trade ups

Barring injuries, we are looking pretty good. I see no one after pick#20 I would trade up for and give up much. Anything in top 20 like T'eo, Keenan Allen or Hunter would cost too much. I don't see any current top 5 WRs (AJ, Walter, Martin, Jean and Posey) being cut or beat out. Terrence Williams and Robert Woods could beat out all but AJ but would cost something to trade up to get or could be at our pick.

With Cushing back, ILB is still a need but could be resolved with a third round.

Nose appears to be at least a couple available in second.

RB: no one is happy with Tate's lack of ability to get on field. Perhaps we can use a lower round to replace him or that could be Grimes ( I don't see Forsett in '13) but if a bigger back is available I'd be interested.

Picks for 2013 as I see it: 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 4, 5a, 5b, 6, 7. maybe another 5 or 6.

I think 3a, 4 and 5a gets a high second.

Tate if he comes back last 4-5 games + playoffs decent would attract a late 20s second round. Too many teams need young big, fast RB. I could see Texans keeping Tate for 2013 last year but doubt they want Foster to go thru another season with such a load.

1, 2a (3-4-5), 2b Tate (I'd throw in 6 or 7 if needed to go higher), 2c ours 3 (Mario-comp), 5 comp

Quality. I could easily see our first being a true best player available.

BPA is the way to go. I would like to see us drafting quality prospects that are able to help us in a few years. We should be able see more plays from our young promising WRs(Martin, Jean and, Posey) against Jags.

Maybe one of our compensatory pick guru's can give us a realistic assessment of what we can expect next year. I think Dutchrudder has done this once before but I can't find it right now. Comp. picks can't be traded but it does free us up to trade our regular picks and I agree we need to be doing some heavy trading up in 2013. We need quality over quantity. I think we could wind up with 3-4 2nd round picks if we can find trade partners, I make it sound so easy but I know that it's not, and this seems to be a talented draft where having multiple 2nd round picks would really set us up for years to come. We could fix 4-5 positions with high quality talent and depth. I hope Rick is on the phone with his fellow GM buddies setting up the foundations for draft day trades.

BB and others lets see a mini mock based on a 1st, three 2nd's, a 3rd, and a 5th. We may also have some 6th or 7th round comp. or regular picks as well.

From the 3 amigo's thread, this is my projection:

Note: All 4 listed were expiring contracts and signed above minimum deals with their new teams by June 1st.

Yes, we should get 4 compensatory picks:

Mario Williams - 3/4th
Mike Brisiel - 4/5th
Joel Dreesen - 5/6th
Jason Allen - 6/7th

The Texans signed zero qualifying free agents, so every loss should result in at least a 7th. Play time, games started and contract size figure into this equation, so those are just rough estimates.

I believe Lucky shares the same general idea of compensation as well. I haven't looked at their snap counts individually yet, but I may do that later and try to give a better projection. For now, I would go with 3, 5, 6 and a 7 to be safe for mocks.

That is a lots of picks! Since we wouldn't have many roster spots available for rooks next year, perhaps we trade our normal picks for higher picks in 2014 to stock pile 2-3rds picks like how NE do. This way, we will be very competitive for years to come.

Go Texans!!!

I want extra picks now as our needs are available & we should trade up in second to get better quality guys.

If I'm the texans I'd consider a big jump up in the first round if they can afford it cap wise...

Ok for whom? Remember not all first rounders hit. What playmaker is outside of say top 18? WHat would you realistically give up for say Matthews or Te'o, Hunter or Keenan Allen?

This means Rick should be using the 3rd 5th and 6th rd picks the Texans currently own along with Tate to try to move up and add atleast 3 difference makers in this yrs draft.

once we find out exactly how many picks we will have, the amount of mock drafts and fun myself and you guys are going to have will be HUGE!!!!!!!!!
best thing to do is give armchair GMs more picks lol!

I was thinking the same thing. When do we find out about Comp. picks, is it during the Combine about a month before the draft? That should be an exciting time provided we get the comp. picks that we're expecting. I just have a bad feeling about the comp. picks that somehow Goodell is going to screw us over.

Yes to all. The comp picks IIRC are announced shortly before the April draft. I think the key is the comp for Mario as to if a third as I expect or a 4th. We should be rooting for Mario to do great rest of season. lol

We are sitting in the driver seat & could use the extra picks to add depth players or as I hope to trade up to hit a higher quality player percentage wise. This is what watching the college games does for rmartin65, Beerlover and me. We love doing the mocks and interactin with all of you (especially the PMs). It is so cool to watch you guys doing your own mocks and exchanging info. It is exciting times to be a TEXAN!
