Training Camp Day 2

From my semi-untrained eye, he seems to have come a long way since his days as a DL.

Seeing as that was only two college seasons ago, it leads an optimist such as myself to think Spencer can climb the NFL learning curve very quickly. While I don't think he's an instant starter, I definitely see him as a heavy first year contributor, (expecially after the first injury). He could very well be a solid starter by year two and start approaching his ceiling by year three. While three years seems a long time, it isn't in terms of the development of a 3rd rounds tackle.

I certainly wouldn't call him a "disappointment" if he isn't an every down star in year one, as other players on both sides of the ball have been labeleld on this team. :)

What are there numbers? Lundy and Taylor? Didn't Lundy have the same Zone Blocking Scheme at Virginia?

Something else I think we all need to keep in mind with both Spencer and Winston is that both have only played their o-line positions for two years in college. IMO both have a large learning curve to overcome. Give them time and we will reap the rewards.

Think so? ... I think Taylor may well be in line for taking Morency's spot. Only seen one practice so far, so that may be a rash proclamation on my part, but I think he looked really good today ...

Taylor has impressed me since the start of OTAs.

I wrote this on June 8 :

For those looking for an early sleeper, look no further than Chris Taylor. The 6-0, 224-pound running back out of Indiana is taking full advantage of a nicked up running back corps and made several impressive runs during full-team drills. Taylor has good size and adequate speed and could be one of those guys who really benefits from the Texans’ new system.

But I'm just not ready to give him anyone's spot since I haven't even seen him in full pads/contact.

For the person asking about numbers, Lundy is 33 and Taylor is 27.

Got it A.J., thanks. I can't wait to see them with full pads on as well. I think our Running back core will be fine without the addition of anyone else. I like Morrency, but Taylor and Lundy are Bigger, faster backs and with Lundy coming from the zone blocking scheme, I think he as well as Taylor will only get better. Did Taylor run a low 4.43 at the Combine? I know Wali Lundy ran a 4.45.

I don't recall Taylor's combine numbers but I know his Pro Day 40 time was disappointing (for him ... relatively speaking) - up in the mid 4.5's on turf - when he had run in the 4.4's previously. Doesn't sound like much but I've been guessing that's why he wasn't drafted. He's not a breakaway threat but he's good for 20 yards and he has good hands. Not sure about his blocking ability.

Great posts you two. I'm not Sherman but....D is always ahead of the offense in the summer. Always. We're all jumpy about it because it is so critical for this team. What I saw friday was a unit moving in unison with very good feet for the first work out. Give it time. One group is wreaking havoc and letting slip the dogs of war. And the other is learning to move in concert with one another. Be patient. The o-line will catch up. Know one thing for sure. Weigert is gonna be a best this season leaning on that rook all summer. After Mario, everyone else should be banana pudding.

Look, I've been saying it for three seasons. DD's work load is too much. Cut the guys reps. We've got some kids on the roster. Let 'em have some carries the first of the year. Let them do their job. He's not Jim Brown. But he's a great back. Don't use him up the first twelve weeks. Let the kids have some touches.

In 4 seasons Lundy had 742 carries, 3193 rushing yards, and 43 rushing TD's. Chris Taylor had 402 rushes for 1762 yards and 12 TD's. EDIT: Sorry thought you were asking for stats lol, my bad.

You sure they're faster than Morency, cause Morency looks pretty damn fast. It's pretty disheartening to see him roll down the depth charts, cause he has great burst and excelleration from the time I saw him last year. He looked more physically capable than DD, though he didn't have the fluidity that DD has. At the time he was drafted, he really was a 3rd round steal for us IMO.

Yeah I just researched and he wasn't invited to the combine. Lundy was and actually had some inpressive numbers. Suprising if you look at them. Here is the site:

Take a look.

Thanks, stats will work as well. I think both guys will fit the system we have in place.

As far as I know I haven't seen the Texans depth chart so I'm not sure he has rolled down it yet.

I think Morency's problem is his dancing around instead of getting upfield. He needs to learn to make a cut and hit the hole, I remember several games where he either slipped or lost yardage by trying to dance around, I also though remember some good runs he made.

This is what I got on Wali Lundy at the combine:

Group: 3
40 yd time: 4.45 sec
Broad Jump: Didn't attempt
Vertical: 35"
3 Cone Drill: 6.99 sec
20 yd Shuttle: 4.36 sec
60 yd Shuttle: 11.27 sec

Just got back from the Dynamo game. You know, the other ''football''. Anyway, I was at practice this morning but most of what I saw has already been mentioned. Just a few notes:

Andre Johnson was absolutely on fire! He shook every CB, including D-Rob 3 straight times and caught every ball. AJ was in Pro Bowl form today.

I was a little disappointed with P-Buc. Not really with his play, but overall, between plays he just comes across as lazy to me. The horn blew, and the defense went from field 1 to field 2, Buchanon was the last one in the group, even behind Ro. Smith and the lineman.

Mario Williams is HUGE! I know the term is overused but he truly is a freak of nature.

Chris Taylor looked really good. He did jump out at me.

Dates: 03/21/06
Height: 5117
Weight: 212
40 Yrd Dash: 4.49
20 Yrd Dash:
10 Yrd Dash:
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 21
Vertical Jump: 37 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'3"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.37
3-Cone Drill: 6.54

IMO the addition of Moulds, Putzier, and an offense minded coach have probably boosted AJ's confidence. He is also probably playing with a something to prove attitude after our past failure and frustration with our poor performance and old coaching staff. All just my opinion though.
