Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Oregon State LB Trent Bray measured a height of 6-0 3/8 and a weight of 227 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.90 seconds and 4.88 seconds. He ran the short shuttle in 4.36 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.69 seconds.

The Oregonian reports Oregon State LB Trent Bray has been invited to the NFL combine Feb. 22-28 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
 
Seems like a D Ryan type. All around athlete....baseball, basketball, football..............started at TE, then at LB with impressive performance:

There is a lot going on at middle linebacker; Trent has the ability to sort it all out and react quickly and make a ton of plays. We talk about playmakers on offense, but it’s the same thing on defense and Trent certainly fits in that category."

It seems that the knock on him is that he does not have "speed." This profile contradicts his "athleticism" and gives concern to his size:

SUMMARY
Bray is the classic very productive college middle linebacker who lacks the athleticism and speed to be as productive in the NFL. He is shorter than ideal at barely over 6-foot, and under-sized at barely over 230 pounds, so if a blocker can get a good hold of him he struggles to shed and make plays. He lacks the desired quick burst and playing speed, but he gets started to the ball faster than you expect because his instincts help him to consistently read and react to the play fast. While he lacks explosiveness, once he gets to full speed he has decent speed chasing in pursuit and if he has a clear path to the ball, he can make plays. He is a limited athlete who is tight in the hips which hinders his ability to adjust and play well out in space -- he can't change directions quickly and ends up lunging and diving to make tackles. He lacks the quick feet, playing speed and closing burst to be affective in coverage. He is going to struggle to be more than a backup two-down middle linebacker, but with his smarts, toughness, instincts and competitiveness, he will be able to bounce around for a season or two if he can bulk up to 245 pounds.



STRONG POINTS
Bray is a very smart and instinctive linebacker who consistently reads and reacts to the play quickly -- he sniffs out the screen pass very quickly. He has quick hands and can jolt blockers to stay free and can make tackles on inside runs. He reads the inside run fast, fills quickly and can disrupt plays in the backfield even when he can't make tackle. When he has a clear path to the ball, he can chase down running backs in backside pursuit.



WEAKNESSES
Bray is a limited athlete when it comes to flexibility, burst and playing speed. He is an upright player who struggles to protect his legs from low stuff (blocks and traffic) and does not move through traffic well -- he does not make plays in pursuit when the path is not clear. Lacks the playing speed to stay wtih running backs and tight ends in man-to-man coverage -- he loses a step and lacks the burst to catch up. He is tight in the hips and struggles to change directions quickly and burst in the other direction -- this hinders his ability to consistently tackle well out in space.
 
Maybe Dom Capers recommended he be cut?? Man, we just got a steal. That means he must be a player!! :tease:
 
I don't know why people see him as a 3-4 middle? Size is needed, like Foreman and Sharper. The rb is going to find spots with only 3 down linemen. That was part of the problem with Polk and Greenwood playing the middle last year, neither one could plug anything up. Dat Wynn also had problems playing the middle for a 3-4.

If Cowart does get cut, then Bray could have a spot. But 2 rookies for the Mike spot, does not seem like a good thing. Asuming Evans plays backup Will and Polk plays backup Mike, Bray could be ps this year.

Ryans and Bray could be the future of the Mike for a long long time. R and B slamming down RBs for the next 10 years!!!!!

Neither Foreman (6' 1" 240 lbs) or Sharper (6' 3" 239 lbs) were big guys. Greemwood (6' 0" 238 lbs) and Polk (6' 2" 24 lbs) are effectively the same size. Size doesn't explain the difference in play performance between these guys.
