i would really like to see winston return to 2004 form. he would be a great value if that was the case. do you guys really think that spencer should be a tackle or do yall think he will be moved down to gaurd. i know he has played both but he seems kind of big a bulky for a tackle. i have heard good things about his foot work though.

I've heard that Spenser has a better shot at making tackle than Winston, just based on the player's readiness for the NFL. Not a Fact, Just a Rumor (NAFJAR), so take it for what it's worth. I've been posting for months now that IMO, it will be Wand/Pitts/Flanagan/McKinney/Weigert. That is the current starting line, and unless something goes completely FUBAR, I don't expect it to change much.

Anyway, these numbers lead me to think:
1) Pitts is staying at guard or we have no guard depth.
2) Salaam will get cut so we carry only 9 lineman.
3) Spencer might eventually see some guard duty. He should be the most flexible since he has the speed and footwork of a tackle and the strength of a guard.

Flanagan is not exactly standing on solid legs himself.
Weary is another non-starter with some injury problems.
Hodgdon looks like a project special teamer.. certainly cannot expect him to start if Flanagan goes down. I wouldn't think so anyway.

Im not sold on Wand as the starting LT just yet but there is always the option of moving Pitts back to that spot if he fails to hold the spot down . BUt that makes the guard depth very slim .
Weigert is a solid RT If he can avoid injury.
Flanagan is an immediate upgrade at the center position over Mckinney , but will he play 16 games ?
I think we will see much improved play from the OL even early in the season , but by the half way point I expect to see them dominate some games .

SI put out a "photos" section of the 10 players most likely to impact the AFC South. Flanagan is one of these new selections, and I hope he is as effective as his resume suggests (Pro-Bowler in 2004).

Partly because of the acquisition of two tackles, I think more speculation is being made about that position, but I was wondering if anyone in the know has information about the inside linemen? Thanks.

I think it was not all Pendry's fault. I think that we had talent problems as well. But I still put 90% of the blame on the coaching staff. They got all got canned because the players didn't buy into their program anymore. They made enough poor coaching decisions that their credibility with the players was lost. How can they teach and lead with no respect?

Spencer is the wild card in all of this and projecting into the future. He has only played offense for two years, one each at guard and tackle as I understand it. He is raw because of this limited experience, but it apears he has a tremendous combination of agility and strength. If he can be coached up to NFL levels, and I think he can be, he could be a force at either guard or tackle. I guess he needs to learn one position first, but it will be interesting to see where he ends up and how soon.

Players have said in interviews this year that they were "behind the curve" in zone blocking in the past and that the changes they've seen from this group of coaches have been amazing...(don't expect a direct quote....that's the short version)
I like Hodgdon (sp?) also. He has way above average upper-body strength for any type of lineman (read: won't get pushed around by D tackles/noseguards). His spot duty last year impressed me. He didn't exactly set the world on fire but I thought he held his own quite nicely. I see him as the center of the future, maybe 1 or 2 years from now when Flanagan (sp?) hangs 'em up.
I also agree we look center next year on the second day (barring special talent on first day) to groom for depth.

I like Hogdon too but I don't think he beats out Flanagan unless Flanagan gets hurt (again). Is that what you were implying? If so, that is a real possibility.
I think Wiegert's days are numbered due to age and injuries. How long do we have him signed for? What about McKinney?

I don't see them putting Winston at OG for part of the year if they intend for him to play OT. I also don't see Hodgdon being put in mid-season unless Flanagan gets hurt, otherwise I like this lineup.
