I have sat quietly by for the past three seasons waiting to see some excellence in this Houston Texan team. So far, I have been disappointed. For three years we have seen David Carr sacked over and over again. I have seen balls dropped by receivers that my daughter could catch. What is going on? Our first round, first pick in the 2002 draft hasn't lived up to the hype. I believed that once we aquired Carr, and after a season or two, the Texans would be unstoppable. I understand that this team is made up of mostly new players to the NFL or second-rate hand-me-downs from other teams. But coming into the fourth season, it's no excuse. By season four, the Texans should have built a solid passing game with Carr at the helm. The team should have been molded into a force that other teams fear. That is not the case. I have made some observations as to why:
Did anyone notice how easily the linebackers and defensive line of the Bills penetrated the Houston offensive line? Maybe Carr should stop worrying about his hair and take care of his players that protect him. It was almost like they LET the defense come through. I think Carr forgot to take the line out to a steak dinner before the game; or he did, but stiffed them with the bill. The Houston Texan offensive line? Thats what they are... offensive and groetesque.
Where is leadership from the stellar David Carr? After a sack that was brought on by a simple missed block, has anyone seen Carr grab that lineman by the facemask and scream, "Get your head out of your @$$?". After a dropped pass that looked like an easy catch, have you seen Carr rip him a new one in the next huddle? Here's what I've seen, David Carr ranting and raving on the sideline and then sulking in his pitty. He wines about most things, but does nothing to change them.
When a person, such as Carr, worries about their hair as a publicity stunt instead of proving their worth on the field, they belong to the ever growing Hall of Disappoint with the likes of Leif and the Boz. Prove your worth by what you can accomplish on the grid-iron. I'm tired of seeing you play golf and brush your hair around your ears on TV. Play football.

Carr needs to step up and motivate his team members. Favre fights for his team, and they respect him. Manning supports his team, and they block for him. Carr sits back and does nothing, and his Texans fall apart. That is the difference between a good QB and legandary QuaterBack. Carr falls somewhere below a good QB. I have read a few posts here in the Texans message board about a trade for Billy Volek of the Titans. He might not be the classical QB for the NFL, but he does possess one thing Carr lacks, the respect of his teammates. I have seen Volek throw wild passes that are not even close to their mark, but the reciever will sacrifice their body to catch it. I have seen the Titans offensive line use utter disregard for their safety protect Volek. For Carr, the Texans let linebackers through for a sack and not feel one ounce of regretfullness when David is laid out on his back. When a reciever drops and easy pass, it's like, "Oh Well, I'll catch Bank's throw when he comes in in the fourth quater after Carr gets injured." What is Carr lacking that makes the Texan's play harder for Banks and not him?? Maybe a trade for Volek with Carr would be what this Texan team needs.
It's time for a change. One more season to suffer through as I watch my Texans fall further down the **** shoot. Capers and the higher ups may want to reevaluate the Texan lineup after this season. If it means getting rid of Carr, so be it. It might be the change we are looking for. This is going to be a LONG season....
 
So you are blaming the QB for not motivating the line to block for him? Give me a break! When a guy is being paid millions of dollars to give that other guy with the ball in his hands wearing the number 8 on his shirt 3 seconds to look over the field and throw the ball, then I think he should be able to motivate himself to play to a high enough level. Oh, and by the way, why should DC be the leader? Because he is the QB? Ray Lewis is the best "leader" in hte NFL, hw gets his players fired up and ready to play, yet he is a middle linebacker. What exactly is stopping Pitts or Mckinney from stepping up and being the leader, and getting in someone else's face when they screw up? Why does no one blame AJ for not being a leader? Just because the guy is a quarterback and was selceted 1st overall does not mean he is responsible for everything that goes wrong with this team. Yes, Carr has plenty of faults, but I dont think that not motivating his linemen to block for him is one of them!

wow, if that is not the classic oiler homer reaction to a dismal start. I want to bring up the hated cowboys first. When they drafted Aikman and put the stars around him he still got his head beat in for the first three years. i mean it eventually knocked him out of the game. The o-line is bad because it is bad that has nothing to do with Carr. Aikman is a first ballot hall of famer, yet was he not a good leader because he got the **** kicked out of him for his first years in the NFL. Next your daughter can catch passes from a NFL QB with a CB and a Saftey breathing down on her. I am impressed. I mean have you ever played football above the 2a high school level. Understanding the shortcomings of our team, yeah i can say we have made some mistakes and we could be better, but you *****ing about it does not fix them. Offer up some actual and factual conclusions and solutions to the problems that you see and the rest of us will then dispute that.
 
Hey, in one game Carr already has as many rushing TD's as Aikman had in his 4th year.

And about 20% of Aikman's total INT's and sacks in that 4th year.
 
yep it's Carr's fault that the entire team is playing poorly, I think he's to blame for my plumbing leaking too.

In fact, if Carr would get the team to play better, the Houston Economy would prosper, unemployment would go down, less homeless people under the freeways, I guess we could blame every ill of the entire city on that damn David Carr.

