The last 3 seasons I felt like I had an idea of how we would do. I have no idea what the outcome of this season will be. It could be anywhere from 4-12 to 10-6.

There are big questions on each side of the ball. Will the O-line be improved? Will DD remain healthy? Will Carr progress? Will the new secondary be better? Will the LB's be better? Will Palmer call better plays? Will we continue to give up third and long?

I don't know what to expect, I just hope we do well.

Look, if we did absolutely nothing this offseason and didn't even have a draft, we'd be better next season. Outside of DL, our entire team is young and most of the key players haven't reached their prime yet. Hey, maybe they won't be great players, but it's safe to say that Wand, Pitts, Gaffney, AJ, Weary, MBrown, Carr, Alexander, Robinson, Earl, RWalker, Babin, Peek, etc.... will be better in there 3rd and 4th years than they were as rookies or second year players.

We're young. We have depth and this year we'll begin to see how much talent we've assembled. Of course we could have a worse record than last year. Things happen. However, this year's team is clearly better and I see no reason to not have hope for the playoffs. We certainly can't expect it, but there is plenty of reason to hope for it. Get excited about this season because great things could happen!!!

Carr will be better no matter what but if our Oline is better than he'll be great. If DD is hurt I feel safer now because we have Morency and I think Hollings could still be good. Our WRs are for sure better and our secondary should be better because now Earl has experience and we also have PB whos young and fast. Our Dline got better and I think we will do a good job at LB because we have A LOT of depth there. I just wish we would've done something about our TE position

You do understand that most of the time all three DLmen positions in a 3-4 are played by DT's right?--examples, Seth Payne, Gary Walker, Robaire Smith. Or how about the fact that Erasmus James had zero chance of ever playing DE in a 3-4?--do you have a list of 266lb 3-4 DE's by any chance?

You have no idea what you're talking about. First of all, your comment about James indicates that you have no idea that we run a 3-4 or what that implies. Saying were going to go 4-12 is just asking to get blasted. Anyway I'm really getting excited about this upcomming season, especially about our LBs. If any of yall have any preseason tapes from last year plug in the Dallas game and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, I'm watching it right now. In the first half we pretty much ran the Lb crew we're going to have next year. Babin and Peek were playing at the olb spots and were making plays everywhere, especially Peek (watching this game and others from preseason and the regular season, this guy could of been a starter last year). Peek was dominating the starting Dallas Oline and was constantly in the backfield, he also made plays in coverage, watching that game he was EVERYWHERE and seems like one of those high motor guys everyone always wants and put pressure on the qb on almost all his blitzes. I'm telling yall right now by the end of next season this league is going to know Peek on a first name bases. Also Babin doesn't get enough credit for the season he had last year. For a converted DE from a small school he had a wonderful year and is a excellent run stopper and provides excellent speed on the other side, our sacks our going to go through the roof this year. On the line we have R. Smith who was getter better and better as the year went on in his transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4 and is going to be even better with another year under his belt in this system. T. Johnson was respected by many as the best DT in the draft last year and his strengths are said to be a devestating run stuffer and makes most of his plays in the backfield. Also the more I think about it he was the perfect pick, not only is he exactly what this team needed but his selection put some sereious fire under the butts of payne and walker. Our starting Dlineman haven't had pressure since they arrived in houston and Gary seems he's grown to comfortable now he has to look over his shoulder and thats very good. As for the secondary I didn't like the release of Glen and wanted him to stay here for one more year just for his leadership qualities, but I like solidifying his replacement. People don't realize that Buchanon had to play behind one of the worst dlines in the league and that put great pressure on Oaklands secondary. With Buchanon comming to houston and playing under his old coach and behind the constant pressure we are going to be able to supply with Peek on the field and with the improvement of Babin. We could have a big playmaking defense. What I mean by that is a defense that not only can keep you off the scoreboard but put points on it. I feel we will be fine on defense. On offense it all comes down to the Oline, if they can improve, which they should we should be fine. I feel one of our biggest strengths next year will be our rushing game, think about it, DD, V. Mor. Hollings, (I know people are dissapointed with him, but like I said I've been watching some of these preseason games and he looked like he was on his way to a excellent year, I wouldn't count him out yet as a contributor in our running game) and Wells, we are stacked, solid, and very deep at that position. We really don't have many glairing holes, yes it would be great to have a #2 reciever that could command attention and a all purpose TE, but its not like we don't have servicable players in those positions. We should be on the brink of a playoff birth leading up to the last week of the season.

