Why don't you just print the entire 1st round list of QBs over the past dozen years? It would make as much sense. And are you suggesting that Stafford and Ryan shouldn't have been top 10 picks? BTW, Tannehill is also beginning to play up to his draft position.
The point is just because you're not picking in the top ten doesn't mean a "top" QB won't be available. It depends on how many teams are looking for a QB & how many are available... among other things. & though Stafford & Tannehill were top 10 picks, they are proof that a top 10 QB doesn't guarantee a winning record, even two-three years removed.
Had Roethlisberger and Flacco gone to major football factories, their draft position would have been enhanced. Aaron Rodgers was considered by the Niners for the 1st overall pick. And he slid to #24. I've never heard a good explanation as to why. Jason Campbell (selected with the next pick), is more typical of the QB selected there.
So there will be good QB prospects available outside the top 10 picks?
The 2014 draft is too early to judge. And there wasn't a top prospect in 2013. But over the previous 5 drafts, you can make the strong case that the best QB was the one drafted first. To expect the 2015 draft to be different isn't logical.
I think the past 5 drafts muddles that statement moreso than the previous drafts.... 2014, like you said is too early to tell. But I'm on record saying Aj McCarron was the best QB in the draft & he was the 9th QB taken. Still in their short time, Zach Mettenberger appears to have been the most ready, possibly the best QB of that draft so far.
2013, Ryan Nassib may have been the best QB drafted..... still, too early to tell.
2012, I think it's hands down Russell Wilson, but my irrational hate for the Indianapolis Colts may have adversely colored that opinion.
2011, Andy Dalton was the 5th QB taken. Sure Cam Newton is more exciting to watch, & among my favorite players in the league, but I believe the general consensus is that Dalton is a better QB.
2010, Sam Bradford is most definitely the best QB in that draft & he was in fact the first QB taken.
2009, Yeah, Matt Stafford...... easy.
We're living in a time where Cam Newton's, RGIII's, & Colin Kaepernicks are being drafted way before they should. I doubt the best QB in the 2015 draft will be the first taken.
