I can not stand to go through another Capers and CO. disaster of a season and todays game is a repeat of every mistgake and more made ovedr the last 3 years. Cpaers has got to go and the wimp Carr is next. Let's spend the year dumping off to Davis for 3-4 yards becase we have no pass protection.

Totally fed up and embarassed :tomato:
The Texans are a joke

Mind explaining what Carr has done that is at all "wimpy"?

The first offensive play of the game, he had plenty of protection, and he throws a one yard dumpoff pass to Davis. Wimpy or just SUCKS? You make the call.

There's a difference between playing poorly and being a wimp.

As far as that play, it's a no win situation. No one was open downfield, and the Bills have playmakers in the secondary. If he tries to make a play and it gets picked off, you'll fault him for bad decision-making. If he tries to play it safe and not make the mistake, you'll fault him for not being aggressive. There's no way he can win, but I'm not sure why I should be surprised at that given the history of this board.

Just stop it man...it's because of this same attitude that these inept coaches are still leading this team nowhere but down!!!! :crying:

DD missed a block COMPLETELY on one sack. The defender went RIGHT BY DD and DD didn't even put a hand on him. That was DD's fault.

Another sack, Carr could have looked away from AJ (which he rarely does) and he would have seen our TE to his left...standing undefended after the TE had slipped away from the defender.

I'm tired of the o line bashing. At some point, Carr and other players have to be held responsible for missed blocks, missed open men who are standing at the safety-valve area waiting for the pass, etc., etc.

Carr is overrated. Period. His only great play was diving for the pylon, and we wouldn't have gotten close enogh to the pylon for THAT to happen if we hadn't lucked out with the unnecessary roughness penalty that was a mercy gift from the refs on that drive.

Wake up. Smell the coffee. It ain't just the o line. They can't be perfect, and I frankly think they are frustrated from Carr's poor play and poor decision making. What motivation would YOU have to do a better job of blocking if the QB just can't get it done on a consistent basis?

THEY looked like a bunch of m o r o n s out there today.

But, hey it's just the preseason right? I can't wait for the regular season games to get here. We'll see the REAL Texans, right?

Peyton Manning wouldn't do much better, if any, with this offensive line. It is just the offensive line, and has been for four years.

I didn't expect the Texans to be world beaters. But how they played in the preseason has very little to do with how they're playing today. This is the result of a poor offensive line going up against a great defense... stuff happens sometimes. Game's still not over, though.

I have to partially agree.

1. Carr must go NOW!!!!, Should have never been the starter from the beginning.
2. If Capers can't see the forest for the trees and still thinks Carr is the wonderboy, then he has to go too.
3. If it aint broke, don't fix it. The defense was fine last year and the offense has never worked. Hum, is it the players or the Offensive Coordiator?:um:

For the past few seasons I have been waiting for the coaches to fix the problems, BUT IT'S THE SAME F'ING PROBLEMS EVERY YEAR!!!!!!

What, the o-line looked like **** today? Well no s**t, it's the same POS line and system we had last year!!!

You don't make ANY changes to fix the line and expect different results!?!?!

Something has to change, fire someone, cut someone, I don't care but just do something.

ok as bad as weve played today and believe me we've stunk up the place. we're only 1-0 as are half the teams in the league. granted we'll probably get our a** kicked next week but i'll worry about that later

Pathetic. Absolutely Pathetic. Play calling/Coaching is still junior high level at best. I can not stand to watch Capers with that stupid look on his face and his mouth hanging open any longer. Pathetic :hairpull:

We looked better on opening day. Hard to believe how much of a step we have taken back, just based on this one game. Blame the Oline as much as you want. Carr continues to look at who he is going to throw to, and never stays in the pocket anymore. Understandable after what he went thru the first few years, but now it is causing more sacks.

Three step drop is not the answer. Step in the pocket Dave and trust the routes your receivers run.

Doesn't get any easier with the Steelers coming to town next week. I am not really even that excited, which is very unusual. Guess I just have to look forward to the tailgating.

What a way to start off the season.

Thank God UT won last night.

