Trying to find 2nd, 3rd, 4th RD gems

The Preacher

Waterboy
I just wanted to run my observations so far in hopes of finding some underrated players. Hopefully this won't be too long winded.

The 2005 draft has two good examples to start with. Lofa Tatupu and Odell Thurman. Both look to be stars and had two things in common. They both played for solid defenses on teams with players more hyped than themselves. Brandon Jones fits into this category too. Odell had personality issues that may have caused his drop and Tatupu was a "reach" at the time according to many.

It seems highly likely we will take Bush or trade for picks and grab an o-lineman early. Hopefully this will be the first of several years where we draft high quality 2nd and 3rd rounders so for the sake of this dialogue I will focus on who we may take at #33, #65, and #66. Deep sleepers are another topic. I will focus on defense and just say I would be all for Gilles or another o-lineman at #33 if we take Reggie.

Teams with solid defenses under the radar due to weak offenses, poor bowl performance, or simply have several star players.

1) Miami-Roger McIntosh, Orien Harris
2) Texas-Michael Huff, Rodrique Wright
3) LSU-Kyle Williams, Laron Landry
4) Tennessee-Parys Haralson, Jason Allen, Jesse Mahelona, Kevin Simon
5) Alabama-Demeco Ryans, Charlie Peprah, Freddie Roach
6) Georgia-Greg Blue, Demarrio Minter

This is a short list of a quickly generated group of players that either don't stick out because of all the quality around them or in some cases like my vols just had a dismal season. Obviously some are better than others but all have a lot of potential and a greater possibilty of sliding. I'm sure I missed several from these teams and others so feel free to throw some more names in if they fit the mold. This draft seems deep so it's possible to find high quality in the 4th or possibly even later.

there are a lot of guys that could possibly turn into steals. a few guys that we should look at should be a couple of fsu guys in ernie sims and antonio chromartie. not sure what will happen to sims because he is undersized but the guy can run and hit but with a deep lb class could fall. if we change defenses i would like to take a look at him. chromartie is an interesting player and i think will be a get player if he can recover from a knee injury. he tore his acl about a month before the season so he didn't play this year, but he was the number one db in the nation coming out and some sites had him as the number two player in the country behind ernie. last year he made first team all-acc and lead the noles in ints even though he was the nickle back. he didn't keep up with his grades and that is why he is leaving early. i'm not sure how the rehab is going so what he will be able to do in workouts is up in the air. i think a guy his size (6'3" 215) would be a great match with dunta, plus he was a speedster before the injury. if they fall they would be great playmakers to add to our defense.

Sims will end up like another LB of his talent level Michael Boulware playing saftety for a team in the NFL. Yesterday on NFL Network Mike Mayock said Sims is just not that good of a player and should last till the 4th round. By the way still loving your avatar. Tell me our LORD GOD is not a man when you see that.

i have thought about that to but i think that i would like sims around the line more, he is always around the ball. i don't think he would play well in deep coverage. he blows a lot of coverage. when you look at fsu players the last couple of years it doesn't seem like they are developing like they should and i think sims will improve with nfl coaching. it wouldn't suprise me if someone tries to make him into a safety though.

Well Michael was not overly good in coverage and with training he has become a force back there, and they play him alot like Rodney Harrison which is just an extra LB that drops back into zone or shades on the TE. Sims will make a solid SS in the NFL and if someone gets him in the 4th round he will be a steal, because in a year or two the kid will be a terror back there.

After his most recent performances I would not take Greg Blue at all. He got burned on 4th and 10 and cost us the Auburn game in the final minute. He is poor in coverage, his tackling is light years behind a player like T. Davis, he takes pathetic angles (West Virginia game), and is nowhere near as fast as T. Davis. Blue is in my doghouse and I would not be surprised if he was this years Shazor.

I'm with you, I don't know if he will fall like that, but I have ALWAYS like other safties better. I'm still trying to properly gauge Slay, Threat, Simpson, Huff, Bing, and Landry.

I have all of those guys ahead of Blue.

yeah blue has been some what of a disappointment this year. i don't really remember him doing any thing against lsu and that angle he took in the sugar was terrible. i don't know if i would put threat ahead of him though, he doesn't even play anymore.

i guess with ernie i question his discipline, he is always looking to take off someone's head i think his instincts would prevent him from staying in his zone.

Tcanes what are you doing with pics of my girlfriend and her girlfriend...j/k

Do ya'll think Paul Pazlowski (or whatever his last name is) LB Penn State will slip or even come out now that he was hurt?
