Tracking Texans ticket prices

Wolf

100% Texan
In case you haven't heard, the Texans announced a ticket price increase yesterday. The Texans’ average general ticket price in 2012 will be $78.66 per ticket, which is up 8.5 percent from $72.47 in 2011. (houstontexans.com)

This wasn't unexpected given the Texans success in 2011, but it's always a bitter pill to swallow when those renewals come due in February.

This is the seventh time in ten opportunities that the Texans have raised ticket prices. The only years that prices weren't raised was in 2003, 2006 and 2011. Ticket prices weren't raised in '06 and '11 because of the poor product put on the field the season before. Ticket prices in 2003 remained the same as in '02 as part of the team's original ticket sales and marketing plan.

For whatever reason I've held on to ticket stubs from every Texans season so it's been easy for me to track the price of tickets, at least those in my section of the stadium (102) and comparable sections (103, 110,111, 122, 123, 130, and 131)

Needless to say, it's a little shocking and depressing to see the face value of my game ticket go over $100.

Season tix holder since day one....day one $48 in Section 136..now $78, my only question is, in 10 more years are we going to be paying $110 for the same ticket? When does it stop, answer, never...15 years, $125?

100% increase in the cost to park in Yellow. In year 1 an 2...10 bucks a game. NExt season...$20 bucks a game.

Its possible. In terms of business they have plenty of demand to keep raising ticket prices.

BoB has to get his.

I'm OK with it as long as he spends the $$$$ to improve the team. (Signing JoJo and Manning) Instead of putting the $$$$ in his pocket.

I dont think very many season ticket holders would drop if he kept the spending the same. Any of those lost season ticket holders would be offset by those waiting to snatch them up to be honest

I suspect that when analyzed, the Texans season ticket prices, irrespective of the raises, will still fall middle of the pack in comparisom to others.

As they should, considering the Cost-of-living index in Houston. It's definitely a luxury item, but not quite Neiman Marcus luxury.

I think the operative word here is "secondary market." Since the Cowboys have a number of prime time games such as Sunday night, Monday night and Thanksgiving day, the average cost is about right. However, that amount drops significantly for season ticket holders.

Up until this year, the average cost in the secondary market for the Texans is about correct, but expect a change this upcoming year. #s 26-31 are about what I would expect on a secondary market because they aren't very good teams, therefore it would probably be extremely difficult to sell a ticket for even face value. I expect a drastic change in prices for the 49ers next year.

And that's after a decade of just one playoff appearance. Imagine if they have a Patriots type run the next decade.

And it won't stop as long as people keep paying it.

I've never missed a game, but I suspect the day will come when they price me out. Thankfully, we're not there yet.

i live in the austin area and people are amazed at what i pay for pro football in a dome vs a longhorn game, not to mention you need to donate to the longhorn foundation or something like that for season tickets. my seats are about half what a buddy pays for cowboys tickets in the same general location of their stadium

Y'all are missing a key point here. Most of the Texans tickets are covered by a PSL. The Texans know how much these PSL's trade for on the secondary market. PSL's have value, at least for now. Very few people are going to walk away from their PSL just because the cost of tickets rises. Until tickets prices reach the point where a PSL has no value, the Texans know they can raise ticket prices and people will pay.

At what point do you think ticket prices would have to rise to cause PSL to have no value?