No, we replaced the young and improving LT with an equivalent LT who is older, peaked, and declining. Wand wouldn't have saved this game by any means, but at least he may be building for the future. In any event, Riley isn't a "win now" replacement.

I've been saying keep Wand in the line-up, but maybe this game shows that he wasn't the root cause of our offensive woes last year, as many thought.

Pendry has now replaced him twice with inferior players, and Pendry can't improve what talent he has.

The thing to keep in mind is that we typically play our best on opening day. Isn't that comforting?

Seems like coaches cant fix the problem because they are the problem. No way the players are this bad.

LOL, he did

Mouth hanging open and the "duh" word came into my head everytime they showed him.

All in all, they did try TOny Boselli, and they DID TRY to get Orlando Pace.

Just...........just........well just....

Dang EDO, you failed to see the bright side of the situation - I think we're gonna get one of those stud LTs in next years college Draft. Actually, we might get the pick of the litter.
But this isn't on DC. He made plenty of mistakes, but made some plays to.
This is on the OL, no doubt about. Its really surprising how poorly they played, after all we've been thru and after all the promises that there was
going to be some improvement with the OL this year !

Carr is scared. Period. But tell the truth, what human wouldnt be. If I got sacked more in three years then some QBs get sacked in 7 or 8 Id run too. And if i threw strikes to WRs and they let it hit their elbow, or played soft and dropped a pass after being hit, Id lock on to the pro-bowler too, but hey thats why we suck.

Fldvldog said:
So will you guys be looking for Vince Young or Omar Jacobs in the draft?

VY is the future of this team.

But knowing this organization they'll trade down for a long snapper because Carr's feelings would be hurt if they drafted a QB.

And stud left tackle fixes our offense?

The excuses that we are sure to hear from Capers are; turnovers, and lack of execution.
The turnovers yielded field goals, and the lack of execution includes the play calling. You can blame the O-line, Carr, or Palmers play calling all you want, but when we are constantly in 2nd or 3rd and long, we are a very predicable offense. On our scoring drive, we ran on first down ZERO times. Of the rest of the drives we ran on first down more than 75% of the time.
Our first down play calling is way too predictable, on second and long we don't have time to throw the ball. Our talent on this team is not as bad as was shown today. We are not in position to succeed due to our conservative, unimaginative play calling.:twocents:

:brickwall

That was as "offensive" of a performance as I have seen...and not in a good way. If they go less that 9-7, it has to be time for a coaching change, and that change MUST be someone who doesn't get OT and DT mixed up on his draft scouting report, and select a 2nd string DT.

BTW, the Tackle (Jammal Brown) that the Saints got with their pick that they got from Houston is their starter at RT, and Alex Barron is second team LT behind Orlando Pace. I am of the opinion that either one of these would have won the starting LT spot.

Last Line of the Texans Game Plan: "If we find something that works, let's be sure we don't use it more than once."

actually the defense ranked lower than the offense last year... so I can understand why they're trying to fix it.

agreed.

What will be fun for me tonight is listeining to CC & DC put lipstick on this pig. I haven't seen a Houston pro football team play like that in about twenty three years. I'm still waiting for Kevin Green from Babins. Too may bad personel decisions. The players are stealing money from Mr. McNair. Somebody has to be held accountable. What was the name of that LT again ?

Weeeeeel, the display of professional football was laughingly embarassing on our end at best today. To say we sucked is an understatement. I think someone forgot to tell our team we are not in pre season anymore. Very sophomoric attempt at pro level football. C'mon boys, you are much better than this! I still have faith, but something needs to change or it will be a LONG season. My laundry list has been posted by my fellow fans many times over, so there is no need for me to :deadhorse .

Now for some positive feedback. The wings were darn tasty at Wings 'n More. Beer was ice cold Shiner and sure hit the spot. Met new fans. Great time spent with Texans fans, wish I could say the same about watching our team play.

Indeed. He looks exactly like Jack Pardee walking around the sideline with a set of disconnected headphones on. In Doms case though he has his notepad to write down important things. As much as he's written on them you would think if it made any difference we'd see it by now.

