This Sunday is "Do or Die" for our season

I know there are a great deal of topics covering this Sunday's game, but in the broader sense I think our entire season depends on the outcome:

A win puts us back at .500 with the opportunity to take 2 out of the 3 upcoming games (Colts will be tough to beat). In no way does this guarantee a playoff spot or even a winning season, but it certainly puts us in a position to do good things and play meaningful games later this season.

A loss puts an end to our season. Going 2-4 and probabl losing to the Colts in a few weeks and later this season - making it more likely that we approach another 8-8 season. In short, it would be a disaster.

So, let's see how this team (outside of AJ) prepares itself and executes. If they are not ready to play and get pushed around again, we may as well start putting up our mock drafts. If we get a win - we can at least sit around and talk about our upcoming schedule with some passion and enthusiasm.

Go Texans!

Go ahead and start putting them up.

The Bengals are 4-1 and on a roll. 31-17

Right now the Texans are 2-3 with 11 games left. Realistically the Texans are already down to playing for a wildcard spot. The most games the Texans could lose and still have a shot would be 3 and that might not even do it. That would put us at 10-6. Looking at our remaining schedule I just don't see us winning 8 of 11. The Texans had better take care of business this week in Cincinnati or OP is right. Our season could very well be over.

AJ wrote a good article on this subject for the Examiner. Check out his analysis of the Texans playoff situation:

Here's how the AFC currently stacks up:

[5-0] Indianapolis, Denver
[4-1] Cincinnati
[3-2] Pittsburgh, New England, NY Jets, Baltimore (the happy fan line)
[2-2] San Diego
[2-3] Jacksonville, Houston, Miami
[1-4] Buffalo, Oakland, Cleveland
[0-5] Kansas City, Tennessee

You can see by this rack and stack how the Texans missed a golden opportunity at Arizona last week. They could have jumped ahead of Jacksonville in the standings and been up there with the Steelers, Pats, Jets and Ravens. But no.

Here's what Texans fans should hope for this weekend in addition to a win over the Bengals:

The Rams stun the Jags
The Broncos continue their improbable run by taking out the Chargers
The Vikings remaining undefeated by taking down the Ravens
The Titans (yes it's tough for me to type this) get off the schneid by somehow beating the Pats
Unfortunately I see no way for the Steelers to lose to the Browns or the Jets to lose to Buffalo, but obviously both of those unlikely outcomes would also help the Texans given they win on Sunday.

If the Texans lose to the Bengals, it's time to stick a meat thermometer in 'em. Five more minutes on the other side, aka a loss to the 49ers, and they'll be well done - by week seven.

I'm of course worried and you could be right, but I don't buy that. They play the game and if there is one thing the talent in the NFL proves year-in and year-out, it's that you just never really know what will happen. Pick'em is driving me NUTS because of that...lol.

the homer side of me keeps hoping, the realistic side of me is waiting for the next draft and head coach.

If we lose tomorrow the only hope we've got is that we're still "mathematically" in it. We need this conference win against a team who will be in a tight division race because if they lose their division it could give us a crucial tiebreaker for a wildcard.

If we drop to 2-4 we've still gotta play the Colts X2, an angry 49ers coming off a bye week, the Dolphins and Jags on the road, the Pats in week 17 who will probably be playing for a wild card spot, and of course the divisional Monday Night Football game against the Titans.

Who knows how good the Seahawks will be by the time we play them with Hasselbeck on the team again and we can never count on the Texans to win the gimme games (of which we have two in Buffalo and St. Louis).

This is a must win game because its gonna take a miracle to pull off 10-6 or 11-5 as it stands now. Chances will be slim and none we do it if we lose to the Bengals.

The Bengals are a better team offensively & defensively. We're going to lose. And we're going to look like the pathetic road team that we are while we do it.

We need to focus on how to play this game for 60 minutes on both sides of the ball. We've got three games to get our stuff together, before we run the gamut of AFC South divisional games. Indy, Bye, Tennessee, Indy, Jacksonville. We're lucky to be 1-1 & need to finish strong in the division.

& I'm not being negative...... I'm being positive. I'm positive the starting OL we see tomorrow will be very close to the OL we'll be seeing for a long time. All Kubiak guys (I don't really think White is a Kubiak guy).

So we learn how to play over the next 3 games. We finish the first half of the season 3-5.

Then we run the table on the rest of our division rivals, back to back games, 7-5. May not happen, but we've to beat the Colts twice. That's the only way to keep our play-off hopes alive.

7-5 with 4 games left. If we win 3 games, we're 10-6... We've got to hope the Colts don't win more than 10. We know they will win 10.

Then we'll own the tie breaker & the division.

:goodluck:

I haven't got to watch this game yet..... sounds like a doozy. So I can't say how we looked, or how well we played. But the stats.... & the W look pretty good.

We'll see how we follow it up with SF coming up, and Indy right behind them.

So far, it looks like were getting ready for a strong ending to this season.

Wash. Rinse. And repeat thread next Sunday. Thanks to the Texans slow start, there will be more "Do or Die" games.

Just about every team in a competitive division with playoff hopes have a number of "do or die" games. Pittsburgh has already had one. The Jets have one coming up this week and so does Baltimore. The Eagles have one next week along with the Cowboys. Atlanta needed the game tonight to keep in sight of NO. And, Arizona had one last week against us.

this is life in the competitive NFL. We aren't Indy, NE, NYG, NO, or Minnesota yet. I think I can live with that. Can't you?

The Texans aren't the Steelers, Eagles, or Falcons, either. Until they "do" more often than "die". Hopefully, I'll live to see that happen.

I could live with a consistent team, for the first time this year we played a full 60 minutes which I was absolutely shocked to see.

Now if we can do this against the 49'ers at home against a Frank Gore, who is a monster and the 49'ers coming off a bye week against an very poor showing against the seahawks.

The coach will have them ready to play let's hope we can be consistent again.

I don't have a problem with that. The fans feel like every game is "Do or Die"

I hope the organization from McNair to the waterboy feel like every game is "Do or Die"

This team really needs to string two "W's" together and get our Home Field Advantage back on track.

D-Rob needs to knock the snot out of Crabtree for about 3 consecutive plays...(or pass him off to Ryans/Cushing to do so over the middle) then I'll start breathing again.

On a side note: Just how many teams are we getting to face coming off their byes this year?
