TIME TO REBOOT AGAINST THE STEELERS WEEK 3

Assuming you didn't watch the game but it's cool. Continue to hate on Deshaun.
So, you're ok with him passing up 2 wide open receivers to throw to the guy triple teamed, which ultimately ended up being an 8 point swing and costing them the game? He's to have no blame?

8 bad games and counting..

Just my dos centavos, but I don't think Watson was in a position to throw to any other receiver. Should he have eaten it or thrown it out of bounds? The latter might have been grounding if he had.

Average QB crowd ain't interested in hearing the truth, He was supposed to superman this game regardless of the situation at hand. It's why I can't take any of them serious, only a couple of them those so minority none the less.
I would settle for avg.

Who said anything about icing the game in the first half. My quote:

“It's O'Brien's/the OL/the WR's fault that the 160 million dollar man couldn't lead his team to so much as a field goal in the second half, and when presented the chance to ice the game up 21-20 in Pitt territory in quarter 4, he instead threw an int.

Reading comprehension.....learn some before you open your cakehole and make a fool of yourself again.
The INT was thrown in the FIRST HALF NOT in the 4th qtr so my comment stands regardless of whatever name calling you want to do. You obviously could care less for facts or time sequences as you’re here to cry about a particular player so carry on.

I believe he threw the INT in the 2nd half.
You are correct it was in the 2nd half my f@ck up. I still don’t lay the loss on DW and I’m not an all or nothing DW fan. He could’ve had a better game sure but we got our asses handed to us via the front seven. DW can have a flawless game but if you can’t stop anyone it just won’t matter. That was ugly on the defensive side.

Agreed

BOB/DW4/Defense were playing complimentary football in the 2nd half. Bad football.

Cobb is the best Slot WR in team history (Upgrade over Coutee) Cooks has started in 2 of the last 3 SB's and isn't chopped liver. WFV is WFV (Really good when healthy, hardly ever healthy) Stills is a starter level WR as a backup. (There's nothing wrong with this WR corps) The route running is beter this yr. IMHO BOB is to blame for Coutee/Carter seeing the field. They shouldn't be on the roster.

RB's DJ when healthy (Which he is this yr) is a huge upgrade over Hyde due to his versatility.

The TE's are the same and it appears that Akins has improved greatly.

Everybody was clamoring for Kelly and they got him. I wish BOB had gone outside the org and hired a vet OC. Devlin is BOB's albatross, he should've been fired 3 yrs ago and a new OL coach allowed to tell the GM what type of OL he needed to be successful. (Devlin sucks at his job.)

You know my thoughts on BOB.

I would say BOB's 2 biggest faults are 1. Hiring 2 coordinators with zero experience in the same yr and expecting them to both be successful. 2. Not firing Devlin this offseason and looking for an upgrade.

All of this doesn't matter until DW4 improves his play. Which seems very unlikely after 4 yrs of seeing no improvement.
Im in 50/50 agreement with your post. Cooks and Cobb are good additions. Here’s the 50/50 part, if you added those guys to Hop and Fuller then OB has improved the team. Replacing Hop with those 2 is at best a wash, more likely a net negative IMO.

So far I‘ve been less than impressed with Johnson. I want him to work out, I have a soft spot for guys that have been injured working their way back. He looked good against the Chiefs but mediocre to bad against the Ravens and Steelers.

You and I are in agreement on Develin, he’s terrible yet OB keeps him around...I can’t figure this out. It’s so frustrating

Where we differ is you seem to place more blame with Watson than OB, at least that’s the impression I get from your post history. I do agree that that Watson needs to improve in important areas. However after 7 years of the same mediocre BS, I’m assigning the lions share of the blame on OB. Honestly, can you think of a player that’s markedly improved under OB’s coaching? I can’t. Watson has shown signs of excellence, all you have to do if watch the first half of the Steelers game. He was phenomenal. In the second half, OB and Kelly flipped the game plan and we lost all rhytmn and flow. Watson was 14 out of 18 with 2 TDs and we threw 9 passes in the second half. I saw an over reliance on the run continuously put us in the 3rd and long against the best pass rush in the league. That’s just poor coaching

What’s he saying?
Steelers basically knew what Texans were doing. Blitzed mainly against the run because they knew it was coming. Dropped 7 in coverage to take away lanes in passing and they knew they could get pressure with just a 4 man rush.

Texans best offensive series came when Deshaun three the ball every time and marched down the field and scored.

Texans came out at half time and tried to run the ball and killed any momentum they had.

Steelers playing young players and getting more production than Texans costly vets.

Talked about a few instances in the run game where players are taking a beeline straight to rb and in passing game they know it’s a pass so even though only rushing 4 most times the dline is able to tee off.

Talked about the crappy jet sweep action and the point of it being to cause some confusion for defense, but the WRs are not running it convincingly and they never give the ball so defenses basically ignore it. Basically the only thing it’s doing is telling the defense the real play that’s coming.

Talked about how Deshaun is basically playing with an arm tied behind his back due to play calling and scheme.

No regular snaps yesterday from any of the rookie class.

Teams playing rookies and taking a big part in their game plans but Texans rather pay high priced vets who last had good seasons years ago.

A bunch of other stuff, but basically picking apart how OB is not giving this team a chance to play their best and how he needs to be on the hot seat to stop further damage to this team moving forward.