Everyone does realize that IF Capers gets canned tonight, chances slim to nil, that would leave Palmer or Vangio as the interm HC. Or lets say Palmer gets fired, Capers is calling the O. Don't expect anyone to get fired till after the season.

We are :deadhorse and so is Carr ... Remember he asked that they address the O-line .... Casserly and Capers didnt and look at the huge mess they have on their hands now ..... D'Brickashaw Ferguson anyone ?

I have been a fan since the beginning but usually just hang back and read everyone’s comments. I could not see the game but listened to it on the net and man was this painful. I was in Carolina when the Panthers started up and what Capers can do with great players is only mediocre and we do not have to many great players any more. Capers has shown to be a good defensive coach and maybe he should stay there. As far as Palmer I don’t think he has shown to be good at any level. It is time to make some changes and if any one thinks that a 5 year plan will ever happen they are crazy. :embarrass

I thought Riley played well. Why just bash the LT? most of our pressure was up the middle like last year. I saw Wells and DD miss critical blocks as well.

Does the 5 year plan include starting over at year 5? The players obviously have talent and are attempting to execute the coaches plan. Seems like the plan is setting them up for failure.

That just about sums it up.

I would say a good start would be replacing the o coordinator. If you're able to sit at home and be able to call the plays the same as he does, then what is he there for? I mean they are supposed to know more than we are right? I think the defense did the best they could with the amount of time they were forced to be on the field (offense gaining a little over a hundred yards). It's still early enough to make some small changed in personel. They have speedy receivers, a great runningback crew, and a quarterback if given a little more than average time to throw can be great.

I'm not bashing only the LT, or saying it was all his fault. The whole team seemed mired in something. I thought it was ridiculous last year and this pre-season when people claimed Wand was the whole problem last year. I've certainly taken my fair share of bashing when I claimed Riely wasn't an upgrade. I think he was no better than Wand would have been this game, and maybe worse. His guy chased Carr a lot too.

As far as Riley playing well, I wouldn't go that far. I do think that sometimes he isn't running the same line call as Pitts. I saw that in the last pre-season game on one specific play, and maybe a couple of times today. I don't claim to "grade tape" like some around here and come to simplistic solutions. For instance the first sack (on the 3rd offensive play!) was on a stunt where the end made the tackle. I don't blame Pitts or Riley individually, I think they aren't familiar enough with each other to know what they each were going to do. Wand and Pitts would have made that block.

I've been lambasted frequently on this board when I've given my opinion that Wand was not the problem with the line, and I'm just pointing out that the guy they replaced him with isn't better, and with Wand gone the line still played poorly. So now we're wasting Wand's learning curve of last year, stopping him from making that 2nd to 3rd year improvement that Pitts made, and messing with line cohesion - all for no reason, since Riley isn't better.

You've got to go with the guy who can improve and get play longer if they are the same skill level. C'mon - Riley can't even keep the wieght off!

I think Coach Pendry:

a) makes poor personnel decisions
b) can't make his lineman any better

I've seen at the training camp practices I was lucky enough to go to that he's a good yeller; I've yet to see he's a good coach. I think he, rather than any individual player, is the biggest problem with the O-line.

There are already posts saying that we'll get a stud left tackle next year. How much improvement would that bring, given the coach/players/schemes we saw today?

I didn't think Wand was the 'big' problem last year either. I do think Riley is a superior run blocker than Wand is right now though. Pass blocking may be a push, but Riley has a ton of experience and has a more temperamental disposition from what I can see. I don't think Riley is anything but a short term patch at LT though. I have to watch the game again but I don’t think I saw much breakdown on the edge. Most of our problems were up the middle and switching when blitzed. That’s a combination of problems from coaching to poor execution/talent.

I've quoted myself, and now Victor Riley:

"There are so many (blitzes) and there is so much communication," said left tackle Victor Riley, the only new starter on the line this season. "When you're in an away stadium, you might miss a call, and if one person misses a call then it messes up the whole protection."

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3349457

I'll give Riley credit - at least he'll step up and admit a problem and take responsibility. That's more than I've seen out of others. I'd heard he was decent guy.
