The NFL defensive buzzword this year will be "hybrid." Seattle won a Super Bowl with a hybrid-type defense and, in a copycat league, more and more teams will be using those multiple looks. From quarter to quarter and play to play, defenses change their fronts and their looks.

"The multiplicity and complexity of the game has changed," Falcons coach Mike Smith said. "Rarely from week to week offensively do you see the same formations. And now week to week defensively, you don't see the same alignments. What do you call a team with nobody with their hand on the ground, which some teams are doing? What do you call a team with defensive linemen dropping out? Everybody is multiple."

I remember a few years ago when we were playing the Niners. And the Niners DC had a bunch of notes and the commentators were looking over his shoulder and saw them. And in big letters was "12" and the commentators were like "Wow. They're really worried about Jacoby Jones!"

And I was like...

The 1st number is for the backs,2nd is for tes. So 22 personel is 2 backs 2 tes which means 1 wr.10 personel is 1 back 0 tes and 4 wrs. They don't number designate the wr cause they figure you can add and subtract.

In terms of buzzwords of multiple and hybrid,teams have been saying that for awhile. When RAC was the dc in ne,multiple was used a lot. Because they had a guy like jarvis gren on the bench and 2 jokers like vrabel and willie,it allowed them to change fronts in game. If they played a team with a midline passer,they would play more 4-3 front,but wen they played a more mobile qb and wanted better athletes on the field,they played more 3-4. That's why I truly think a lot of guys are in play for the texans defensively.
