Trade with Lions?????

There is an article on NFL.com that says Clowney visited the Lions. The article is titled Jadeveon Clowney to visit with Detroit Lions. Can't do a link from phone will add later.

Anyway they suggest a pre draft trade of Suh. My question is if the Lions offered Suh and #10 for 1.1. Would you do it?

As much as I despise Suh's play leading to penalties and injuries, I would think seriously about that trade.

Suh + their #10? Nope, not enough. If the speculation about us getting 2 or 3 picks this year AND 1 or 2 picks in next year's draft are indeed probable, then that's the way I would trade.

Edit: Just read the other posts about Suh being due a new contract very soon. That just reinforces my "No vote".

I'm not opposed to trading down with the Lions but want no part of Suh in that trade.

That would be an expensive move for Detroit. I feel like we still could get a really good player at 10 so I would do it to.

Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
Anthony Barr LB UCLA
Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State

That list minus a couple of guys is what you would be choosing from. Possibly 1 or more of the big three QB's Could still be available. There's not anyone on that list that wouldn't play significant minutes.

You'd have to know Suh was onboard and willing to extend/restructure his contract. If he's a 1 year rental it's not a consideration. And what's left at #10? If you dont have a primo target that you love, well maybe you pass. One of the goals here should be to restock the pantry with a lot of quality young talent. Suh would be a massive cap hit. I'd favor 3 or 4 additional picks over Suh I think.

And finally, is Suh a Bob McNair kinda guy? I think we know.

if any trade eventuates it will be after the 3QB and clowney come to town this week. doing their last due diligence on the players.

but to answer the OP, i hate suh but his a beast and he would help this defence tremendously however that expiring contract what makes this a fairly strong no for me.

I agree with kiwi that if we did trade with the lions i dont want suh. would take a lot on their part to move up though

I would love to have Suh on the team, but the cap figures make it basically impossible. None of the players in this draft are anywhere near his talent level, but they will be a fifth of his cap level and not come with the baggage.

The Jags seem a more likely trade partner with their cap space. If the Texans take a QB and the Rams get an OT, that's the most likely tradeup point for Clowney.

This makes no sense on several levels, A/Can't afford him... B/last year of his contract... C/A new long term contract for Suh makes it near impossible to re-sign Watt... D/Not sure McNair wants that attitude in the locker room

Doesn't Suh have a cap hit of like $20 million this year? No way we can fit that into the cap.

$22 mil and the last year of his contract voids after the SB this season.

Square in the ain't going to happen bin.

But I'd kinda like for something more firm to come out that they were even considering it because it sure would put to rest the McNair will only tolerate squeaky clean players meme.

We could trade our 1.1 to Detroit for their 1.10 and Reggie Bush. We could finally take Reggie Bush with the 1st overall pick and make up for 2006.

I kid...I kid...:worldpeace:

As much as I'd like to see Jj Watt & Jd Clowney on the same team, I can't imagine there would be more than one team out there that would want to see Ndamaka Suh & JaDaveon Clowney on the same team.

If I'm the Lions, I'd love to have Clowney, but no way I'd want to give up Suh for him. That's like... swimming upstream, a lot of work to get nothing done.

No way this happens with the $$$$ that will be spent on Watt. When does the bank of AJ contract run out?

Fat chance that happens with McNair, unless BOB can talk him into change his philosophies. (Not gonna happen.)

Next year's first & second would have to be included (along with other picks from this year), or next year's first & 2016's
Everyone says we cannot get that kind of deal. Casserly recently said no one made offer to trade up the 2 prior years we had 1.1, maybe we should lower our sights or do we just use it on a player not rated a 1.1 pick.

We're talking about trading down 10 spots. If we can't get next years 1 & 2, or their next 2 first round picks, I'd just as soon use that 1st.

Okay this is the first NFL insider I've seen to put a value on moving up to #1,

Former Bucs GM Mark Dominik posed this as a starting point for Detroit to trade up from #10:

1-10th, 2-45th, 3-76th, and 2015 1st round pick.

Food for thought. :chef:

Seems about right although they would probably swap that 3rd to next year. Keep in mind that the Falcons gave up 5 picks to move up 21 spots a few years ago.

1st
2nd
4th
Next year 1st
Next year 4th

Detroit would be moving up 9 spots (higher in the draft) so they shouldn't be giving up quite as much.

Starting Point being the key two words, add 2016 1st rd pick and you're in the conversation. That said from the Texans perspective I would pass.

Absolutely do that deal ! We need lots of help and that's 3 of the first 76, could easily be 2 starters in there. And lots of guys clamoring for a prospect to play RT, we could get somebody like Zack Martin or maybe even Matthews with the tenth overall. And unlike the #1 overall, that's not at all too much to pay for the #2 OT. And I could live with the 2nd round pick in 2015.

I would hate it but I would have to do it to. Number 10, 2 seconds and two thirds. That gives us six picks in the top 101 picks in a very deep draft. We could fill more of our holes than Jenna Jameson on a three day weekend.

I would rather get 2014 1st & 2nd

2015 1st & 2nd.

Using the 2015 1st & 2nd to move up and pick Winston/Mariota.

I would rather have a first second and third this year and a first next year. This draft is really deep I want is many players in the top 100 as I can get. As far as Winston goes I wouldn't touch him. Have you read the latest article about him in the rape scandal? Some really telling stuff in that article.

I haven't

Can you find a link for me?

Sure

A month before the rape accusation became public, the university’s victim advocate learned that a second woman had sought counseling after a sexual encounter with Mr. Winston, according to the prosecutor’s office. The woman did not call it rape — she did not say “no.” But the encounter, not previously reported, “was of such a nature that she felt violated or felt that she needed to seek some type of counseling for her emotions about the experience,” according to Georgia Cappleman, the chief assistant state attorney, who said she had spoken with the advocate but not with the woman.

No thanks to Suh, all things considered.

However, Megatron is a different story. ;)

People said I was crazy when I suggested trading AJ for the first pick to draft him. I love AJ but I knew C Johnson was going to be special. He was the real once in a generation prospect.

I am still hoping Cleveland wants Manziel desperately. 1.1 and switch seconds for 4, 10 and their two thirds. Browns get #1 and # 33. Houston gets 4, 26, 35 + the thirds.

That's an interesting trade scenario, not sure I'd take it but it's interesting. I'd prefer to keep the #1 pick trade and the #33 pick trade as 2 separate trades though to get more value from #33. Maybe trade #1 to Cleveland for 4, 26, and 35; then trade #33 to San Francisco for 56, and 61. That gives us 5 picks in the 1st two rounds of the draft and I think both are realistic. Of course all of this depends on who's on the board and available when it's time to pick or trade.

hmmmm

1.)Cloeneyn Clowney DE South Carolina
35.)Lamarcus Joyner DB Florida State
65.)AJ McCarron QB Alabama

or

4.)Khalil Mack LB Buffalo
26.)Louis Nix DT Notre Dame (X)
35.)Lamarcus Joyner DB Florida State
65.)AJ McCarron QB Alabama
71.)Ju'waun James OT Tennessee
83.)Chris Borland LB Wisconsin

That's not really a hard choice.
