Just when you thought a Super Bowl run couldn't be any harder. I'll be praying for you and your family Tony.

On ESPN.com:

"James Dungy, the 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, was found dead at 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday in his apartment in Lutz, Fla., a suburb of Tampa, Debbie Carter, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Thursday.

A death investigation is under way, and the spokesperson said that the county medical examiner's office or the hospital at which James Dungy was pronounced dead would have a ruling on the cause of death.

James Dungy officially was pronounced dead this morning at University Community Hospital in Tampa.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. Indianapolis plays at Seattle this Saturday."

Horrible news, my prayers go out to Tony's Family and friends

So sorry to hear this. Tony Dungy is a total class act, and I will be praying for him and his family. Of course, I will wait to hear the facts before speculating, but it's unlikely that this was of natural causes. It kind of puts football in perspective.

Man, what a bummer. Coach Dungy is such a classy guy. :(

Really sad that it has to be right before Christmas, too.

My condolences as well. You're right it does put football in its proper place. I'd honestly have to say I'd be done for the season.

Such saddness at a time of year when there should be nothing but joy and celebration. My thoughts and prayers will be with the Dungy family as they try to deal with this horrible tragedy. BE THANKFUL fellow Texans for all the good things you have in your life today! Life can certainly throw us some nasty curves.

Terrible thing for Tony Dungy and his family - all of our thoughts and prayers
go out to him. I just hope the press respects he and his family and doesn't make a media circus out of it, though I would not put it past them. After all,
the Colts with their winning streak were the "on field" story in the NFL this year, and the media may look upon this as the "off field" story to go along with it (depending on what the circumstances are). Number one consideration is the respect and privacy Tony and his family deserve.

OMG, what a horrible turn of events. Prayers to Tony Dungy and family for their loss. What a time of year to have to endure this, I wish the best for the entire family and hope the media shows class on handling this.

A loss is a loss. It does not matter of what killed him, but it does matter on the effect it will have. Losing a son for me, no matter what the case, would be a nightmare. I cannot, and wish I dont, ever have to face this horrible, horrible experience. I am not a religious man to say, but I pray that if something does exist, to help Tony through this. He will need all the help he can muster to move on from this.

The colts board is flooded with condolences from all over the world (from indy, to tampa, to manchester) so I'll post some condolences here too.

I can't imagine having to lose your child 3 days before christmas. And knowing how much Tony loved his family, this brought a tear to my eye.

Prayers should go out to the Dungy family. Their 18 year old son was found dead in his Tampa apartment. Please keep this in mind when you go home and remember your loved ones cause you never know when your last time will be together.

Absolutely awful news. My prayers go out to him and his immediate family and trust the Colt family will help him through these tough times.

The Colts board has been impossible to access, I have tried all morning. That is good, it just shows that people care and want the Colts family to know that. I hope and pray the media respects this wonderful man's request for privacy, and will not speculate on what they do not know for fact.

I pray for the peace that this family will need to deal with this loss.
I pray for the family to find strength at this hardest of losses.

I too have been trying to get into the Colts forum with no luck. Good to hear that condolences have been pouring in world-wide over there. I will try later on tonight to get in.

THat is what they are saying on PFW too.. though they arent a very trustworthy source.

This is heartbreaking.

I sit here trying to think of something to say but I can't put it into words.

I was thinking the same thing myself. There is never really a lot you can say to someone who is going through probably the worst part of their life taht they could possibly be going through except to hope and pray there is some way they can get through it...

How tragic! May peace and comfort be with the Dungy family during this time of tremendous sorrow.

It was confirmed on breaking news here in Indy that it was indeed suicide. They are still waiting on the autopsy and noone has said the exact cause of death. What a horrific thing to have happen to such a wonderful man/family. I want to thank you all, on behalf of the Colts nation for all your kinds words and condolences. I think everyone around the NFL are grieving right now for this family.

You are wrong.

It does matter what killed him. I am a psychiatric social worker.

The suicide of ones child has it's very own unique baggage.

Yeah, the board is running smoothly.

We have a thread going for people to stop in and post your condolences. We are working with the colts media people to get the thread printed out and sent to the Dungy family. So get in there if you'd like them to see your well wishes.

This is so true!! It definitely does matter! Suicide is probably the most difficult death to deal with emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. You want answer's and there are none, at least none you want to accept.

I have experienced suicide with a immediate family member first hand and I can tell you it is the absolutely worst thing that can happen to a family and in some cases destroys families. Everybody knows about the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance.

Well with suicide its totally different. With every other cause of death its out of the the victims control and is easier to accept in time, but with suicide they CHOSE to take their own life and that leaves you with nothing but questions like, Why did they do this, What could possibly been going through their mind to make them do this, and the hardest ones to answer are, Was is something I did or something I said, is their anyway I could have prevented this, Why didn't I see the signs or been there for them.

With the 5 stages of grief you only go through about two and that is depression and anger. You end up being angry at the person because you feel they didn't have enough love or care enough for you to prevent them from taking their own life, you never really reach acceptance.

The only reason why I talk about this is because people don't realize how many of the people they know are acually clinically depressed, especially teenagers. You wouldn't believe the % of teenagers that have had suicide thoughts or attempted suicide. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. My Heart truly goes out to the Dungy family, because they have a long emotional battle to go through.

Please let's not argue over which death is worse. I think all Dime was saying was its going to hurt no matter what.

I agree some deaths are harder to take than others b/c with suicide either you were suffering from depression or you made a choice which as a parent is hard b/c you feel like you didn't do enough.

Let's just not let this turn into an argument. Let's just continue to hug our families a little tighter and let our kids know we love them a little more.

Prayers here too. I saw Peyton this morning on the news, it's nice to know how well loved Mr Dungy is "as a man" by his team. Those were the words Peyton used instead of "coach" I was touched.

I agree I'm not trying to argue which one is worse, that would be stupid. I just think people need to look for the signs and be a little more aware of the people around them. I feel so bad for Dungy and have no idea how he is going to go back to coaching this team.
