The draft is nearly upon us and it's time to have a simple place to dump out all the players that you just really like. For one reason or another.
Here's mine:
Taliese Fuaga
My favourite tackle in the class. Incredibly powerful, he bullies the bullies. I almost feel like he gets underrated because he gets called a "run blocker" because he absolutely destroys people in the run game but it carries a stigmatism that he's therefore not a great pass protector. He is. He bring an all around package with genuine A+ skills in certain categories. Also big ups to Trevor Sikkema who was the first one I heard talking about this guy during the year. He took over the PFF draft portion from Mike Renner (who I don't like at all) and while the PFF draft stuff will never be perfect Trevor is a big upgrade over Mike.
Bucky Irving
He's my Tank Dell of the draft. The dude just gets it and plays really well. The tape is excellent and the only real downsides are his listed weight and the fact he didn't put up amazing combine numbers - I don't care I'll take the tape all day.
Junior Colson
I feel like he gets super slept on with Cooper and Wilson getting all the attention. He's a classic Mike LB with all the skills for the position and is good in coverage. What's not to like?
Jordan Magee
Similar to Irving where the tape is actually really good, but the size and weight aren't what you necessarily want. Again, I don't care. The tape shows him playing the position better than the bigger guys.
Johnny Wilson
Maybe it's just the games I watched but every time I watched Florida State Johnny Wilson impressed me. He was always the one making something happen. I thought it would be the "contested catch god" Coleman that everyone was talking about (and was the reason I was watching Seminoles games early in the season) that would be the safety blanket and go to guy on third downs and tricky situations, but no, time and again it was Wilson. People say he should be a tight end but I don't really agree, he's a big slot all day every day for me.
Leonard Taylor III & Michael Hall Jr.
These two are much more Texans specific but I think what they bring and do well could be really maximized in Demeco's attack front defense.
Also random shoutout:
Laiatu Latu
Just felt like I had to add him because he's a great example of the overthinking I see sometimes around the draft and the prospects. This guy is an insanely good edge. He is edge #1 all day every day. If he's not I think you're overthinking it. Just like people were overthinking Will Anderson Jr. last year and how the Jags overthought Travon Walker over Aiden Hutchinson.
