This draft...

Errant Hothy

Hypermediocrity
...is shaping up to be one of the poorest drafts in the last five years. Very few underclasman are declaring, and if Leinart dosn't come out then there may be no clear cut Number 1 this year. There are a couple of deep positons (CB, maybe WR, maybe LB (only csue of DJ)) but even then none of the top guys at those postions would have been clear cut top players at their postion last year. The draft is espically weak (at the top) were we need the most help, both lines.

Finding some of the players we need is going ot prove to be difficult in teh draft. Meaning that any significant improvement will have to come in FA, and even then is there really that many good FA out there?

With the talent in this draft rapidly thinning, trading out of the first for picks nextyear may be the best course of action.

I know this is all "doomand gloom"; it's just that I'm not as excited going into this offseason like I have been the last three years.

With that opinion of the draft and FA, the only real good that can come from this offseason is that the Oline is healthy and may get a chance to finally have the same players playing the same position for the first time in team history which could lead to good chemistry.

No matter how deep or weak you think the draft is , there is always some talent to be gotten so, you have to think of it positively, hay its better that the JRs are staying in school this year and help make a very deep draft next year. Then we will still have real talent at the bottom of the 1st round(where the Texans will be drafting next year.

Next year's draft is shaping up to be an above average draft, but this years top tier talent is very thin; none of it falling to the 13th pick and very little of it worth the 13th pick. The reason I'm down on this draft is the team is nearing playoff contender status; but a weak draft will slow that progress.

Not really, there is not a position where i expected the Texans to find a guy that is an automatic starter like the first three years. Also, I like this draft becuase Casserly and his scouting department will earn their money if they are able to figure which of the non-obvious guy can be a contributor to the Texans.

Sometimes it's hard to judge how deep or shallow a draft is unless there's an obvious absence of players at a certain position. 1999 was supposed to be one of the best high end QB crops in recent years. Six QBs were selected in the first 50 picks - five in the first 12 picks. But now that enough time has passed and we know that four of those six QBs were named Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, and Shaun King, was it really a quality QB draft or a total mis-read by so called experts? And then there was 1983.