I think we may have to take a few steps back b/c of our youth and lack of playing together and maybe look not for THIS season to be the breakout one but for 2006. I'm perfectly ok with this because it shows we are trying to contend for some time and not just settle for one season.

I cannot say with a definite tone yet, but Jerome Mathis may make you change your mind by mid-season next year. This should be a fun and interesting year.

While I agree that 2006 should be our TRUE breakout year after another offseason of spending, etc..... the inexperience you speak of shouldnt be nearly as bad as last year starting as many rookies as we did.

Agreed!! Just look at our DB's for this year. We have Daunte who should be a pro bowler. PB who should also be very good. And Faggins who has done nothing but play great every time he has been given a chance. We are going to be fast and this is the first year that Capers will have his own guys playing in his system. Faster...and maybe even significantly. Sharper was not getting any younger. Yes, he made TONS of tackles....but an Inside LB in a 3-4 is supposed to lead the team in tackles. Greenwood is known for his speed, pass coverage, and is younger. Am I the only one who thought Glenn lost a step last year in all facets? The PB signing was perfect timing to get younger and better at that position without having to use a first round pick. Babin is a year further removed from Division II. We ALL know what Peek is known for... right? Our DLine is supposedly healthy now, and throw a talented anchor in our first round pick and we have a younger line with more rotation depth.

Basically getting Younger, Faster, and Cheaper in one offseason were moves we could not pass up.

I'm not of the mindset that Glenn lost a step last season. I feel he struggled some with the new rule emphasis, but he still seems to have the quickness and speed he possessed in previous seasons. Several top CBs struggled last season including the likes of Champ Bailey. As the season progressed Glenn seemed to have a better grasp on the rule, and what merited a flag. I feel that he would have performed well if he stayed with us this season, but he's with the Cowboys now and he'll perform well for them instead.

Glenn was a huge loss, not only cause what he did one the field, but also what he did off the field. I just feel another season with Dunta playing under Glenn would of kept the pressure off of him for one more year. Also Glenn would of done wonders for P. Buch., you can't do nothing but to look up to guys like Glenn. Arron Glenn was a professional in every sense of the word. I still like the fact that were starting to make the transistion from the "expansion defense" to our defense that we have built through the draft and free agency. I'm not buying the "its going to take time to gel" excuse. We only have one new lb playing and Greenwood is a vetern. When Peek was on the field did yall really see any chemistry problems, cause all I saw was a guy that made plays. Buchanon is a cornerback and plays on a island anyways so I really see no gelling there and he'll be playing under our best position coach. T. Johnson most likely will be a backup, learning under 3 proven veterens and by the time one of our Dlineman go down with a injury (We all know its going to happen, thats why this draft choice is looking better and better) T. Johnson will know the system and be ready to go. We were horrible in pressuring the passer, if we can improve in that one area alone, which we should, we will see imediate results. Another reason why I don't buy the "it's going to take time to gel" excuse is because all you have to do is go back and look at our first season. That year we fielded our best defense and all those guys were "drafted" off other teams and for many of them that was their first year playing together.

bb) we are bigger AND faster on our corners,
cc) Peak WAS really underutilized and Johnson is going to light a fire for the veterans
dd) we are too deep at running back to screw up the running game due to injury

ee) a ZONE BLOCKING offense line requires EXPERIENCE to work...and in terms of time we have DOUBLED our experience from last year.

Beside, I have season tickets (my part of funding the team's investment in new players)... and I am NOT going be thinking about losing prior to seeing the first home game and neither is the team's management.

Expectations:

2 young unexpected players will step up due to injury or good play in camp.

Teams we expect to beat looking at schedule now will beat us. 1 due to break out season, 1 due to upset. We are at a point where we should be expected to beat some weaker teams.

