The New New JaDeveon Clowney Thread

Decleated Brady.

Looked like he was shot out of a canon & unloaded on 12

Clowney has seriously impressed me this season.

And the Bengals game when the receiver evaded our DBs for the TD. Hell, Clowney was outrunning our safeties and corners trying to catch him. That was when I realized what an amazing athlete he is.

Here's to him staying healthy and knocking the slobber outa some QBs and RBs next year.

Clowney was selected First Team by PFW:

I won't be surprised if he's voted a team captain next season.
You bet could happen. Yea he was fired up along the Texans' sideline Saturday night in New England and teammates like that but he also seems composed and I don't think he's got any real bone-head penalties so far ? That roughing the passer he was tagged with vs Brady is just the league placating its superstar QB after he bitched incessantly when JD & teammates had already popped him pretty good a couple times. When you go against Brady especially in the POs you know the officials are right there with him.

Clowney served up an awful lot of crow for a lot of people this year. I'm proud of him and happy for him.

Have all you (former) haters eaten your crow yet?

He hasn't served up any crow for having a big season in year three. By #1 draft pick standards he has still been a bad investment. I'd still take Khalil Mack in a heartbeat.

That doesn't mean that he didn't have a great season though. He played really well and more importantly got better as the season went on. He should be set for a big year next year and that can even out the first two years a little easier hopefully. I still think that he'll have continual health problems limiting his availability. I just hope that we can get at least one more monster season out of him.

I'm talking to the haters who questioned his work ethic and motor. I don't hold injuries against a player, for the most part. If JD never had a monster season due to his knee, I would've labeled him unlucky, not a bust. Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, that GB tackle in the 90's, Luke Joekel, those are busts to me. Oh yeah, and David Carr, because he didn't put in the time and effort required for the position.

The GB tackle was Tony Mandarich . He was a monster and I believe he was taken right after Troy Aikman and before Barry Sanders and maybe Prime Time . He signed a contract and showed up about 25 lbs lighter with boobage .

1 Dallas Cowboys Troy Aikman QB UCLA
2 Green Bay Packers Tony Mandarich OT Michigan State
3 Detroit Lions Barry Sanders RB Oklahoma State
4 Kansas City Chiefs Derrick Thomas LB Alabama
5 Atlanta Falcons Deion Sanders CB Florida State
6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Broderick Thomas LB Nebraska

The Oilers took David Williams OT of babygate fame .

Right on DocBar. I mean by some peoples standard JJ Watt was a bust last year because his production was way off even though it was because of injuries. Lets face it some folks just can't admit it when they are wrong, I mean we all make our share of mistakes and some just find it harder than others to admit it.
Personally speaking I know I thought we'd pulled off a real slicker, a real coup this time last year when we swooped in and grabbed Oswieler away from Elway & the Broncos and wow was I wrong about that one.

God that word has been overused especially this past weekend by Cowboys fans.

I'm with you on the Os coupe. I'm still glad the only thing gambled away was McNair's money and not draft picks.

You're welcome.

Clowney has pulled out of the Pro Bowl.........supposedly because of his elbow/wrist injury situation..........
Don't blame him. Who the hell wants to go to Orlando?

The no fun league needs to move it back to Hawaii where getting to go there felt like something special.

Hey...Orlando is fun.

In all seriousness, the pro bowl should be about the game, not the venue. I not think a pro bowl game will ever inspire most players to take it seriously. Hell, the NBA All-Star game isn't a play-hard experience either. When games don't matter, especially in a contact sport, it's not going to be entertainment.

Well, it is only an exhibition game. And they don't make much; $56K for the winners/$26K for the losers. Compared to their salaries - especially the vets - that's nothing. Hell, they fine guys that much for having their shirts untucked. LoL

That doesn't even cover their tab at the Cheesecake factory.

Actually, the strip clubs here are poor. Go 3.5 hours south for that trip.

Did not in anyway mean to imply blaming Clowney for not playing in the ProBowl. Just that his elbow/wrist is the convenient excuse. I believe any elite player that plays in that game would benefit more appropriately from Psychiatric rather than Orthopedic treatment.........

