Trade scenarios 2025 Texans

I wouldn’t even consider getting rid of Fairbairn unless the replacement is a known in advance and a clear upgrade. Highly unlikely. Yes he had a bad game. It happens. Yes….in limited data..,cold is an issue. Know how to resolve that? Stop losing to the Jets and Titans. Win a game where you pick off five passes, and get home field advantage.

I don’t know why it’s not mentioned more, but the punter is a much bigger issue. He is very inconsisten, and overall average if I’m being kind. The Aussie was much better. I idea why they didn’t resign him, but if you want an upgrade in the kicking game, start with the punter.
Fairbarin isn't going anywhere due to his contract. But make no mistake Fairbarin has a history of choking in the playoffs.

And when they dont have HOA their players have to be able to perform on the biggest of stages.
The Texans need to dominate their weak division as the Bills and Chiefs have. Then win more of their share vs the other division winners. That's how you win Super Bowls. Start in the regular season. Let KC, Buffalo, and Baltimore come here. That needs to be next year's goal. HFA throughout the playoffs.

They've lost one division game in two yrs.

A note on the next FA period - there is a plethora of Guards and Safties available - two of our three biggest needs.
There is also a sprinkling of WR's, but nothing that really makes you go hmmm, except for maybe Amari Cooper, Nuk Hopkins or Chris Godwin.
Some of the FA's will be from the 49ers so...
One FA I would like to come home is Justin Reed, but he may command a premium contract.
I think NC will be in money saving mode after this next FA so he may make a move on some of the guys in there.
If we can fill two of our biggest needs in FA, it will allow Texans to shop for their favs in the draft and NC has shown he is not afraid to move around to get the guys he wants.

Is anyone familiar with the NFL Stock Exchange ? Stumbled onto them the other night .... really changed my world ! I became a Draft-Nik in 1982 when, in rebuilding the Oilers from the ground up, Mike Holovak began by drafting Mike Munchak ! Do what ??? I had QB's, RB's, flashy studs galore .... but a left guard ???? Boy .... did I ever learn a lot ! As a youth, I literally played every position on both sides of the ball .... except the line. It wasn't until 1982, that I really felt badly about my lack of appreciation for the big guys ... still do ! I began studying the big guys incessantly. Problem was, I never learned how to describe the nuances that separated the gooduns from the also-rans ! I used to communicate fairly well .... except when trying to describe those thousand idiosyncrasies. If you want to hear, no - experience masters - of this skill .... listen to those two young men at NFL S. E. - describe the offensive tackles in this draft - Baby, I'm Amazed !

Trevor Sikkema is a source I use.

I’ve been following them for 3+ years. Great content! They put out episodes at least once a week, but during draft season 2x/week.

Look up Bryan Broaddus on X. He's a former scout for the Superbowl winning Packers. He learned under Ron Wolfe. Is very Cowboys centric, but you will learn a lot about this years prospects.

On June 2nd trade Laremy Tunsil + Hutchinson to Jets for Garrett Wilson. Savings:
Texans Tunsil $21.3 m +$1m X = 22.3 and that's your new contract for Wilson. A post June 1st trade, offers Jets the same cap savings for Wilson but allows Houston to increase cap savings for 2025.

Jets move Fashanu to right tackle IF his foot injury has healed offering great book ends. This also allows Tunsil $ to go to Fashanu in 2027 moving him back to left side.
Jets do not tie up huge dollars on Wilson while awaiting QB. Tunsil has two more years with base pay only to NY of just under 21 million each year for Laremy and that is extremely cost efficient. They can extend him or let him go after 2026.

Texans bring in a superstar to pair with Collins and gives us two young great receivers for a long time. This moves the pressure from using pick 25 for a receiver and allows us to move it down to round four and still get a good player.

1.25 Josh Conerly starts day 1 left tackle.
2.57 TE Harold Fannin
3.89 LT Charles Grant

Yes he does. His efforts on run blocking is gross. After Tunsil he’s the one I want gone the most.
I dunno will Nick really move Tunsil out of here, because even though he's a crappy run blocker
isn't he still considered more or less elite at protecting the QBs blind side ?

I wonder what the trade market is for him? Also, who is his replacement?

I want Tunsil gone too, but not for scraps and not if there is no viable pass blocking replacement. Is Fisher capable? Howard? Free agent? Rookie?

Also, I have hopes that a new OC and OL coach could get more out of Tunsil and not allow some of the BS he previously got away with.

That said, if the answer to my above questions are there is a healthy trade market and we have a viable replacement I'd ship his ass out yesterday.

Tunsil for Garrett Wilson.

Meco said one of the things that needs to change is getting all players in here under the same trainers and medical staff working together as a group in the offseason is important. Tunsil likes tmm on sit out and and do his own thing and then come in when he’s ready. I think that was a shot at Tunsil. I think there is more to this that people know. Of course you’re not going to give him away but if they can get a decent offer I bet he’s gone.