Break out year for a 2-4 year player ( Peek, ect..)

There is no reason to think that this team will not make improvements as it has in the last 3 seasons.

Any team that wins 4 divisonal games wins AFC South

I know this is no great prediction. However if 1 of your starters lost early in the season is a superstar it can effect the progress the entire team makes over the season. If starter lost is marginal and replaced by an up and comer this can effect season as well. Managment team is expected to produce THIS year, if they take a step back then heads will roll. Managment knows this and they are betting the rent on this year. Would not be surprised to see a vet FA pick up after June cuts. Might be depth at O Line, DB or LB.

This is the first season I have not been optomistic. I dont really know what to think at this point. I just hope we improve. I know getting better than 7-9 isnt easy, but I think the Texans must improve their record every year.

And im still uncertain about our linebackers. I know the reasons for cutting Sharper, but I would like to still have him.

Hey I know this is a little off topic, but speaking on injuries, our season could of been a disaster last season. Do yall remember the horse collar tackle that is now illegal that Roy Williams used to end like 3 players seasons, including 2 broken legs. Well in the cowboys preseason game I was talking about. Carr is flushed out of the pocket and precedes to rush on a 15 yard gain at the end of the play Roy Williams comes up behind him and preforms his patent leg breaking tackle on Carr where he grabs the shoulder pads from behind and rides the other players legs into the ground. Carr luckly went into a last second half a** slide and was able to free up his legs at the last possible momment. God that would of been a complete dissaster.

The way I feel is that coaching staff hasn't been too off base in what they say so for to date. They've had some tough breakes, and some really good breaks. Caserly is known for his ability to recognise talent, he's drafted numerous pro bowlers, even some that seemed to be a reach at times (Darrel Green). If this staff says that the players we have are upgrades, then I'll trust them untill it is proved otherwise. We have to remember that the players know who's good and who isn't, and the simple fact is that Sharper hasn't been to a pro-bowl with us yet. I feel that with the tackle totals that he's racked up the past 2 seasons, that his game must be lacking somewear that us as fans don't necessarly see.

Nice to see some new guys' perspective with rational optimism. Barring a slew of injuries you have what looks like an easy playoff team. The Texans have one of the best young secondaries in the league, very quick and strong ILB's and fast, powerful OLB's. If the front 7 can get a good push consistently you have a top 10 D, especially if the O can control the ball a little better which it should. With Carr and Dunta the leadership theory goes up in smoke which leaves only the coaching in question. The play it close hope to win at the end and let's take something good away from this loss thinking needs to be vanquished. I don't see how this season could be a disappointment unless the competitive nature just isn't there. I can't see any likelihood of that so it's time to realistically expect a serious playoff run.

Glenn is not a manhandler per se, but he had developed a lot of hand and arm techniques that were affected by the way interference was getting called last year. Also, at least two of the TD's caught "on Glenn" last year were plays IMO the WR should have gotten flagged for offensive interference as the WR was blanketed by Glenn and created space by shoving Glenn with the ball in the air.

come on man NO ONE on here knows how the team will play together come next season i mean we could end up 0-16 or 16-0. This unit may have tons of chemistry and give us a SB in our 4th year as a franchise. Until we see otherwise the glass is not half full its completely full.

i thinl not upgrading the OL will be catastrophic mistake. I also think getting rid of Glenn for PBuch was a bad move. The D has alot of issues at LB and S and CB now. Tough sledding.

Are you serious???? We upgraded our OL tremendously by NOT drafting any OL's high and letting the guys we have on the roster have some time to grow as a unit and become cohesive. As for Glenn, the Texans gave up 33 passing TD's last year. Only GB gave up more. Something had to give. And you have to remember, for most of the season teams picked on D-ROB because he was a rookie(and still led the team in INT's). PB may not be a stellar upgrade this year, but next year he will be. I'm not even going to qualify the "problems at LB and S" with a detailed answer because we are vastly upgraded at those positions(even though S is the same as it was last year). Think before you say those things!!!!!!! And don't take me too seriously!!!!