I've enjoyed the Pro Bowl in the past. Just watching all the top athletes have a fun scrimmage is entertaining. The way they did it last year was an improvement.

:spit:
That actually made me laugh out loud.

It just never gets old. Amazing.

During Clowney's first preseason I called his potential Lawrence Taylor, for this reason. That is literally the only other player that I could think of that went from Zero to Mach 40 in his first step. Clowney will be in his late 20's before his hands show up on a consistent basis, and is never going to have hips like Demarcus Ware. What he does have is a great mind and is currently healthy enough to have relocated Zero to Mach 40 in a single step. Oh and he plays the run like his arms are 12ft long and made of titanium, when not reading the play/player pre-snap. Mario Williams could've been really good if he put the work in, but he was 'dumb and lazy' as polite as I can put it. Clowney could stand next to Watt on the podium because of his mind and work ethic ... if he defies the odds and stays healthy.

Healthy ... the only word keeping Clowney from having an NFL Films hit tape all to himself.

I will never truly never get tired of watching this. It may actually become required viewing before I'm able to fall asleep at night.

There's an "all-time" highlight reel of plays I like to go back over. AJ rolling over all those Cardinals to get into the endzone, Foster making Polamalu briefly look his age, Duane Brown trucking James Harrison, and of course JJ snatching that Dalton pass out of the air. AJ beating down Finnegan gets on there too just because.

Clowney just got on the all-time Texans highlight reel IMO. Did I miss anybody? Has Hopkins had his moment yet?

Nuk's best catch was better than OBJ's one handed TD catch...sadly Nuk's was thrown out of bounds and didn't count. The potential is there.

Now that I think about it I believe Clowney got on it twice this past weekend because he did a "JJ" and picked Brady on a tip too. Maybe he didn't flat out nab it out of the air like on JJ's pick-six but it was still pretty impressive.

I thought about the Nuk non-catch. It would belong on there and may still just for the pure display of talent.

Stolen by the referees and Beckham's rookie catch, Hopkins had possibly the greatest catch of all time. Edit: I'm not sure what catch was mentioned 2 minutes ahead of me, but mine was across the middle on a 30+ yard throw that he torqued to high point an impossible one handed catch in traffic.

I'm almost certain that TK has this clip.

You're right. I was thinking a different one. Here's the one you're talking about:

Here's another highlight reel catch:

But yeah Clowney was good this year. I hope he's in beast mode next year!

Hawaii lost it for a good reason. Their handling of the event last year was atrocious. Having attending the event, I can attest that it was horribly managed.

one of my favourite moments is an AJ touchdown from HOU@WAS 2010, with the texans down 20 they manage to tie the game and win in OT

the play itself is nothing special, but in that context it was a great moment.

plus the celebration was really cool

also, this was my first game as a texan so I might be biased.

Clowney touched Brady too hard.............and got an $18,000 fine..............that goes to prove that no doubt Clowney's got that "special" touch that others would give their eye teeth for.........

I saw that crap.
I wonder if he'd hit Cam Newton like that would there have been a fine.

Defensive MVP: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, Houston Texans

When the Texans put J.J. Watt on injured reserve after three games, Houston needed someone to step up as a playmaker on the defensive line. Clowney moved from outside linebacker to defensive end and provided the necessary spark. In five games against the AFC South this season, Clowney had three sacks and provided one of the biggest plays of the season. Read the full vote.

This award for JD is at the division level, in other words he was named the AFC Souths defensive MVP of 2016. But still pretty sweet little award for a fellow who's been labeled a bust. Oh gosh did I just go there, that was petty of me but I couldn't help it ?

Brady should be fined for how he talks to the refs in game.

I was thinking the same thing.

Most teams beg officials for a little leniency on defense. Offensively they're asking for a call.

The Patriots will give the referees a proper tongue lashing if a call doesn’t go their way. Even the new guy Chris Hogan was out there abusing the referees.

I wonder if that's taught.

I can see how that could subliminally change the way officials call the game. Deep down, no one wants to be dressed down in front of millions for doing something wrong.

I know officials should have thick skin, but they are human & I'm talking about it affecting the calls & no calls that could go either way. Stack enough of them in favor of one team or another it could be a small advantage.
