While I wanted to make a playoff run this year (still an outside shot) the team is still a year or two away(I've watched every game). We still don't have a dominant nose tackle or pass rusher. We have to blitz to get pressure on the QB leaving the secondary exposed and we don't stop the run all that well. There are also still holes on the o-line and Carr/Johnson need another reciever to take the double teams away from Johnson ex. (Manning/ Harrison have Wayne and Stokely). Bradford doesn't get the ball and is getting old and Gaffney and Armstrong are solid possesion receivers, but they're not big play threats. The coaches also need to open up the playbook, they're very predictable especially in the redzone. When Carr throws the ball they usually win and it opens up the run. At the end of games Capers plays not to lose and its cost the team a couple games. Our passing attack can open up our running game. I try not to get down on coaches, but if Capers doesn't loosen the reigns he or Palmer has to go. Another good draft or two should put us in position to be a playoff team every year and we usually draft well. Go Texans
 
I disagree with you on a couple of things but yeah, we are still a year or two away from being a legitimate playoff team with a real shot at winning it.

I believe we do have a dominant nose tackle in Payne. He's looking more and more like his old dominant self every week and the lack of a pass rush I attribute to other things. Walker slowing down, Smith in his first year of "The 3-4 Experience", and of course Jason Babin not yet being a hundred percent good to go as an NFL linebacker. I think that next season things will continue to improve for the Texans on defense as Payne gets farther away from his knee injury and Babin makes the adjustment. Another linebacker to replace Foreman is a must. Whether it comes from someone we already have (ala Peek replaces Wong who replaces Foreman) or from the draft we need another linebacker. Robinson and Earl need experience mostly.

On offense we're going to get better. It's taken a long time and continues to take a long time but we're going to get better. These linemen aren't going to get displaced next season I don't believe. Wand is still in there and learning and so is Pitts, McKinney, Wade and Weigert are free agents the Texans went out and got. They aren't castoffs from other teams. They were chosen by this organization for a reason and they'll get in sync and start producing. The rest will follow when the blocking gets consistently good. Another RB is probably in the cards to put the cherry on top of this thing but other than that it's all about the line.

They need time. It's hard and I hate watching them lose too but they mostly just need time. We need to give it to them.
 
I agree with you on some of your points. Maybe it's the line adjusting to the new zone blocking scheme and that goes back to your point of time they just need time. Good point. And Wade and McKinney are very good. I wasn't sold last year and I am still not on D Davis I think he is good, but not a game breaker, we good use a game breaker. I still believe we could utialize Carr and Co. more, but we don't know what goes on at practice, but he has looked pretty darn good this year when things have been opened up. I haven't given up on these guys and I won't it's just hard to watch them grow sometimes but the teams they've lost to are something like 39-25 combined and we've played a lot of them tough we've shown very positive signs of growth this year and I'm looking forward to the years to come this is a great organization.
 
Didnt Wong leave Minnesota in the expansion draft because they wanted to play him at ILB and he wanted to be OLB?

if thats the case.. we may find that he isnt that receptive to a change.. and he may leave when his contract is up.

Wong signed with the Texans as an UFA as Vinny said. I would add that Wong was a DE at Standford and moved to MLB with the Vikings. I believe it was widely reported at the time of his signing with the Texans that he received interest from 2 teams, the Texans and the Bills. The difference is that the Bills wanted him to play inside, as I recall.
 
Looking ahead to the offseason, we don't have many holes to plug. I would assume we'll spend a draft pick on a RB and probably an interior DL. Other than that, we really don't need much. I guess it would be good it draft ILB. Other than that, though, we'd just be upgrading depth and creating competition. It seems to me that the talent is in place and next year is a huge year to see if the coaching staff can bring it together.
 
I think we need a proven playmaker on defense.

Babin looks like he is going to need a couple years. Yah he has been great.. and I think with an offseason under his belt he could be one of the better OLBs in the league.

Robinson has been looking good too.. but the learning curve for NFL CBs is pretty high and if he has it in him to be a shutdown corner.. it probably wont show for a couple more seasons.

