ATLANTA -- Vince Young, who led Texas to the national championship in a comeback victory over two-time defending champion Southern California in the Rose Bowl, was named this season's winner of the Manning Award.

The award, given to the nation's best quarterback, is the only one that takes into consideration the candidate's bowl performance.

Along with Young, other finalists were USC's Matt Leinart, last year's winner of the inaugural award; Drew Olson of UCLA; Brady Quinn of Notre Dame; and D.J. Shockley of Georgia.

Young passed for 267 yards and ran for another 200 in the Longhorns' victory over USC. For the year, he completed 212-of-325 passes for 3,036 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 1,050 yards.

"For the second year in a row we have had an outstanding winner," said Archie Manning. "Vince had a great year at the University of Texas and capped it off with one of the most spectacular bowl games in history. We are proud that he will represent this award."

The Manning Award was created in 2005 in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning and is presented annually following the holiday bowl season.

The winner is selected by a panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings. It is announced by the Sugar Bowl Committee.

Nuff Said - VY #1 Draft pick by the HOUSTON TEXANS:ok:

I think it's hilarious that an award named the "Manning" award should take into consideration Bowl performances ;)

Leinart won it last year. Why shouldn't we pick him?

Because Leinart has more college creds than VY? Heck, I don't know; I get lost in all the VY hype.
