The Brawl

I liked the fight because it ( fight ) , Winston , and beating them twice in a row , make them think twice when they line up against the Texans . They play with a chip on their shoulder and when you knock it off and beat them ... they ain't so tough .

If we get players suspended so what , the offense was on the field . The defense should come out with enough ferocity to hold the Jags or the Raiders under 20 no matter who's out there .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzn5d0dBLIU

Actually I think you make a good point here. The fight got the players fired up and had them wanting to win a lot more.

If only the Texans could have fights like these all of the time, then maybe we could be a lot more intense and gritty football team. Maybe we should just bring some player on our roster who will start up some **** with other teams every week early on and get us into a brawl so our players will finally understand that they are in a football game. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that sounds stupid and all, but hey we need some attitude and some grit on this team. They had it after that brawl.

The bully got punched and now he is crying to the principal because someone wouldnt let him beat them up. Thats all MCM quote reveals.

"Dont poke the Bull...you will get the horns"

Best case scenario: Amobi Okoye and Jacoby Jones get multiple game suspensions!

.. Imagine not having to worry about Jones muffing a punt for the next 3 weeks.

... we go from a awful to a mediocre run defense with Okoye out of the lineup!

or catching another touchdown...
sometimes I just don't understand you guys' logic

So you want us to have our own Cortland Finnegan??

 Bob might trade our "hoodlums" before the trading deadline , we aren't choir boys anymore

:smiliedance:

Jerome Solomon's article is about Kubiak's Saturday night pregame speech bringing the team together, but I really liked this one part...

Did you see the Texans come together and respond when Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan acted as if he wanted to tussle on their sideline? A host of Texans — the finesse squad that was manhandled by the Jets in the season opener — jumped into the fray.

To protect the guilty, we won't name any names, but one Texan, not wanting to get ejected for throwing punches, left LP Field with a small chunk of red hair that used to belong to Finnegan. If Finnegan wants it back, he can try to retrieve it at Reliant Stadium in November.

We're boasting about our "new-found toughness" because one of our guys got into a catfight?

Seriously?

Wow. I never expected the Titans
to be so weak without Fat Albert
in the middle. NOT ONCE did a
Tack lineman blow up the interior
of our o-line, which was a
specialty of Haynesworth. Titans
are on a path to 8-8, 9-7 ville.
Soon, they're gonna start
screamin:

BRING ON VY!!

I know you're a big guy, but would you have mixed up with Eric Winston when he was pissed at Vanden Sloth.

Well he probably felt that way since we probably won't see another TD score from Jacoby Jones for another year or for several games if history has shown us anything about this guy, and we'll be subjected to more of his outlandish PR plays that end up in disaster.

It's no surprise that Jacoby can bust a nice play every now and then, but over all the guy isn't a good player at all. He's a high talented guy that's never going to become a stud of any kind. He's not some rookie any more where people can keep saying "well we'll just let him develop." Hell Kubes was trying to trade the guy before the season but there were no takers. Every team in the league has a guy like Jacoby Jones who can bust a big play every now and then, but the difference is most non Texans fans don't know who these guys are, because they're just 4th and 5th stringers the same way fans of other teams have no clue who Jacoby Jones is hardly, because he isn't anything significant either when he can't even beat out guys like Anderson and Davis as 3rd and 4th string WR's.

I'm with Dale on this one, and I'd rather not have to deal with the muffed punts and the costly TO's that this guy brings.

Hell yeah! I'd take Finnegan over any one of are CB's on this team no question. Finnegan was one of the best CB's in the league last year. He hasn't gotten off to such a great start yet this year, but the guy's a quality corner and I don't care how much you hate the guy because he's a Titan I'd take him any day of the week and so would every other GM in the entire league.

Everything you complain about the guy for, you'd be praising him for if he was a Texan.

If you think that, you don't know me.
I'm all for guys standing up for themselves and pushing back when they get pushed. But the cheap-assed crap I've seen him do, like jumping on A.J.'s head when the pass was clearly unplayable by either guy...?
That's bush league.
He does that crap because he has no talent. Guys like that, with no talent, have to bring you down to their level to compete with you.
I've seen them in weekend warrior games. We all have. If you stay focused, ignore them, and play your game you expose those frauds every time.
And at the end of the day, all those chicken-***t bucketheads do is make the OTHER side play that much harder to make sure the little shits get beat.
No thank you.
Play hard but play clean.

You gonna pick on jacoby in every thread?

