I want to know what you all think is the best and the worst decision texans front office have made so far in this teams young history.

The Worst: he did it the wrong way in carolina by going too old and then with the texans he does a complate 180 and tries to go too young! there needs to be a happy medium. Main point is the texans hiring Capers is almost as bad as bush being re-elected, when you can see a guy cant do something well why hire him? and dont give me well i guess Cass just thought hey hes got expansion expirience and hopefully hell learn from his mistakes and do it the right way here because thats bull! it might be the reason but that doesnt make it a good move.

The Best: hiring gary kubiak (the guy they shoulda hired in the first place years ago) as well as staying put and drafting the next LT in reggie bush, well i hope so.

dont be afraid to double up on opinions because this is kind of a poll with replies
 
THE WORST:

#1 Promoting Pendry
#2 Hiring Fangio
#3 Letting Glenn go.

THE BEST:

#1 Firing Capers, Fangio, and Pendry
#2 Hiring Kubiak
#3 Drafting DD at the spot they took him at.
 
Worst: The two "trades" PBuc and Babin (though that could have been the patheticness of the Defensive game plan.

Best: Not trading up for Sean Taylor and getting D-Rob

worst:

-the previous coaching staff
-pretty much exchanging jeff posey for charlie clemons
-letting sharper go
-letting steve foley go (failed to recognize talent....cmon guys!!)

best:

- a steal with domanick davis
(at this point i am having problems thinking of good things...)
- bringing in dan reeves
- new coaching staff
 
THE WORST:

1. Not trading down in the first year. We needed players more then a face for the franchise. It was a great PR move, but ultimately hurt the franchise.
2. Not putting together a better o-line. Way too many sacks.
3. Letting Glenn & Sharper go. It destroyed our defense.

THE BEST:

1. Hiring Kubiak.
2. Hiring Reeves. It solidified the Kubiak hire, set up a relationship with the Broncos, and frankly, we needed a good football mind in the front office other then Charlie.
3. Allowing the fans to tailgate. It was the best reason to come to a game last year. Oh and cheerleaders too!

Oh, and Aussie, what the heck is going on with that sheep?
 
The worst....a 3 way tie for me....promoting the offensive line coach to offensive coordinator..and not firing anyone who was involved with not having an NFL TE for 4 years...and the resigning and playing of corey bradford


The best....well you can't count Drob or AJ cause we couldn't have messed that up....let me think..the best...........................................the best...i think i'll go with the release of matt stevens

A. Picking up Carr's option
B. The Babin trade
C. The P-Buch trade
D. Tony Hollings with a rd2 Supp Drft pick
E. Losing games on purpose at the end of the last season
F. Keeping Capers past season 2
G. Keeping Cass around after this past season
H. Not giving Armstrong more of a shot
I. Announcing to the world of our new "Quick Step Drop Offense" we were planning on running last season
J. Release of Sharper
K. Release of Glenn
L. Covering up Earl's fight where he got sucker punched and the got his *** whooped by a teammate(s) and needed re-constructive surgery to put his face back together
M. The song when introducing the players, I like it but it's something that should change yearly
N. Putting the stadium in the parking lot of the dome. Every time i look over there it reminds me of the oilers
O. Working out Couch?????????
P. Is Steve McKinney still on the roster????
Q. Joppru, was there a pre-existing circumstance
R. Lost air-time in the Austin/San Antonio area.
S. The Clay Walker song is getting on my nerves too
T. Trading down for Travis Johnson

V. Taking a red-shirt sophomore with our 2nd pick in the team history (Gaff)
W. Beer prices (they may be fair compared to other stadiums but jeez)
X. All the draw plays on 3rd and long

Had we traded up to get Sean Taylor we wouldn't have gotten Robinson. Personally, I'd rather have Dunta Robinson. Sean Taylor has some major attitude problems.

Worst

Hiring Chris Palmer and Vic Fangio and promoting Joe Pendry
Drafting Tony Hollings
Drafting Bennie Joppru
Starting Seth Wand at LT
Not being able to build a decent offensive line in 4 years

Best

Drafting Domanick Davis in the 4th round
Drafting Jerome Mathis in the 4th round
Drafting Dunta Robinson
Hiring Gary Kubiak

Hiring the guy that should have been here from the get go!

