The Reffs cheating us is getting old

The refs did an excellent job almost the entire game. This was one of the better games called by refs this season.

The only mistake was the botched incomplete pass call. That was a fumble. Daniels turned up field & took 2 steps before the Jag knocked the ball out.

The Carr hit was clean. I know we all wanna stand up & defend our guy but the Jag got there really close to the ball & he hit Carr in the shoulder, which is legal. He put his head down but he hit with his arms first, so he wasnt leading with the helmet.

I love instant replay. It is a great idea. But it isnt working that well so far. The refs are too afraid to overturn a blown call & they hardly ever pay attention to the "evidence" rule. You cant overturn a call cuz you think it is wrong. You have to know.

Overall they called a good game but that Daniels play at the end really sticks out as a mistake.

(Bumping this up to repeat a question I asked earlier in this post.)

When a play is challenged, does the sideline replay official view the very same videos as shown to the TV audience?

I'm not asking for anyone's assumption or opinion as to what they think is the answer. I'm looking for a source or link that definately answers it one way or another. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There were a few bad calls in the game. I wish they could get them right, but at least there were bad calls on both sides of the ball. I'm still bitter about wasting my time watching the Super Bowl back in January. I haven't seen that many one-sided bad calls in a game since the Falcons/Oilers game back in 1990 (Glanville's first with Atlanta).

Marcus this is the only link that I've been able to find with an explanation of the replay rule. It states in that link that the ref ONLY gets what the replay official(booth) decides to give him...AND the ref doesn't control the speed. The booth controls not only the video that the on-field ref sees, but the speed in which he sees it. So, although I can't possibly figure out WHY in this world they WOULDN'T slow it down and give the Ref the best possible view...but it is possible. And that is of course IF you believe the website. And I looked for a while last night...this was the best site I could find. Sounds credible, but who knows?
Thanks Luv for the response. Your link was the best one I've seen.

I have an issue with the statement . . .

"The system begins with the replay booth receiving a "live" feed from the network television control truck covering the game"

According to Tim Ryan of NFL Sirius Radio, that "live feed" is NOT what is being replayed to the TV audience while the sideline official is under the hood. He got this info from Art McNally, the head of the referees. I can't see an instance where a national radio commentator would purposely misquote an official without it coming back to bite him.

Now, if this is the case, you have to ask WHY?

WHY wouldn't the sideline official be allowed to view the same tape as network is showing the audience, in slow motion, from different angles?

WHY don't the the TV announcers inform the audience that the replay official is not looking at the same views as the audience?

But, if this is indeed the case, then it makes perfect sense why these calls are not being overturned. But to give the audience the assumption that the officials are looking at the same tape as the viewers, leads me to think that this is designed to fail . . to make the officials look like fools . . . probably from the element that was against instant replay from the start.

instant review has been flawed since inclusion into the NFL, they have never figured out how to perfect the process. I would like to see it dropped, completely, to me all it does now is break the natural flow of the football game & not overturn some terrible injustice. Remembering the ol' days, classics like Cowboys vs. Steelers I would hate to have seen those affected by a system that fails like it does now on a weekly basis. the game is more pure in its basic form with calls (right or wrong) that stand on the field from the officials who are doing their best to call the game live :stirpot:

he took 2 steps after the ball was released and then hit him. I agree that he did not lead with his helmet, but I have seen way less called.

Well duh.

Ya'll didnt hear about the new rule for next year?

Roughing the Passer will be defined as:

If a defender hits the QB below the belly button.
If a defender hits the QB above the shoulder pads.
If a defender leads with his body instead of his hands.
If a defender knocks the QB to the ground.

This is just a joke, but I will probably be proved right at the next owners meeting.

Thats funny

the refs aren't cheating us....they just suck this year, more than ever it seems. Too many tweaks to the rules and too much focus on the refs over the years have hurt the NFL game imo. Hell, look what all this tweaking has done to the College game this season alone. Officiating is at an all time low right now....overofficious jerks!

First - as a rule, I do not blame refs for the outcome of a game. If a bad call makes the difference in the score, than the losing team should have made more plays and not let that be the difference.

Second - I feel like John Kerry on the instant replay. I was for it, before I was against it....

For replay: Renfro's catch ruled incomplete in Pittsburgh. I wanted it back then thinking that it would have rectified that play giving the Oilers a TD.. (However the ruling on the field would not have been overturned - Renfro did not make a "football move":ok: )

Against replay: well, Daniels incompletion... Afterall, since 3 1/2 to 4 steps up the field is not a "football move" why take the flow out of the game for 2-3 minutes?

The replay in its current form is a failure... Can't wait for the pre-game show tonight to see how the Head of Officiating spins it this week.....
