In response to the shocking news that Florida coach Urban Meyer will be resigning as the team's head coach for health reasons, an NFL source tells us that Meyer has informed the team that he has a heart problem.
Making the development even more surprising is the fact that Meyer is only 45, and by all appearances he is in good health.
Yep. Something about a broken heart after Tebow leaves.
OUT: Urban Meyer. Resigned Dec. 26 after going 56-10 in five seasons.
POSSIBLE CANDIDATES: Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, TCU coach Gary Patterson, Boise State coach Chris Petersen, former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, Louisville coach Charlie Strong, Houston coach Kevin Sumlin, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham
Id love to see Boise State coach Chris Petersen get it. Seems like a great guy and has been nearly flawless at Boise.
Id like to see his offense with those super athletes in Florida.
pretty crazy situation.
also, this is easily the most coveted open coaching position in sports right now.
Florida coach Urban Meyer, who announced Saturday night that he would step down after coaching the Gators against Cincinnati in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, is now having second thoughts about retirement, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Sunday
Meyer rethinking retirement.

He must be hanging out with Brett Favre.
NEW ORLEANS (AP)-Less than 24 hours after he resigned, Florida coach Urban Meyer is instead taking an indefinite leave of absence that opens the door for his return to the Gators.
Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will run the team during Meyer’s absence.
Meyer said at a news conference Sunday that he was offered and encouraged to take a leave of absence earlier in the week. He said being with his players at a “spirited practice” Sunday morning persuaded him not to resign.
All that drama for a leave of absence? The sports stations acted like his heart could give out at any moment with a massive heart attack because of all the stress.
A big WHATEVER to this story.
I dunno....I bet that just like a smoker, alcoholic, etc... he knows the stress will kill him, but can't walk away. It takes a really driven person to succeed in big time coaching.....and a little thing like "might kill you" ain't gonna make that drive go away.
Prepare for more waffling in the months ahead.

The guy's future health could be at risk. You would think people wouldn't be so judgemental about him not knowing exactly how to handle it. Apparently not...
guy I was talking today was talking about this saga.. and he heard that that a lot of Florida recruits were going to back out on commitments if Myers left and hence his decision to go ahead and stay
It's just all the silly drama to me..the guy is a major drama king.
I mean my way of thinking is the guy is bound to have the best medical care available in the world to him..ok he has had heart problems..he comes out one day and say he's retiring.
Then the next day it's wait..I'm better..I'm just taking a leave of absence.
He's a young man. Certainly the hope is he does what is best for his long term health and all that that but still...it's all SO dramatic on his part.
I certainly wish him well but he's definitely got a terminal case of "LOOK AT ME" disease.
I'm studying to become a football coach and I can't even begin to tell you the amount of stress that guys like Meyer go through on a daily basis. I have many contacts in the coaching business (as that is the only way you can get hired anywhere) and they would all tell you the same thing.
It takes an incredible amount of passion to be able to get up every day knowing that you have an 18 hour day ahead of you. There is no offseason for college coaches. There is no time off. If you don't absolutely love your job you will not last.
Taking that into consideration, I can see how Meyer doesn't know how to proceed regarding his situation. On one hand, he loves his job. The very last thing in the world that he wants to do is quit coaching. On the other hand, stress is a primary risk factor for cardiovascular heart disease. And if he keeps it up he is going to die.
Let yourselves be presented with a situation like that and then tell me that you would know exactly how to handle it.
