Just felt like venting on some of these guys. Most people know about T.O. and Javon Walker. Both have the imfamous Drew Rosenhaus as their agent.

Just to spread a little knowledge around, here are Javons figures.

1. Javon Walker, WR: Five years with an option for a sixth that in all probability will be exercised by the Packers. Call it Six years, $7.485 million.
Signing bonus: $3 million.
Option bonus in 2003: $1.3 million.
$545,000 in '02
$300,000 in '03
$390,000 in '04
$515,000 in '05
$650,000 in '06
$785,000 in '07
===========================================

So this guy thinks that he can get the pack to give him more money than they have to, just because he is unhappy with the price he agreed on? He signed on the dotted line right? I mean, he has a 1300 yard season, and all of the sudden he is due more money? Does he really think the packers got THEIR value with his 23 catch 319 yard season? Does he think that deserved a 3 mill signing bonus, and $545,000?

It really makes me sick how these players wont work for their payday. They sign a contract, and then want more. Thats why you really have to appreciate the players like Domanick Davis, and Ed Reed, especially.

Yes just one thought. And I am not trying to be rude but if you don't like it, don't support it. There are several things I don't like in pro sports, period. If it isn't Javon Walker it will be someone else. You can count on it. That's the way the NFL works. Both sides (players v owners) are out for themselves. I understand what you are saying, I really do. But the situation is what it is. We (meaning the fans) can stop it by not supporting it.
 
Well I can't say i agree or disagree with them. When we do good at work and stuff we want raises. So they do good and they want raises. Contracts mean nothing these days, team's dont honor them and neither do the players. Terrell Owens is easily a top 2 or 3 reciever, but gets paid top 7 or 8 reciever money.
 
Sure players are over paid but i see nothing wrong for wanting to get paid more or market value whatever that is. even with a contract having a contract has never stopped and owner from cutting a player or asking a player to take a paycut.
 
Holdouts are apart of the NFL, and the bargining agreement agreed on by the union and the owners.

If you don't like it, don't watch the NFL.

Brett Favre has some nerve to tell Javon Walker what he should be doing with his career. Really easy to preach about contracts when you make 10 million a year , Right Brett? How bout you take a pay cut so your team can afford to get defense.

Whooooa, that isn't likely to happen...ever.
 
If owners won't honor the DOTTED LINE then i dont expect players too as well. I'm tired of folks giving the players grief about trying to get as much money as they can when they can look up at any point and be out here working pick up on aisle 9. I'd be trying to get EVERY penny i could up front.
 
Wish the Texans could find a way to get Walker here that would make for a dangerous quartet for Carr to choose from. :fishing:

Do you understand what a signing bonus is? Do you realize that they are not paying him a 3 million signing bonus to sign a 3 year contract. They gave him a 3 mill bonus to sign a 6 year deal.

Think about that for a minute, before you start calling the owners out.

Im sure Javon had no problem signing that deal, when he was getting 3 mill cash straight up. Now he thinks they should take money out of their pocket, and give him a new 6 year deal with another bonus, so he can renig in 3 years again?

Give me a break.
 
I've been trying to decide how I feel about the Walker mess. I still have mixed feelings.

For starters, the player will almost assuredly get cut if he drastically underachieves, therefore losing a lot of money, so why can't the player that drastically overachieves work on the same playing field and get paid for doing so...it seems more like a job per job basis to me.

On the other hand, the owners are signing a contract for a product, that product being a player’s performance. If the player does not live up to his contract, then the owner may look elsewhere, but if the player over achieves on his contract, that is his choice. The player should know that he will be rewarded upon the completion of his contract with a bigger contract.

I think I like agree more with my second perspective because it emulates the real world more. It is sort of like signing contracts while building a house. If the guy providing the product does not actually provide it, then he is in essence breaching his contract...I think. Where as if he installs a 16 jet Jacuzzi in stead of a walk in shower, that is his choice, and the owner of the house is not obligated to pay him more for installing the better fixture. Down the line though, the builder may be able to get better contracts from house owners because of the way he does business.

they both threatened to hold out, says many websites; reed also started a feud with ray lewis, but of course, no one wants ray lewis mad at them, so he has probably reconciled.
 
Ed Reed never threatened to hold out and never had a grudge with Ray Lewis. There was a rumor on PFT (yea, real credible source) about it but that was it. I believe Ray and Ed even live together.

I agree with the whole "if the owners will not honor the contract, then why should the player" thing. I understand that signing bonuses are a part of the contract and some holdouts (Grady Jackson comes to mind) are meritless because of that, but it's not my business. If he, Javon or anyone else can get an extra dollar who am I to judge.

Don't give me this crap about guys getting paid millions to play a sport they love, when owners are worth billions (in some cases) and own these teams as an extreme hobby. The way the NFL is set up there is a fairly finite size of the pie to be distributed and I'm not going to get upset at player or owners looking for a bigger piece when I (and I think many others) would do the same thing.

If the Packers pay Javon, so what? If he holds out, so what? How were you effected? Unless you are a Packer fan it really doesn't effect you at all, and even if you are a Packer fan it affects the team and player much more than it does you.

Remember this is a business first. As fans some of us would like to believe in some utilitarian view of our beloved team, but that's not reality. Everyone - EVERYONE - is in it for themselves. Some players are more interested in money, and some are more interested in winning, either way they are doing what they want to do. It's just that when they are more interested in winning and are on your team, your goals line up and eveything's great. But let's be clear, everyone is in it for themselves.

All the guy has to do is play one or two years max, and he WILL get a new contract. A big one. One that sets him for life. Hes had one, i repeat, one thousand yard season. Yes, there is a small, small chance he could get a carrer ending injury. But how often does that happen???

Play another year, rack up another 1,000 yards, and you will get your huge contract that will set you up for life, without being a *****, and getting Drew Rosenhaus.
 
But while waiting for the bigger contract, he can be cut, or suffer career ending injury. Its a business and in business money matters. I don't care if its Football or just a game. Football is a business. Business is about money. Owners want pay less. Players want to make more. It's all in a business.
 
Hello all this is my first post.

Terrell Owens is easily a top 2 or 3 reciever, but gets paid top 7 or 8 reciever money.

The only people who make more are Moss and Harrison. He is paid as a top 2-3 reciever. And one more thing, if he cant feed his kids off 9+million they need to go on a diet.
