Unreal. Can't make this sht up.
So I am wrong about what I said? I probably am today because I have nothing to go on today. My local CBS affiliate didn't broadcast the Texans game today but based on post on here it appears we didn't look all that impressive. That is par for the course for quite a few games now.

The Texans played their offensive skill players for 1 series. The tAcks got some garbage time yards on some circus catches and an incredibly lucky TD pass that was just about to be intercepted. That play was reminiscent of the Texans knocking down a Hail Mary pass against the Jags, only to have it caught for a TD.
Again, lots of backups played today. It was a good win and the starting O looked sharp on the opening drive.

Mills inaccuracy made itself known with that slant to Diantae in the EZ, and the long toss down the right sideline. Got bailed out with the PI.

That said, even with those bouts of inaccuracy, that was arguably the best I have seen Mills look. He seemed in control of the offense, went to his 2nd and 3rd reads with success, moved around pretty well when required, and moved the offense successfully for the most part.

B+ half from the backup.
I would hope he played well today, the dude can see clear over the OL and defensive front with that “go go gadget neck” he has..,..

Did he though? They had 273 total yards in the 1st half. 165 of that was the 1st drive and DP’s 92 yard run. 2nd half the Texans had 111 total yards, 36 passing yards. Mills was 2-9 for those 36 yards in the 2nd half. He completed 54.5% of his passes for the game (not very good) and had a passer rating of 71.8, which is also not good. Oh, and they scored 0 points in the 2nd half BTW.

So, yeah, I can see the team as a whole getting a good grade, DP with a career game, Barnett was a beast, but Mills was Mills. He didn’t give it away, but he’s not very good.

In fairness, I wrote that before halftime. I would modify my score from B+ to C for the overall game. He is a backup for a T said…he did some decent things at times. Bit put. To consistently. And not when it mattered. CJ won’t need to look over his shoulder, but I do see some signs of growth.

I think they're looking at that Sanders kid.
That Sanders kid will be a bust in the NFL if he continues to run way behind the LOS trying to play hero ball and gets sacked forcing the offense to convert long yardage downs. I am a Buffs fan and have been since 85' but Shedeur has a serious flaw to fix in order be a better than average Qb in the NFL. He killed early momentum against BYU and the rest is history.

It's not that the Titans fans care about the Oilers.

It's that we don't have them.

It's also about the Oilers look/history is more popular and relevant than the newer Titans

They only pull out the "throw backs" when they face us... proving its about nothing more than spite.

I've said it a billion times, if we had the rights Id have no problem going to the old look old name.... but at the same time.... Im not desperate to see it either.

Im far more concerned with the team offering up good football over names and fashion.

Knowing its an attempt at a slap in the face is why I find the "Oilers" failure to beat us so humorous.

Pierce running the way he is today makes me wonder why Slowick didn’t utilize him more with Mixon earlier in the season.
When he did, Pierce did not seem to be able to get through the middle. I think that our offensive line is run blocking a little bit better at the end of the season.

He didn't play much, but he's been an upgrade since he moved to LG. He's really helped in the pass pro, not so much in the run game. Unfortunately I don't see a fa out there this off-season that would be much of an upgrade IMHO.
I agree 100% And also think that he will be the starting left guard in 2025.

Yep, Scruggs replacing Mason and Fisher playing RT was a big reason the run game was successful today.

Man, let this setup be successful next week. It would sure be a nice day for the Texans if, C-Patterson, RG-Scruggs, RT-Fisher, prove to be a strong answer going into next season.

That would leave LG as the question mark….that could be filled via the draft or signing a veteran UFA.

One veteran UFA of interest could be, LG/OG/OT/C- Brady Christiansen (BYU). He’s put together a very good 2024 after injuries took away some playing time in 2022 and 2023. His versatility could be reminiscent of Bruce Mathews. The success he’s enjoyed has come with the Carolina Panthers, a crap organization. It may not take much to get him to jump ship and join the Texans…especially if he knew he was being signed to take over the LG position. He’s been bounced all over the OL with the Panthers, not to mention a new HC and OC each season. Give him stability and a singular position focus and it probably delivers in a big way.

LT- Tunsil
LG- Christiansen
OC- Patterson
RG- Scruggs
RT- Fisher

& Cj too. Did you see him when Mills went Rosencopter into the ground?
Unfortunately not. Was so focused on horrific memory, ingrained in my brain that nothing else registered after that incident. Otherwise, would love to pull a Matt Schwab trade to another team.

:toropalm:

Give me Booker or Milum in the draft and sign Kelly in FA. Christiansen is a really solid guy though and would be a good addition. Plus he's been healthier than Kelly.

Did Tunsil play long enough to get his false start? Enquiring minds want to know.
Did his false start hurt the team? Nope

Did he do a good job protecting CJ, Mills blindside? Yes

Did he do a good job of sealing off the backside on Piece long TD run? Yes

Any other things you want to know about the ol play in general? Patterson and Scruggs at RG both looked really good.

Damn iPad corrects me and makes me look like I’m drunk. Hardest thing I had was water!

There is a FA guard coming off a tibia injury who I'd be willing to go after. Colts right guard Will Fries
Fries if healthy and he should be, could kick out to right tackle with 26 of 48 at Penn State and KCs Trey Smith would be awesome at LG.
Pulling 2 good starters from our opponents always helpful.

Looking at ~$18.5 APY for each.

Indy has $50m cap space and can create more. Nick would have to come high with GTD money.

This would be a significant move but we are in win now mode.
