Trade Wong for Pick?

Just a thought and what would Wong's value be. Hopefully we get either Edgerton Hartwell through FA or good MLB in the draft. Trading Wong would allow Peek and Babin to be on the field at the same time and since in the 3-4 the OLB is supposed to generate the pass rush it would be nice to see these two on the field at the same time. Our linebacking crew would look like this
Babin-Edge-sharper-peek pretty impressive. I like Wong, just brought this up to see others thoughts on this. Is Peek ready for every down? And we'd have to get a good MLB in the draft or sign Edge for this all to work out. Your thoughts?

You don't trade your starting veteran OLB for a prospect when you don't have depth at the position. Peek may never start. He still has to stop fighing people on every play and get his head in the game before he can get regular snaps.

I like Peek a lot, I think he brings a fire to the defense and is a play maker. Is he ready for every down I don't know. I do agree he should see a lot more playing time than he does. But why not just move Wong to ILB and play Peek at OLB? It would save us money. I do like Hartwell though, I would love to see him in a Texans jersey.

Peek has showed us that he can play.....when he's in there. And I don't mean because of coaches not willing to put him in. This is the 2nd year where he's given the starting spot and injures himself well enough to miss games. But we can always draft a rookie to groom there. We are going to draft another LB the 1st day and most likely it will be ILB. I'm inclined to think that one of the 4 LB will be gone this year. We still have Polk and Anderson, who have done ok.

Hartwell is another one of those guys who makes plays for his team but get's limited pubilicity because of the people around him (much like Sharper) with Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Peter Boulware, Ed Reed and Chris McCallister around him Edge Hartwell is not going to get a huge amount of limelight but no doubt he is a talent and would make an Awesome addidition to the LB core.

Pretaining to Peek, we is ready for every down I can bet on it. And about that fighting with people, in my opinion with a couple games of starting experience that's going to go away. He WILL grow out of that. He adds FIRE to the team that I love. We could trade Wong away for at late 2nd.

Do you know how beautiful that could be???

Wong isnt going to be traded so we can have Peek on the field, and be thin at the position.

I would like to see a new ILB come in through FA. Im a little uncertain about Foreman. We seemed to play better with him out of the game.

Coleman just signed an extension, so don't expect him to go anywhere. I'd rather let Aaron Glenn go another year at a starting spot and if we draft a CB let them start out in nickel packages while AG can still get it done.

Wong is getting paid too much to really go anywhere either. He has a steep Bonus cap casualty if we do let him go. So no, he's not going anywhere.

I don't think Wong is the problem in our defense. He has played very well for us and has made big plays throughout the season. I'd be more concerned with Foreman's situations. What do we do with him?

Foreman signed a 5 year 12.1 million dollar contract with a 2.2 million bonus. If his signing bonus was prorated equally (nobody really knows) he would have about $1.3 million left that would be a cap penalty if we let him go. If we let him go after June 1st, which is probably the most likely choice because this would give us a little time during minicamps to evaluate our position, we can divide that $1.3 million in to 2 years. So letting him after June 1 would be a 650k hit to us on the salary cap. That seems doable.

Foreman signed a 5 year ...
Good analysis. I agree that Foreman can be kept, or released as is appropriate based on the development of the roster, without financial concerns.

Get rid of Wong?!?! He loves Houston and the Texans. He's a really classy guy. He's is a mild mannered, lead by example family man (much like Carr, Kris Brown, etc., etc.). maybe I am tired, but he played decently this year. So unless you can show me some stats making him look really, really bad, you're crazy!

Can Peek cover well or is he just an exellent pass rusher, I think he can be an everydown player, but im sceptical about his coverage.

Hard to tell from the actual game time he got this season although he did pick one pass off and got very close to another. Just prior to or early in the season Fangio said something about Peek being the best of the LB's in coverage.

Then how come this guy is not playing on every 3rd down? It makes no sence to me. In my opinoin I thought he should have never drafted Babin. Not because he is not a great player, but I thought we had that need already filled when we drafted Peek to groom his rookie year and let him go in his 2nd year.

Wong is not going anywhere, but I still would love to see what he could do at ILB. Polk did a great job at ILB too while Foreman was out. I just don't see why they didn't try to Peek expirment in these last couple of weeks and move Wong to ILB and play Peek at OLB and see how it worked out. In my opinion those are the 4 best LB's we got, and you should play your 4 best on the feild.

I like Wong too and don't want to see him traded if you read my post carefully. It was just a thought I threw out there. I'm not sure Peek is ready for everydown but he gets after the QB and in our 3-4 the OLB main job is to rush the passer which isn't Wong's strength. Everyone wants Wong inside and I don't think he wants to go there. I really like the guy and he has been solid.

I agree w/ you on Babin I've grown to like him but question why we drafted him when we drafted Peek the year before and giving up all those picks in a deep draft when we had other needs. Bottomline I think Babin is going to be great for us. Wong isn't going anywhere but I'd like to see him move inside so we can have our 4 best linebackers on the field with our 2 best pass rushers being outside. That being said if we can get either Hartwell or a good MLB in the draft then I hope that they rotate Peek in more frequently w/ either Babin or Wong which would keep all 3 fresh and get Peek some more PT love the intensity he brings to the field. We also have to really upgrade our D-line so our LB can make plays. We're getting there.

not sure how beautiful that is. Payne has to get over the injury and that is if/when he gets resigned. Even resigned we still lack pressure from our front 3 so we can clear room for the LB's

Peek has yet to prove he is able to play all 4 downs. He has physical skills but may be lacking a bit upstairs. I have no problem with him sitting this year as he should be able to compete for a spot next season. Thing is, he's been handed the starting spot twice now and both times couldn't stay healthy. We draft LB's every year, you forget we drafted Anderson too.

Capers has a more emphasis on zone blitzes and zone coverages (our defense has more emphasis on zone coverage). Wong did an excellent job with coverage, way better than Peek probably was able to. Wong also had the best season of his career. He picked off 3 passes this year, he had 3 sacks (that sounds low for an OLB but again Capers has a heavy emphasis on zone coverage), and towards the end of the season Kailee Wong became one of the major reasons our defense started to look as if they got the hang of the defense.

Steve Foley played for us but he really couldn't excel at covering and was more of a blitzing OLB which is why he and Capers zone coverage philosophy never really worked.
I don't believe Kailee Wong is the problem here and I really don't think putting him in the middle is the answer but only because our OLB position gets thinner at depth. Putting Wong in the middle will allow us to put alot better covering LB than Foreman there and you could then draft an OLB but who is to say that guy is going to be any good and if you go FA, well there is a reason a guy is on the FA list and is only coming to be a back up.

However, drafting a MLB to groom or signing one to compete for Foremans spot could possibly bring the best out of Foreman or give us the MLB we have been looking for one way or the other and our OLB depth will be intact and the MLB position will now have more depth. Polk is good but still unproven.

Or you could get your pass rush by signing or drafting a good defensive lineman that can create enough havoc to help our secondary not have to run around all day on every pass play.

Well then even better for a covering OLB. I can really only remember a few of his sacks, particularly the one that shut the lights off in Reliant against SD.