We need someone else.. someone who can come in and make an immediate impact.. a star player. Sharper is great.. but after seeing him this year I think he is just a "solid" kind of great.. not a Ray Lewis kind of great. He is probably our best player on defense.. but he isnt a threat on every down.. offenses do not have to scheme around him.

This post is just a long way of saying "lets get Derrick Johnson!" :)
 
The biggest thing keeping Robinson from being a "shut down corner" (I'm getting to hate that term) is about 2 seconds worth of pass rush on a consistent basis. If the Texans were able to put some real pressure on the quarterback all of the time then Dunta would be the monster CB of the draft and be getting way more attention that he does at the moment. He'd still have his rookie moments but he'd look about a million times better than he does now. All of them in the secondary would. You wouldn't be hearing any of that "Glenn's lost a step but he's still good" stuff either. Glenn would be the "Ageless Wonder" playing as good now as he ever did.

i disagree with you, i dont think they will use a pick on a running back, cause the coaches still feel they have something special in D.D (and so di i). And also we need to think about drafting some D-Line men, Walker, and payne are getting up there in age, Smith is still young only playing 5 years. And prolly an O-line men if they feel any need for change up front !

I think he has already shown that he has the ability to be a "shutdown" corner. I'm like Hervoyel, I hate that term. Ask Champ Bailey what he thinks about it.
 
I think we need a DE. I would love to get Derrick Johnson but that may be too many outside LBs. I was thinking this last game may have proven Foreman is no longer a necessity as Polk filled in if not better just as good as Foremen.

Coaches sound like they aren't ready to draft a running back. I was wondering if Joey Porter would be someone we would like to get as FA. On Sunday I was just imagining having a running back like Blaylock from the Chiefs on our team.
 
ok we dont need a running back,,,,anyone can step in for the chiefs and look good as a running back because they have such an dominating O-Line if our line can stay consistent like they did last game, than Davis will be a very good running back !!! A running back is only as good as the people blocking for him. If blaylock was to come here and our o-line was the same he'd have no success either ! Davis will be here next year, lets just hope the line gives him a little help !
 
Watching GB last night it was obvious they have built a dominating offensive line and it really didn't seem to matter who was running the ball because they had huge holes and Favre wasn't hurried either.

I think the Texans could use a better DL so I would look there first. I'm guessing they are trying to build their OL now with the guys they picked up for this season so I think with some work they can be better.

I'd try to get a better every down RB. The guys they have now are injury prone. Somebody made a joke on the radio the other day that if Davis gets a hangnail he misses games.

Maybe Spears from LSU will be a good 1st round choice.
 
The Chronicle recently reported Davis needs 70 yds avg next 5 games to have a 1,000 yd season. What team has a back that rushes for 1k 2 consecutive years and is in 2nd year and fans clamor for a replacement? Must be us. How many other productive rushers are a threat as a receiver? What guarantees are there that Bensen could get 1k in NFL even if Texans had a shot at him after the 15th pick where we will prob draft?

I want to see how Wells does next 5 games. We just might be sitting better in backfield than some think. As I've said before, I would like a big ol' 260 lb ox that could ram 4 yds on third and short. Even if he carries only 5 times a game. Theoretically, a full back should fill that roll who could also block for the half back.

Our most pressing need by far as many of you have said is the defensive line. Unless a starter goes down elsewhere. A solid horse of a tackle would solidify line and the next picks in 2nd, 2 in 3rd and the fourth round should be excellent depth as Capers decides.
 
I agree you guys have a great franchise QB.. I think it will come as soon as next year if your team plays the free agency right
 
I'd like to see the Texans pick up a defensive lineman for the first pick. I believe they are ranked the 29th defense. They are ranked so low for some reason so that needs improvement. And I understand there are some pretty good defensive players available in the draft.

I would love to see a back here like Benson. I like his running style. He will be gone though I think before the Texans pick.

the last true shutdown corner was deon sanders. it will probaly be awhile till there is another one. there may never be another one. the recievers are to good now. is there any corner in the league that you could just put on aj, not give him safty help, and not worry about aj for the rest of the game?
