 16 394 24.6 1 1 5 5.0 0
Dante Hall WR, KC 34 835 24.6 1 21 149 7.1 0
Ellis Hobbs CB, NE 14 338 24.1 0 0 0 0.0 0

I definitely give Mathis the edge over McGee, Miller, Jones, Williams, Cribbs, and Hobbs. Sproles, Carr, and Hall can make a case since they have so many more yards and a decent amount of punt return yards too, but among those three Dante is the only one with a TD and all three have significantly lower averages, so I say it's a toss up between Mathis and Hall. Statistically I give the edge to Mathis but Hall has a prior reputation.

Sorry the format doesn't carry over well but if you can follow the stats here they are pretty clear, or go to:

Stanley is an ACE for punting the ball inside the 20 yard line!

D-Rob isn't worthy of a Pro Bowl nod either. He's part of a defense that truly stinks this year and he sure hasn't set the world on fire.

Why? Because of what he did LAST year? If D-Rob was an All-Pro, the Texans would have more turnovers and wouldn't be 1-7. Nobody from the Texans deserves this distinction. Not a one.

I said Mathis earlier, but he has to have one heck of a second half season with all his earlier injuries. He's like 4th in yards now.

ehhh maybe next year...

i dont think anyone deserves to go this year to be honest. nobody has risen up,or else i could name em.

It is more of a popularity contest than anything anyway. But D-Rob is an emerging superstar. Evans Fan can stay on his own board and talk smack, or at least wait until your team is 500 for the season. You guys should be doing better also.

Show me a defense that can't get to the opposing quarterback and you'll a secondary that can't cover.

i can see the logic in this post. a lot of how the secondary performs is based on how good of a pass-rush u can muster. most big plays by the secondary are because the pass-rush 1)forces the opposing QB to hurry his throw, 2)throws off the timing of the QB 3)disrupts his train of thought. when u can do any of those, then the secondary's job is alot easier. thats why i feel like d-rob was snubbed for defensive rookie or year and a pro-bowl trip....because he managed 6 or 7 ints and 2 sacks, and the defense provided hardly any rush to the QB at all. he will shine once the pass-rush gets better, dont worry about him.

Look for Mathis to be added to the Pro Bowl ballot by tomorrow or the next day. The Texans had the league replace Buchannon with Mathis. It may be too late but we can make a push by voting for him.

Can someone answer me if anybody else has 2 kick-off return for TDs?

No one. He's actually second in yardage as well. McGee has 22 returns for 695 yards, a 31.6 avg. Mathis has 36 for 1131, a 31.4 avg. McGee has zero TDs. Chris Carr for OAK has 50 returns for 1243 yds, a 24.9 average, with zero TDs. I think it's pretty clear that Mathis is the best kick returner this season. Hall has 45 returns for 1085 and 1 TD, with a 24.1 average.

I suppose he and Chad Stanley are the only Texans that would have any sort of serious consideration for the Pro Bowl.

bigTEXan8 said:
OK...next question. Who has returned at least one?

Winbush (JAX), Cribbs (CLE), Hall (KC) - in the AFC. Ponder, Robinson, Betts, and Johnson in the NFC.

Doesnt Mathis have 2 td's?

Yes. That's what we were saying up above. No one else does. He's second in return yardage and second in return average by 0.2 yards, behind someone with almost half as many yards.

keep the comedy for mad tv buddy have u seen mathis ???????

DD? Come on, his avg is 3.8 yards per carry. That's not Pro Bowl stats. Jonathan Wells has a better average than DD. (7.0)
