Upon Further Speculation

After all the discussions we have been having about our possible offseason draft picks, it occurred to me that I have not seen much discussion/predictions of what this team might do if we end up with the #2 overall pick.

This seems like a very likely scenario to me, I think there is a high probability that San Francisco could end up with the hypothetical #1 pick and choose Reggie Bush (assuming he enters the draft). Which would be a really good pick for their team, given their young QB in Alex Smith and there current "rebuilding phase". There has also been some speculation that Bush would like to remain in CALI.

If this were to happen, who do you think we should take if we were to finish with the #2 overall pick? Do we deal away Leinart for a couple more picks during draft day, which I have heard from ESPN among others that he will most likely go number 2? Or do we pick up Leinart and give Carr some competition? And if for some reason that doesn't work out, we deal him away for some quality players and maybe a future pick or two to a team that is hurting in the QB department?

And if not Leinart at #2, then who?

Personally, I think with Carr's bonus situation and the pending coaching changes that we could turn the second pick into a prosperous situation with some good bargaining power and trade down to get a couple extra draft picks.

Obviously, this is all guess work, but what do you think?

Well I personally am not sold on Dbrick.. at least not to the point where I feel he is head and shoulders above other prospects like McNeil, Winston, Scott..etc..etc. Dbrick may be the best of the bunch.. but not by enough that I think we should take him instead of trading down.

I think we should trade down with someone who wants Lienart, get a couple more picks.. and grab one of the other 1st round OTs.

This is more of a draft forum question, but it will be moved soon. Hardcore I would figure we still trade down and pick up extra picks. Winston, mario Williams, Mathias, A.J., Greenway and a host of others are looking like solid picks throughout the lower part of the top 10-15. Just depends on the coaching staff in place and what is offered to us.

Grid the more I look at film of McNeil and Winston the more I like both of them. McNeil I dont think would be an overly solid LT, but could be a monster RT in the NFL. Scott has talent, but he dissapears sometimes, I watched the guys from TAMU use him a little and Colorado got some pressure from his side. I dont doubt his talent just his drive and that nasty streak I like in my linemen.

Trade in the Leinart cash cow. I can tell you this - whenever guys like Alex Smith are taken #1...people want QB's.

His stock will slip and thenb rise again right before the draft starts. Leinart WILL go #2....no doubt. Let the Jets offer #1/Abraham and the Titans offer #1/LaBoy/Troupe...

trading down would be fun assuming we lose out on Reg...

I'm gonna really be PO'd if we actually wind up taking Leinhart. With this group of supporting cast, Leinhart would not improve this team at all, even though he's probably better than Carr. I'd love to trade down and I can probably accept taking Bush, but Leinhart is a major waste for us and a major improvement for other teams who would pay us like crazy for him.

I like this idea. Especially if we get the no. 1 pick, we'll have a lot of leverage in this current Bush frenzy. A pick like Mario Williams wouldn't upset me. Use the additional picks for getting some linemen and other needed positions.

With a new coaching staff *cough*WadePhillips*cough*, it could be magic. :)