Future is already going to be rough, but no need to let OB stick around and make it even tougher.

Just my thoughts: I don’t think OB will be here past this season. I know the Texans have been patient/foolish but I can’t see them as a business letting this continue. OB is too stubborn to make the changes that will lead to a good offense so I don’t see this getting much better. I doubt this team makes the playoffs this season but if they lose this next game put a fork in them and OB, IMO.

BOB/DW4 are nothing more than a failed partnership. Oil/Water

3 and outs is why they only threw 9 passes. The sacks caused them to fall behind the chains. With this said, I agree, the 2nd half gameplan was dumbfounding and the partnership share in the blame. Can DW4 audible out of plays?

Even when there are "professional opinions" like these, they would just brush them aside. :corrosion:

The Steelers had the Texans completely figured out yesterday. When the Texans tried to run versus nickel, the Steelers blitzed a DB every single time except for once when they sent an LB. Here are the second-half run attempts vs. nickel.

Looks like a blocking issue to me. The QB needs to be able to identify where the blitzer is coming from and adjust the blocking scheme or audible out of the play. Can DW4 audible out of plays?

My problem with this is that this was a huge problem last season. The Texans didn't do anything to address this problem. They cut our best TE cover DB in Tashaun Gipson for some reason (whom has started all three games for the Bears so far). Then they overpay for a backup Safety in Eric Murray to replace him.

The DB doesn't show blitz until the ball is snapped. The Steelers know a thing or two about disguising blitzes. If anything, the OC should recognize this and call up some plays to make them pay for this aggression.

.....let me politely remove the PC of this post. OB was an absolute ducking idiot to move away from what was working in the first half to go ultra conservative in trying to eat the clock with a non-existent running game. He is 100% at fault for this loss b/c in no way can anyone nor OB explain the benefit of his offensive philosophy in 2nd half.

At what point did he fail to realize his offense was fairly unstoppable in the first half and his defense was playing slightly over their heads. An intelligent HC might've gone into halftime and told the team, "the offense is eating them up so we're going to up the pace and the points to help the defense out". Instead, he hits the kill switch on the offense and puts it on the defense to win the game. OB should've been fired at the end of the game.......6 years 3 games and counting!!!!

Gipson was mired with injuries last year, after being essentially injury free in his previous career. His injuries should not have led to permanent debilitiy. But as I posted in the past, it would be expected to affect him for the next season (2020). The Bears were concerned with his medical status and put him through additional testing before they finally signed him. As it stands, the Bears have used him in a very limited capacity as he has been relatively ineffective so far this season. He has been credited with 1 intercepection...which was essentially thrown right to him. However, he has been been targetted 5 times while allowing 4 completions.

He has played 100% of the defensive snaps through the first three games. That's an odd way of limiting his capacity? He's also 4th on the team in tackles. I haven't been watching the Bears, so can't really comment on his play... but seeing that the Bears have never subbed out for him, tells me the Bears are ok w/ his health.

BTW, I'm not saying Gipson would be saving our defense right now. Merely pointing out that we have a weakness on the team, and not only are we not looking to improve in that area, the FO makes moves to make it worse.

Similar to rush defense. We weren't very good in that area last season... so what do we do? Let DJ Reader go in FA and cut Angelo Blackson. After seeing our defense in the first three games, cutting Blackson is a real head scratcher. Not saying Blackson would solve the problem, but he is another run stuffing body.

The Texans rookies didn't play a single snap on offense or defense yesterday..................... a franchise 1st.
OB told us going into this season that with the abbreviated preseason the Texans would be in good shape compared to the league as we would be playing mostly veterans and not having to deal with rookies. This is a benefit that should continue to pay dividends as he has traded away so many upcoming draft picks.

You know the answer:

It's O'Brien's/the OL/the WR's fault that the 160 million dollar man couldn't lead his team to so much as a field goal in the second half, and when presented the chance to ice the game up 21-20 in Pitt territory in quarter 4, he instead threw an int. He certainly proved once again he's a once in a generation talent......lol.

He was effective in the first half when presented with an excellent pocket and no pressure. Pretty much any qb in the NFL can be effective under those circumstances, though. Once Pitt decided to attack Watson in the second half, he couldn't adjust and was completely ineffective.
Has any QB looked anything but unimpressive under BO'b? While many want to pile on DW4 they don't take into account his top QB peers who have had much better O-lines and offensive weapons that their coaches know how to utilize. DW4 has not shown to have improved much but is that mostly on him or his clueless head coach?

This is just a very poorly run organization. The GM has made terrible trades and put the Texans in cap trouble with no high value picks for the next few years. The defense has been neglected for years to save the offense and it shows in a big way. The offense has no identity and the OC has shown little or no ability to make smart adjustments or play to the team‘s strengths.

Neither Prime Brady or Mahomes could come in and save this team. Prime Belichick would have his work cut out for him turning around this dumpster fire. Bill has run this team into the ground.

To be fair, I doubt he was trying to eat the clock. If I had to guess, I'd guess he was trying to establish some balance to help his QB out. But if those were the best run plays we've got (the same ones that didn't work in the first half), then we're just screwed.

Instead, he should have focused on what worked & used that to open the run game.

Stoerner said these blitzes were so easy to recognize that DW4 must not be able to audible.

I don't believe this because if true DW4 would never have re-signed or he would change the play anyways since he's now the 160 million dollar man.
