Upgrade at Punter?

I know I'll probably get flamed by PD for saying this, but do you think its time to upgrade Stanley? He's been very consistent for us, but here's a look at his stats thus far:

Avg Yards - 43.1 - #25
% in 20 - 29.4 - #20
Net - 39.6 - #16

On a team where field position is so important, having a punter with a little more power might be a good thing. Stanley has the accuracy, but lacks the power.

Here are his 2005 stats:
Avg Yards - 38.8 - #31
% in 20 - 37% - #6
Net - 36.0 - #36
I can understand the low yardage given how many were in the 20


PS: Yes I realize we have about 100 more pressing holes on this tema, but I'm just bringing this up for conversation...
 
I've never really liked Stanley's boot ... during camp they brought some kid in (don't remember his name) who was outdistancing Stanley by about 10 yards per with good hang time as well ... he probably wasn't as accurate but even still, not sure why he didn't end up making the cut, other than that I've heard Marciano is really defensive of both Brown and Stanley. He's relatively accurate but I think we could do better.

As you say however, he's at least plenty functional.
 
There are guys who can punt farther, but in the NFL hang time is much more important. Yesterday, Wes Welker had to fair catch several times which prevents any runback. And he is one of the better punt return guys in the NFL. And those fair catches were huge regarding field position. Stanley rarely shanks a punt either so until he screws up consistently, I would rather go with him.:yikes:
 
Actually, I've 'knocked' Stanley in the past for his distance issues, but he has shown 'marked' improvement in this area this year--given his 'hang time' and accuracy dropping punts inside the 20, Stanley, IMO, is not a problem.

Heck, even Brown is getting his KO's deeper...maybe improving his accuracy is next, but it's obvious someone 'talked' to both of them...
 
there was a 71 yard punt in some game i was watching yesterday- probably SD v Ravens- we should bring in that guy LOL

Does anyone remember the fake field goal either last year or the year before where Stanley took it up the middle and juked the Hell out of one of the Jaguars' linebackers and got us the first down?

Greatest play that I have ever seen. Stanley is God.
 
I heard Stanley is the only guy that has a recliner in the locker room. I also heard he has a secretary and is allowed to smoke cigars in the shower.
 
I'm pretty sure Kris Brown can kick the ball farther backwards than Chad Stanley's greatest punt ever, and that hit the ozone layer.

Maybe I got into this thread a little late but since when did Chad Stanley kick field goals? The fake was by K. Brown for the first down that was reviewed and up held!!!

Why would you ever want a kicker who kicks the ball backwards? No wonder we lose all the time. Chad kicks all of his punts forward. The correct direction.

New named punter Kris Brown had this to say, "Look, I kick field goals with ease. Punting can't be much harder. You want me to punt a ball over that mountain?" Chad Stanley was last seen being consoled by life partner PowerfulDragon and hoped to catch on somewhere in the CFL.

I saw the picture and thought that's what it was before I read it underneath. That's priceless and if nothing else it'll be the main reason why he stays on the team. Anyone who can throw one of them deserves mad props. :ok:

When I watch him, I think he needs to get better at the long booming punts, but when I check his stats, he's okay. He gets 'em inside the 20, and rarely has a touchback. He ain't Lechler, but who is?

Wow whoever says no is retarded....Yes get rid of him he is terrible and cant kick it more then 35 yards consistantly.
 
Chad Stanley sucks and the Punter position is in need of a big upgrade. I am sure it won't be hard to find a better punter. The Texans could probably upgrade by going to Memorial Park's soccer fields and find some shirtless immigrant with a good leg who is looking for a 'yob'. They could probably save a little salary cap space in the meantime with the going rate for migrant workers. Seriously though, the love affair with Chad must end and everyone must come to the realization that he is a total scrub.

Our biggest concern is our coaching staff (or lack thereof). Let's hope they are putting "playbook" and "defensive clues" on their Christmas list, and maybe Santa will be good to us.
