Those who fail to study history...

Nice to see a good article with some honest refelction from Wade and I agree 100%:
"It's my job to lose," said Wade, who has started at right tackle with the Texans since last season. "Competition's always good. I've been somewhat dominating on the running game, but the last couple of weeks my pass protection hasn't been so good. It's got to improve. I'm not surprised. When you're 0-4, you've got to do something and do it quick."

I thought this was pretty honest too - and the fans should heed the implied warning. There is some difficulty in Pitts moving from guard to tackle, as he admits:

"There are a lot of little nuances about tackle that I'm going to have to get back in the swing of early, but I feel like I'll be able to go out there and compete and do a good job against anybody in the league," Pitts said. "It's harder at tackle because you're dealing with better athletes who move better. They make you move your feet, and the more you move your feet the more chances you have to get out of balance.

Which would you rather have?

1. Pitts, McKinney, Hodgdon, Wiegert, Wade (Riley)
OR
2. Pitts, Brown, McKinney, Wiegert, Wade (Riley)

I'd rather see the rookie in there. With two veteran Guards at his side, this might be the best senario for him to be brought into the line-up that we'll see this season anyway. Give him a shot, what could it hurt.

In this case competition is not good, because it means no one is improving. I would hope that it is clear cut who is the best. I'm tired of seeing people moving in and out because there is no clear winner. That's true for almost everyone except DRob, DD, AJ and Carr. Mathis might also fit into that group and of course the kickers. There are simply not many people on this ball club who you would say are not replaceable. And, Yes David is by far our best QB. That might not be saying much for some of you, but that is the truth.

.....Carr.....

Sorry, but I'd like to see it like this:

Pitts, McKinney, Washington, Weigert, Wade
That line sounds good to me. I'm not a big Washington fan (lead feet) but the little he played at C he seemed to perform better than McKinney. He should know the line calls (unlike Hodgdon) as well which might allow McKinney to just block...that would be a good thing.

The line should have stayed as it was when the 2004 season ended. Basically the obvious starting point for this years line was...

WAND - PITTS- McKINNEY - WEIGERT - WADE

That is with no real quality free agents arriving during the off-season (I don't count Victor Riley). Had we been able to land Pace of course then Wand sits but generally I think you being where you left off in 2004.

From that point I'd make changes as needed. If McKinney was getting used in the middle all the time I'd look at Hodgdon but I'd probably try Washington first.

But Herv....that means you would have to only replace players if they were BEATEN OUT by actual play. You know we just hand players positions and "coach them up"....what's wrong with you anyway?

I'm sorry guys. I take that all back. I don't know what I was thinking.
