The Last Picture Show....er....preseason game

Hairston with the penalties is showing up…in a bad way.

And let’s credit Nick for signing a guy off the street in Akers. Former 2nd rounder with a lot of talent..land major injury history. when you think about not one but two Achilles injuries and making moves like that? Unfreaking real. He has to make this team, and should be the clear #2 back. If Mixon went down, I’d be entirely comfy with Akers starting.

I’d take Brooks then. Texans need a RB-FB more than a WR-FB and Skow hasn’t impressed me at all. It just seems to me that all of Brooks have been quality, running and blocking.
I agree. I think they were already excited to have him as RB depth, probably on the PS. Now, he has shown enough to give them a reaso5n to actually protect him on the 53.

Cephes and Johnnie Johnson showing up big time but there is no room at the inn for either. If they make it through waivers, I’d stash both on the PS but I don’t know if either is going to sneak through.

Blasphemy. Nick better be working the phones. That’s worst case scenario :roast:

Hairston isn’t making a great case today all in all. He’s done some decent things but four flags..

Beck is injury prone and he’s not great although has some value on teams.

So there is a door cracked open for Brooks IF they remake him as a FB with versatility. He’s most definitely an interesting prospect. My thing is experience. He took few snaps in college. Will DeMeco trust him to protect CJ? I still say it’s a bit of a longshot…

DeMeco came in and said the players that produced are the players who would play, in no way has Pierce done that over basically everyone else on the depth chart. If Pierce makes this team Meco wasn't honest unless he's just Superman in practices we don't see. I'd take the game day playmaker over the practice standout every day of the week.

He will. I still think Akers is playing to give comfort to the decision to cut Pierce. They need a vet at 2.
Pierce will surely be traded, cut, or IR stashed... right? I mean, this team has so much depth at so many positions. It wouldn't make sense to cut so many players that deserved to make this roster and then have a glaring hole at our primary backup RB.

Fair. I haven’t been to practices have you? Or anybody on this forum who could elaborate? All I can evaluate is film viewed. From what I see, he’s the complimentary power back to Mixon, Akers (Pierce?) not Dare who is a special teams ace. Ideally Jordan (Ackers back-up) off waivers on PS.

Going back to what I said in thread Texans need multiplicity in backfield. Different, yet complimentary backs to work defenses underneath. Hoping for a game breaker in next years draft.

Brooks has no experience guys. Your going to be disappointed. Hes not making the opening 53. He’s got a future but it’s not yet. Patience young padwan.
Name a rookie RB who has NFL experience. I get it that you're probably talking about playing FB, but I would keep Brooks over Pierce all day, every day. Brooks averaged 5 y/c today. Pierce has a long of 3 yds and 1.1 y/c after averaging 2.9 y/c in 2023. That's not what one calls improvement.

Has anyone heard DeMecos post game presser? I tried to watch it but there were problems with the video. Hope he was questioned about DP.

Can someone bring me up to speed? Did Pierce even play and if not, why not?

He was but he gave a very short answer to the Pierce question. He says they had seen all they needed to see in practice.
DeMeco seemed drained, emotionally and physically as much as his players fighting to make roster. He knows, what tough discussions are in order next couple of days to cut roster down. Very difficult job indeed so best wishes to all, hoping front office make best business decisions.
