The Reality: Half full?

You know, Ive been reeling over the past few days because it seems like no matter what we do, it seems like there could be a better situation. If we draft VY and Bush has a better 1st year, people will clamor about how we should've taken him. If VY has a better year and we draft Bush, the same will happen. Leinart/hawk/D'brick should all be included in there too.

The optimism? No matter who we choose, we will be getting one of the surest college players in I can't think of how many past drafts. Alex Smith, last years first pick, may turn out to be a huge bust. No matter who we choose (Bush, Young, Leinart, Hawk, Ferguson) we are pretty much guarnateed an above average NFL caliber starter. And with our new coaching staff, hopefully we can develop whoever it is we pick into a superstar.

VY is a great leader and will undoubtedly make a huge impact on an NFL team sometime during his career.

Bush is a proven playmaker and is an exciting to watch, and will also make a huge impact on an NFL team.

Leinart, Hawk, Ferguson, will also serve important roles during their various careers. So no matter who we choose, be excited, because we are pretty much guarnateed a difference maker. This draft reminds me of the NBA draft when LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Carmello all came out i nthe same year.

Vince is not Darko, you can't compare a nba player to a NFL player. If a #2 ovrl pick in the NBA is sitting on the bench then obviously the coach thinks he isn't going to work out and it was a misused pick (even with Flip Darko can't get playing time, he's a bust). When a QB sits on the bench its because his team doesn't want to throw him into the fire and wants to develop him, especially when there is a grizzley vet in front of him (Titans). Actually Darko was never supposed to come in and play immediately. He was very young and extremely raw, but scouts thought that he was going to be the next Dirk Nowitzki. He got in Larry Brown's dog house and his career is probably over now because he never developed.

actually its not that scouts didn't think he wouldn't play early (which I don't know why you would take a "project" player #2 in the draft when Carmelo and Wade are sitting behing him) and he didn't get into Larry's dog house, its just the fact that Larry doesn't play rookies (to much of the old college coach in him) with that Detroit has had plenty of blowouts for him to show something and his teamates have no confidence in him and as long as he is on that loaded team he might as well go back overseas, hes never going to get playing time. The pistons need to deal him and get him out of there.

The FO probably would have been thrilled a year ago if they knew D'Brick would end up a Texan. Now they have the chance to not only get him but most likely an extra 2nd this year and next year if not a 1st next year on top of it. Now there's a really good running back who catches too who we're going to give all that up for. You want to talk about a fallout what if Bush isn't Superman and without good blocking good luck. This is their chance to land SEVERAL really good players they probably couldn't have ever imagined having a chance for and it seems they may want to take what I would consider a bigtime gamble in drafting Bush in that he isn't the answer now. In all likelihood he will be a great player. He's just not a luxury they can afford with so many holes, especially when the return for him could help turn the whole team around in a hurry, instead of waiting until 07' and beyond for help in the trenches. Yes it's good to know the team is going to land a bigtime player but they could really parlee this thing into something special if they do what they planned on along and get some extra talent in the process.

I'll answer that seeing as I'm on the Trade Down Bandwagon. Sure we aren't guaranteed of anything that represents a quality starter in the draft if we trade down. But my only answer to that is the fact that i want to get value for money. Im not seeing the benefit of $(insert Bush or Young's salary) when we could trade down and use some of that money on another pick for a spot on the D side of the ball for instance or FA...

Also again we aren't guaranteed a great talent immediately by trading down sure, but other teams have done it, Dallas and New England are the 1st 2 teams that come to mind. There are other teams I'm sure as well. My reply to that is ... their FO's know what they are doing obv a lil' better than ours does is all

Here is a list of last year's 4TH Round. There is a major emergence of younger talent entering the league and having an impact more quickly. CC has done some messed up stuff but saying "can you get equal talent in the 2nd and 3rd for PBurnt, ...no" was perhaps the most faulty. Foxworth alone for Denver was taken in the 3rd and he looks way better. In the 4th here are most notably Orton, Fuller, Barber, Jacobs, Mathis, Sproles, Canty, and several other role players and developing lineman. A very high percentage of these players will become fixtures on their teams for years to come. If you look in the 3rd you will see even more guys making big impacts. In addition this year's draft is even deeper than last year's so the chances of reeling in some bigtime talent in the middle rounds becomes much greater, not to mention the 2nd and 3rd which is where we would get another pick or two if we traded down. Yes nothing is a sure thing but with such great talent coming out it would be more than prudent to take advantage of this dream scenario we will most likely never get again.