I wouldn’t ditch 3 of the 5 starters on the OL in one off season. Howard and Mason would be a good start. Might be a great wake up call for Tunsil.

I’d really like to see the team make a run at C- Ryan Kelly. A Pro Bowl Center taking over as not only the new leader on the OL, but should be the right guy to call out the OL protections and restore CJ’s trust in his line…..especially on pass plays.

Patterson would slide over to RG and paired with RT Fisher. With Tunsil keeping LT by financial default, that would leave LG as the open spot to be filled by Scruggs, Broeker, Green ( if signed), or a draft pick.

If Munchak were to be hired, I believe he could get the best out of this unit and the personnel.

I like the idea of bringing CJ's buddy in here.
Wilson and Collins on opposite sides will give headaches to any defense we face.
I don't like the idea of getting rid of Tunsil.
He's a vet and although his run pro is only average, his pass pro is excellent 👌
I would be happy with a trade for Wilson - even if it costs more than our first. Maybe toss in Hutchinson plus this year's or next year's third.
You take the best available OL from the draft with your second.

I'd trade Tunsil & put Howard at LT.

Alaric jackson Indy FA almost as good; 4 years younger+ less$.

Bears need protect Caleb Williams plus need OG. Tunsil; Scruggs and our round 3 plus 2026 round 2.
Texans get 1.10 +2.39 +2.41.

You would not ditch 3/5 of your offensive line to make it better? Also, Tunsil is not going to awaken as he is interested in his paycheck. He sees himself as a business and I don't disagree with that. He is not afraid of being traded.

None of the guys you mentioned have been very successful at left guard. Another year is not going to improve that. Patterson is the offensive center of the future and extremely inexpensive. No reason to move him. If you're going to bring in free agents and I hope they do, fix what's broken first at guards.
A new offensive coordinator cannot ring water out of a dry rag.

Swap Scruggs with Kenyon & you've got a deal.

Psshh.. a former 1st round pick on a team that fired their OC, OL coach, & refused to bring back the OL coach assistant.
Well maybe if Kenyon was allowed to use crutches on the field. You know so the opponent would not be allowed to hit him cuz he's handicapped.

Why wouldn't the Bears just sign Jackson in FA and save the draft capital?

Tunsil has been no dummy when it comes to his loot. He wouldn't restructure unless it's beneficial to him. That would mean either guaranteeing more of his current contract or adding more money to it. He doesn't have is a no trade clause
He's restructured more than once already. Posters may not like to hear this, but the Texans org likes Tunsil much more than the fan base does. Why, because he's an elite pass protector of CJ blindside.

Question BB ? How do you rate Fisher's performance in his rookie year & do you really belive he could be our LT over the long-term ?
Good question and I am still processing. As with all of our offensive line; hard to evaluate due to what most believe was poor coaching and coaching decisions. Although most of Fisher’s college snaps were at right tackle; my observations pre-injury (at left tackle) were that he would be solid LT in the NFL. I think he did ...okay, considering Strausser + Mason's going geriatric. He needs to have massive year. We should bring in cheap FA to back him or draft Ajani Cornelius from Boston. Fisher at RT for another season.

Next week [hopefully] new coaching will give a hint of off season. Most focused on Chip Kelly. I'm hoping for Ryan Day. Yep, readers just got whiplash.

1. Day's salary this season was $10 million but.. base was only $1m and $5m was for appearances and ~ 1/2 m for one annual appearance for Coca Cola. I can't remember the balance but we should be able to hook him up with a deal.

2. Would Day be OC? Many have projected him to HC NFL but seemingly he wants to remain at Ohio State. After championship, he might be willing?

Good thought and was for me also but research led me to believe Chicago is ramping up to battle Patriots for free agent Trey Smith. Many are projecting huge numbers and if so, I am no longer thinking Nick will hang. Bears could trade for Tunsil [base cost only $21 m each].

I have Aleric Jackson at ~ 25 APY VS Tunsil's 21 fixed. Bidding could push Trey Smith to $25 m +.

Not saying it could not happen.
I also think Jackson would be more likely to sign with Houston for perceived better chance at ring.

That commits stupid penalties and cannot run block well or get into second level...

SMH, you're really stretching things to get rid of Tunsil.

You would rather pay Jackson 25 mil APV and Tunsil 21 mil over the next 3 yrs. I dont understand this line of thinking. Particularly since Tunsil is the better/much more accomplished player.

Because you insist on tunnel (Tunsil) vision. It is not Tunsil versus one player but Jackson plus what we could get for Tunsil. Yes, I would rather play a 26-year-old Jackson at left tackle versus the 31 YOA Tunsil. Also, you keep getting the amounts incorrect. If Laremy goes to Bears or Jets for example, the new team only plays his base salary of 21. If he remains on the Texans, we have the entire cap head of $29 m ~ Each year. In addition to that, the 25 Mill apy that I quoted for Jackson can be adjusted to a figure of approximately 14 to 15 million dollars in 2025. So we could look at halfing the cap costs at left tackle. That cannot be ignored.