What?? He didn't jump on AJ's head. You certainly do like to over dramatize things here. The ball was just starting to come down out of the air and he tried tried to hit Johnson in motion so he couldn't make a good dive at it without feeling some contact while going for the ball. It probably should have been a penalty but the refs didn't call it because it wasn't a ball that could have been caught any way. I don't think for one second that you would dislike Finnegan if he were a Texan and he had a year like he did last season for the Texans instead of the Titans especially if you're sticking up for Jacoby Jones of all people the way you are. The guy is a Titan so you hate the guy. I get it. But to act like hasn't been a good player is just not true.

He does that crap because he has no talent. Guys like that, with no talent, have to bring you down to their level to compete with you.

Has no talent? Then what does he have then, some of the best instincts in the entire league at his position then? He was the starting pro bowl CB on the other side of Asomghua last season on one of the best defenses in the league last year.

The Texans have possibly the most embarrassing defenses in the entire league right now with maybe one good CB in Dunta Robinson and you're trying to tell me that you wouldn't want a guy who was a starting pro bowl CB last season because he talks a little smack??? That's got to be one of the silliest things I've heard in a while.

YOu know that's part of the problem with the Texans defense. They don't have players that play a little nasty. Hell, that's have the stuff I hear people ***** about every day on this site, is how we don't have any nasty players on the defense.

What is this? Do you have a response or a counter argument or did you just want to include yourself in this thread by posting a few words? I was referring to what Dale's comments were actually and I agreed with exactly what he said.

You've made your feelings
about him known in another thread, suprised to see your essay in this one. He had his own thread with people firing off on him. Not picking a fight. Just saying.

His name was mentioned so I commented on it. I probably will again when he gets referenced since so many fans can't get off of their fixation that one day Jacoby will become some pro bowler or has such top tier talent that he could become a defensive back one day.

Look I'll be happy to eat as much crow as you can shove down my throat if Jacoby Jones ever becomes a big time consistent player. If he ever has a 1,000 yard season you can even start off your own thread and tee of on me, but I've seen enough of that guy's actions on the field to know that he's just another Jerome Mathis where people get excited over nothing.

Nobody thinks JJ is about to be a 1000 yard receiver but throwing a ball his way a few times a game seems to have it's benefits. Just don't fling a ball at him on a quick hit slant route and he usually makes a play. Everybody who has seen an Eagles game knows they are going to try to throw one (at least one) over the top to Desean Jackson because he's fast and catches a big one every couple of games but they still try it every game because it's worth trying. Nobody ever progressed with no chances to progress. Given this chance I say he moved forward as a receiver.

Jacoby Jones and Desean Jackson are not even remotely comparable as players though TK. Desean Jackson is a freaking stud and had a fantastic rookie season. No one on their entire team could even guard him in camp this year. Of course they're going to not only try to throw a few balls to Jackson, but they're going to throw a ton of balls to him if they want to have an offense that is.

Jacoby Jones is more of a guy like Hester or Joshua Cribbs. Those two would be more comparable examples, only Hester and Cribbs are much better at PR/KR than Jacoby is and are both more advanced at being a WR as well even though both of them are in their developmental stages as well. Neither one of them has made anywhere near the mental mistakes that Jacoby has though either.

They just talked about the brawl on ESPN. Adam Scheftler is dumb. He said Andre Johnson would receive a fine. Yeah...I definitely didn't see AJ in the brawl.

He's probably saying that because a source told him that and not because he thinks he saw Andre getting involved.

At least that's how he usually reports.

Wow. Nostradamus says that it is DEFINITE that Jacoby won't reach his
potential. That's a hell of a statement. I chose to err on the side of
the Texans being the team that benefits from his improvement.

Looks like Fisher's blaming AJ for starting the ruckus. He says Andre Davis, but means Johnson.

(on if the coach’s tape showed any new footage of the fight)

I could not see anything, coaches tape does not show it. I’ve looked at the TV tape and I couldn’t see a punch thrown. You know, the whole thing started with Andre Davis [Johnson]. Walt Coleman misspoke when he said number 89, it was number 80. It was not number 89. Andre Johnson rather, jerked Cortland (Finnegan) down by the face mask on their boundary and that started the ruckus in the bench area. It was a crack-toss, he grab Cort and they we’re pushing and shoving and he had cloth and pulled him out of bounds, grabbed him down by the face mask and then Cort was trying to get loose. Then Jason (Jones) went in to rescue or whatever. I didn’t see a punch thrown, I’m not questioning whether or not. If you’re going to eject a player, you better be sure that he threw a punch.

