Any thoughts on Nebraska DL Ty Robinson? He can move.. thanks

He’s not talked about much in the draft circles that I listen to, except Mel Kiper. Mel thinks he’s a day 2 pick and is underrated.

I’ve been talking this guy up. I was really impressed that he came to the Combine at 288 pounds. He was listed at 6-6 and 305 lbs before the Combine….I’ve stated multiple times I’d like to see him 10-15 lbs lighter so he could focus on being a DE.

He has the non-stop motor trait of JJ Watt. Roughly the same type of player who needs a little more refinement as a full time DE.

Combine Height, Weight, and 40 Time
JJ Watt: 6-5 / 290 lbs / 4.84-40
Ty Robinson: 6-5 / 288 lbs / 4.83-40

This guy would be a priority target if I was Caserio and Ryans.

I'm not giving Robinson a JJ comp, except for position. Robinson is more of a base DE in a even front and 5 technique in an odd front. That's why these predraft rankings don't make sense They put 5 techs with 3 techs, with 2 gap DTs. A team looking for a 5 tech isn't going to draft a 2 gap DT just because the NT is higher on someone's list.

As far as the Texans are concerned, it will be easier (not easy) to identify what they are looking for in the draft after they have signed/re-signed defensive linemen in free agency. If the Texans cut ties with Autry, a guy like Ty Robinson would make a lot of sense in that he has the flexibility to rush from different spots.

Georgia Pro Day

“Linebacker/pass rusher Charles Chambliss did not run the forty as he was just cleared from a significant injury suffered during Shrine Bowl week. He did touch 32 inches in the vertical jump, 10 feet even in the broad jump, and completed 30 reps on the bench.

Teams project Chambliss as a rush linebacker at the next level, best suited in a 3-4 alignment. He’s been to Detroit for an official 30 visit before pro-day with the Lions and absolutely fits the Dan Campbell profile. The Houston Texans met with Chambliss extensively before the workout, and that would be another terrific fit.”

Josh Conerly OT

“Offensive lineman Josh Conerly looked terrific on Pro Day. He completed 24 reps on the bench and sat on the rest of his numbers from the combine. Conerly looked smooth and very athletic during position drills.

There is a back and forth in the league as to which position Conerly will be drafted at come April. He presently ranks as the draft’s top guard on my board. The feeling is that a team could start Conerly at guard as a rookie and then eventually push him out to left tackle.

Where will he end up in the draft? Very likely the middle part of Round 1, and no later than the Houston Texans, who have scheduled an official- 30 visit with the lineman.”
