Trading pick 2.01

Every year there are players that everyone thinks should have gone in the 1st round but for some unknown reason they don't. This year looks to be no different as there are several very good players that could be available to us at #33. Prospects like Kyle Van Noy, Stephon Tuitt, Jason Verrett, Marcus Roberson, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Calvin Pryor, Morgan Moses, etc... could all fall to us in the 2nd round. Should we take the best available player that fills a need OR because we have so many needs should we trade down in the 2nd and pick up an extra 3rd. I was thinking that maybe a team like San Francisco, who's very good and doesn't have alot of needs like the Texans, may want to trade up to #33 and pick a better quality player than will be available to them at #56 or #61. San Fran. has needs at CB, Safety, and WR. Any other 2nd round trade scenarios you can think of, as I think a 2nd round trade down is a very real possibility? If you were GM would you take a value pick that falls to you and fills 1 need, or do you trade down and get 2 good players that might not have 1st round talent?
 
49ers draft too far down in the 2nd to just get a late 3rd in return. I wouldn't trade down more than 10-12 picks.
 
It really depends on who is still left on the board. I wouldn't make that trade with SF unless they are also giving us a 1st or 2nd next year.
 
Personally, I think we should keep this pick. Unless, of course, someone's willing to give us a crazy amount of picks in return.

I don't think anyone would be willing, but I'd much rather trade the 1.1. I think I'd normally be giddy having this pick with the new CBA. There's just slim pickins for top 5 talent this year.

This draft is stacked behind the top 5-10 and the 2.1 is too important to trade

I'm pretty much in agreement with both of you.

SF is too far down , I'd have to get something more from a team more than a handful of picks down.

And it really does depend upon who is available , how many of those prospects you feel have 1st round talent are remaining and .... how far back you move with a given offer.
If there are 6 guys you feel have 1st round talent left and you are only moving 1-5 spots back , I take a 3rd as I'm still going to get one of those players.
If there are only 1-3 left and I'm being asked to move more than 1-3 spots .... Nope.
 
Definitely think we can and most likely should trade 2-1 as teams get itchy trigger fingers having to sit overnight with a coveted player still available and visions of other teams stealing him away from you.

I'd hold out for outsized compensation. I'm in the trade 1-1 camp, too.

Depends on who is there and who the pick at 1-1 is. If VanNoy or Moses are there then there is no way I'm trading down. Those guys are top 15-20 picks IMHO.

Yep, If I were to do a 2nd rd trade with SF this yr it would cost SF their 2nd/4th this yr and a 2015 1st since the 2015 pick will likely be a late 1st I doubt they would do that trade.

Say the Vikings want on of the top 3 QB's, would you trade 1-1 for 1-8, the Vikes 2nd/3rd rd picks and a 2015 1st.

I'd probably do this all day. You would hope one of the Qb's falls to you, probably not but that package would really set you up to fill all the other holes this year, and still have ammunition to get a guy next year. 1-8, 2-1, 2-8, 3-1, 3-8, could net you 4-5 starters, with the next year having two first rounds to move up and get your Qb, I don't know why Minn would do this, but it would put this franchise in a very good position in 2015/6. I'm saying this and I really like TB, but this would be too much to pass up.

That would be highway robbery and I'd do it in a heartbeat.
 
I am still looking at Cleveland & Vikings in second for trades as both could look there for a QB. In first, we get #4 and #26 and for #33 we get there second and at least one of their two thirds. Carlos Hyde (2) and Terrence West (3) really impress me.

I guess I worded it poorly. The trade with San Fran would be for both of their 2nd round picks, #56 and #61. I did the point total from the trade value chart and there's only about a 50 point difference in our favor. If needed we could throw in a late pick to balance the numbers. 2 late 2nd round picks instead of 1.

Yeah, I think that would be a good trade. 3 picks between 56 and 65 would be nice. I looked back through 6 drafts, and that trade would have paid off 5 times.
