The draft should not have been about VInce or Bush it shoud have been Carr or Davis

The problem with this years draft is that the topic should have never been Young or Bush it should have been Carr or Davis. Rewind back to the extension for Carr. People were so focused on wether or not to stick with Carr and see if he could come out of this comatose crappy QB syndrome, or if we should let him go and bring in a Vetran to groom Vince. This should have never been the discussion, the discussion should have been KEEP CARR, BRING IN BUSH, LOOSE DOMANICK or DROPP CARR, KEEP DOMANICK AND BRING IN VINCE. What has happend is people do not look at the big picture. We will not be able to keep both Bush and Domanick the strain on the cap will not hold. Domanick is a proven NFL back. He put up numers with that same o-line that Carr could not. Domanick Davis should have been the one who was rewarded and Carr should have been hanging out at Fresno making weekend trips to Oregon to hang out with Joey Harrington. Now people are dead set on taking Bush to roll with Carr but hey, when David Carr falls to the ground every time a D-Lineman is 4 feet away it makes it real hard for Reggie Bush to make those highlite-reel catches, and with the DE bringing the outside rush every play because they know Carr folds under pressure, Bush is going to have to run betwen the tackes and he is going to have a lot of trouble and that little 5'10 200 lb frame he has working for him is going to take a beating like he has never had before.

Strangely this actually makes sense. Even though DD did get hurt he did still produce.

Carr didn't get hurt but I'm still not sure what it is he does well. We knew when they didn't fire CC though Carr was staying. Those two are linked at the hip.

I think this is what Reeves was brought in for and he decided Carr was worth Keeping. And the discussion is not about getting rid of DD, because you can have more than one Running Back on the field at one time. The Debate would have been keep Carr, Davis and add Bush, or Get Vince and use DD as the main back.( Trading Carr and not getting Bush).

The national media didn't cover this much because it wasn't an exciting topic for them. I think they'd much rather talk about highly-rated draft prospects than two very players who don't garner much interest on a national level who play for a team that doesn't garner much interest on a national level.

But here, on the Texans board, we went round and round over this. David Carr's option was a hot topic the entire season, and it reached a boiling point after Capers was fired.

I don't know if I agree with this line of thinking completely. I think it would be more accurate to say we can't keep Carr, Davis, and Bush. However, we aren't in as much dire straights if Carr fails as people might think. There are always QBs in the draft and there are always veterans ready to come and do a serviceable job. If you set up your offense with two good WRs, a good TE, and two good backs you set the situation perfectly for either Carr to succeed or someone else to come in and succeed immediately.

Part of the debate over taking Carr first to begin with was never about his skills but about how long it would take for the team to be built around him and whether he would last that long. Since the team either didn't build the offensive line correctly or because they were coached down we are right in that situation that we debated before the 2002 draft. If we are able to take a lineman with one of those first four picks we will have an offense ready made for someone to succeed. If it isn't Carr than it could be someone else.

If Carr fails then I can see a scenario where we dump him and pick up an inexpensive veteran. Davis and Bush could average 35 carries between with the veteran only throwing the ball only 20 to 25 times a game. In that scenario it isn't bad to have two handsomely paid backs. The problem as we stand now is that we have possibly two good backs, a franchise QB, and highly paid recievers. One of those will have to go.