-Take Jabar Gaffney when we could have taken Clinton Portis

-Trading those picks for Babin

Best

-Drafting of D.Davis, Dunta, and AJ
-Hiring of Kubiak
-Switching to a 4-3 scheme
-More of the best to come after this season

Worst - only investing one high draft pick on O-line (Pitts, and isn't funny how he is our best one.)
-Resign Braford

Best- Finding some second day gems (DD and Mathis in the Fourth, and CC Brown looks like a good late round pick)
 
Worst decisions:
- drafting a QB for the "face of the franchise", then starting the rookie behind an untested offensive line. Results: all-time single season sack record
- Four seasons and still no offensive line. Results: over 200 sacks on one QB
- Capers & Co. Results: 19-45
- Listening to NFL owners for advice. Results: Charlie Casserly
- Five draft picks for two players. Results: a CB who won't tackle and a LB playing out of position (hope still alive for Babin, though!)
- Not firing Palmer in the off-season. Results: turmoil and a streak of having not a single lead in the first 6 games of the season

Best decisions:
- Great colors & logo. Results: classy look
- Reliant Stadium. Results: state-of-the-art football facilities (along with the practice facility being part of the deal)
- Firing Capers & Co. Results: Hiring Kubiak and staff
- A.J. Results: talent that could be a top 5 WR
- D.Rob. Results: talent that could be a top 5 CB
- Tailgating in Houston. Results: happy fans and a tradition for generations
- Offering non-PSL season tickets. Results: a happy Texans Demolition Crew that can afford tickets!! :thumbup
 
No disrespect to anyone and i'm completely on board w/them hiring Kubiak, but how can some of you say thats one of their best moves so far? He's proved nothing yet. Zilch. Nada...

Forgot about that. At least we didn't start Victor at LT and Wand at RT. Actually, that would have been kind of funny.
 
The Worst
  • 1. Taking Boselli and being snookered into taking other Jags when a couple of them would have been cut outright.
  • 2. Not sitting Carr for a season and not giving him a good line
  • 3. Trading for Phillip Bu-cancer and letting Glenn walk
  • 4. Bringing in average FA and grossly overpaying them, missing on the great Free Agents.
  • 5. (tie) Vic Fangio was our defensive coordiantor
  • 5. (tie) Drafting TJ and now we are stuck with 4 high salaried players for only 2 positions.

The Best
  • 1. Passing on Vince Young and let David Carr blossom into a real system
  • 2. Not having significant injuries
  • 3. Battle Red Day uniforms
  • 4. This forum and the guys that make it run smoothly
  • 5. Drafting Babin (not necessarily what we gave up, but a good player)

The Best
- #1 hands down, is the Texans having the best stadium in the NFL built.
- Firing Capers, Hiring Kubiak, hiring Sherman.
- Drafting D-Rob, AJ, DD, & Mathis.
- Cutting Jamie Sharper and Aaron Glenn. (Actually this was just a smart move. Neither was worth the money we would of had to pay to keep them and both went on to have average to sub-average years and were signed for a LOT less money. Glenn if you watched him this year clearly has lost a step.)
- Drafting Drew Henson with a 6th round pick and trading him right away for a 3rd.

The Worst
- Neglecting the O-line the last two years. (Year one and two, ok it happens, but no excuses years three and four.)
- P-buc for now, this one might have a happy ending with a significant d-line upgrade.


The Unlucky
- Boseli & Joppru (Can't predict injuries)
 
yup the drew henson acquisition qnd subsequent trade was one of a very few (only) shrewd moves by Cass so far.

i never understood the hype on the guy???

I think the single worst decision in the history of the franchise was leaving the roof open in the Pittsburgh game in 2005. Were you there? Luckily for me my seats are on the west side Club level so I only had direct sun for the first quarter. And by then I was drenched in sweat. I think that was the first sign that 2005 was going to be a really bad year

The second worst decision was keeping Charlie Casserly. It's what's kept me from getting excitied about the changes in the coaching staff

The Bad:
1.) Keeping the coaching staff around after the downhill slide of the 2nd half of the season, 2004. The players lost all confidence in the staff. This should have been recognized by McNair and rectified.
2.) Letting the previous coaching staff influence who was chosen for draft picks and free agents.
3.) Letting Casserly overpay for everyone.
4.) Letting Dom Capers manage his coaching staff of good ole boys. Promoting the coach of the worst offensive line in the NLF to OC?
5.) Never making David Carr earn his job.
6.) Not making Capers and staff play younger talent after week 5 of last season.
7.) Looking like a completely incompetent organization with the goofy stadium roof decisions.

The Good:
1.) The Kubiak hire.
2.) Bringing in Dan Reeves to evaluate the situation.
3.) Cutting Walker, Coleman, Banks and Hollings.
 
I would reverse your best and worst. Capers was the best decision they made -- he led an expansion team to the cusp of a .500 season in just three years. That is a fantastic accomplishment. Kubiak, however, has to be the worst decision. He's an inexperienced coach with as much NFL head coaching experience as I have and then he turns around and hires an inexperienced staff to boot. In the very near future, you will be pining for the good old days when Dom Capers was coaching this squad during the first three years.
 
Funny how 98% of the bad can be traced back to good ol' charlie c.
I haven't weighed out all the pros and cons of his tenure, but i'm willing to say that the dumb moves outhweigh the good ones. Could he have just gotten lucky with the 4th rounders? We'll see on draft day if this madness continues.