I'm losing respect for Fisher. He's turning into a bigassed crybaby these days. I look forward when Slug Adams forces him to play VY.

Agreed. How long has he been on the competition committee? It seems ever since he became a "big wig" he has become more and more of a cry baby. He has his team play dirty football yet when other teams dish it back, he screams and moans to the refs.

The NFL has fined Titans defensive tackle Jason Jones $5,000 for his role in a sideline brawl during last Sunday's game against the Texans.

Jones was ejected in the third quarter for throwing a punch, according to officials. Jones said he only pushed a Texans player, and television replays of the incident appear to back him up.

“I know what I did,’’ Jones said on Wednesday. “I didn’t punch anybody.’’

Jones, a second-round pick in 2008, said he received the fine in a letter from the NFL on Wednesday.

“I didn’t know what it was going to be,’’ Jones said. “This is the first time I have ever been fined, so I didn’t know what it was going to be. But I am moving on and getting ready to face the Jets.’’

Wasn't it started by Slaton getting tackled twice? He got tackled by Bullock then again right after. I don't recall seeing Andre in the fight.

Andre and Finnegan were at it just to the left of the TV angle. Actually at it would be an overstatement. AJ had Finnegan's face mask and was whipping him around like a boxer with a chihuahua in his mouth.

yeah, it was pointed out clearly on the NFL Replay broadcast of the game last night. To be honest, I was a bit surprised to see AJ manhandling him like that, because like you said, it did look like a boxer with a chihuahua in it's mouth.

They only showed it once, so I couldn't tell if Finnegan's momentum was part of the overall scene, but it was evident that AJ was aggressively dealing with the guy.

First time I've ever seen him loose his cool. If Jones was fined I'm sure the crackpot staff at the Chronicle will let us know as soon as AJ get's his fine. I expect it to be substantial.

I have seen A.J. angry only once and that was when Sammy Knight, then of the KC Chiefs bumped him after he dropped a ball or something, but if anybody can make A.J. mad it certainly is the mad leprechaun.

I remember I said awhile back that that the Titans secondary was grossly overrated, Finnegan in particular, because of the inside pressure of Haynesworth. I remember getting some grief about how pass rush pressure doesn't make that big of a difference in how a secondary looks.

Does anybody think the Titans secondary looks any better than ours?

wow...whoever argued the bolded against you was clueless. The difference between 2 seconds and 5 seconds in the pocket is huge in terms of coverage. Pass rush/pressure is directly related to coverage. Texans fans, of all people, should know this simple fact.

lol, i'm calling shenanigans.

I second your declaration of shenanigans.

My respect for Jeff Fisher went way down last Sunday. Trying to get his team to get into a fight instead of playing football and then complaining about it when a fight happened and the Titans got the short end of the stick. Sending a 5'9''180ish guy to fight against a 6'3'' 225 man cut out of stone is certainly a coach I would want to play for.... Finnegan's lucky to have a friend to jump in after him because he stands no chance fighting a superhero like AJ.

Here are a few quotes from AJ concerning the brawl. Read the rest of his quotes too. I actually got pumped after reading what he was saying. It sounds as if the team got an injection of 'whoop that ass' before and during that game. I hope we see it translate on the field throughout the season.

(on Titans head coach Jeff Fisher saying he started the fight by pulling Titans CB Cortland Finnegan down out of bounds) "If that's how Coach Fisher feels, you know-hey, he watches the film. He knows what goes on out there during those games. That's all I have to say about that."

(on if Titans CB Cortland Finnegan's taunts make him play better) "I wouldn't say it makes me play better. I think it just brings something out of me that people don't normally see. Just some things happen, things I don't normally do, like the fight situation."

(on if he is worried about being fined for the fight) "No. Not really."

(on if he isn't worried because it was all WR David Anderson) "Hey, the penalty was on David, not me. I didn't have anything to do with it."

(on TE Owen Daniels saying that Titans CB Cortland Finnegan took a shot at him even when he was down later in the game) "Yeah, he did. That's him. That's Cortland. That's what you expect from him so, like I said, they know what goes on. They can say what they want to say but they know the things that go on out on the field."

(on if his annoyance of CB Cortland Finnegan has gone a step further to something else) "Sometimes, but that's part of football. It's a physical game. Everybody has their own plan. So, we just choose to deal with it the way we choose to deal with it."