Apparently, your name is either Kreskin, or you are in the huddle after each play. How else would you know how much regretfullness they have? I am not going to defend the oline, as they have been dog meat for a long time. However, in regards specifically to this Sunday, they were not the biggest problem. I suspected that might be the case while watching the game, but after I saw that Vinny had broken down every play (thanks Vinny!), that feeling was confirmed. Most of the breakdowns were with the RB's, TE's, or the QB. Blaming the line without breaking down the film is just typical fan response. It's like blaming the dog for the wet carpet the instant you get home, but after checking the security camera, you realize it was actually a leaky pipe. Too late though, as you already kicked the dog, and made him sleep outside overnight. Venting is one thing, but have some facts on your side, or you look like Ibar Harry....all talk and almost zero real insight.

I agree w/ u Proteus to an extent. Hopefully he is taking care of his O-line at the restaurant. But I don't think Carr has sucked like you've made him out to. I think we can all agree that we have seen some good things out of the guy. I think if he had the protection and time to throw he wouldn't have set the record for most sacks in a season. For him to be ranked up there w/ Michael Vick as far as rushing yards, not bad either. We've seen him take the ball in his damnself alot of times. He's had some pretty good numbers as far as passing. He'll be alright. O-line has to step up.

Ok ive been one of david carrs biggest hater but only because i know he wasnt gonna amount to **** in this league and 3 years and counting ive been right. but may be its not all davids fault sure he doesnt have that it that makes a great QB but my god we had Chris Palmer to groom him at thats were we went wrong i mean we knew david wasnt gonna succed in this level of football i mean the NFL isnt the wac conference you dont play no hawaii's or san jose state they do play the aggies oh no my bad its the utah aggies lol. but we could of helped poor david out by at least hiring a real coach or a real offensive cordinator i mean what would it take to get someone in like tom moore in here so next year when we draft Matt Lionheart we wont have these's clown meaning capers and palmer ruining his career like the did with david. :goodnight
 
Tony Banks has called DC "a warrior" also he has stated "this is David's team" plus, anybody in the organization will tell you DC won this team over in his first year by picking himself off of his a@* 76 times and never once complaining. I believe DC would grab an olineman by the face mask and get in his grill when he believes he is speaking and acting from a position of strength, meaning he has elimimated most of the holes in his game. How can you get in someones mug when you are making as many mistakes as they are?

What school a player went to, or what conference that school was in has nothing to do with whether that player can play in this leaque. What school did Roger Staubach go to? Oh yeah, the Naval Academy. What school did "Big Ben" go to? Oh yeah, Miami of Ohio!

I am DC number one fan. He has the attributes that I like in a QB, strong arm and mobile. But even as much as a supporter of the guy as I am, a wise man once told me "never confuse efforts with results."

I believe DC, along with the rest of the Texans will produce the results.
 
There's a lot of ingredients to this bad tasting recipe called the Houston Texans.

1. 200 gallons of fan's expectations
2. A dash of offensive line protection
3. A pinch of coaching
4. Two drops of personal responsibility by key leaders ("we" a.k.a. Carr)
5. A sprig of playcalling

Mix all ingredients well, cook in microwave for 30 seconds on high.

And...you should have a Super Bowl championship team ready for consumption. Tasty, isn't it?

It's not all David's fault, but he's in a tight race with Capers if you ask me.

The only thing bad about Capers getting canned is that it moves Dandy David right up to the top of the hit list once Capers is gone. Without Mr. Open Mouth on the sideline, Carr will have even more pressure to succeed.

He is a great guy off the field, and I'll argue that he is even too nice of a guy ON the field. But he better get some nasty in his britches if he wants to get to the next level.

Oh well...at least he isn't doing that running-down-the-field-cheering-after-he-throws-a-TD-pass thing that he used to do and made our team look like a bunch of tards on all the sports shows.

You have unrealistic expectations for both our players and our team. After reading your entire post, I get the feeling you don't understand how the NFL works.
 
I just got sat down to read the replies of the Thread I posted earlier today. Man, you are all in denial. Listen, I'm not a David Carr 'hater'... I just think he lacks the capacity to be anything greater than an average QB. We can blame the O-Line all we want... and we should because they truely suck. We can blame Capers, I could predict his play calling hours in advance. We can even blame Bush for the hurricane and Carr for your high gas prices. But the bottom line is this... after three seasons and into a fourth, we should be at least in the 'contenders' catagory. In fact, on a scale from 1 to Suck... we're in the high 9s. Now we have to face the Steelers?? Dear God make that loss painless. And it will be a loss, face it. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to repost to this thread and explain to all of you how I had to have my foot surgically removed from my mouth. I chose to pick on Carr because he IS the QB. Look at Oakland. They had a very unsatisfying season opener against the Patriots. Moss and Collins should have wiped the field with reception after reception. But, you put an outstanding reciever with a QB with a rating of 73 (I believe that was the number) and you have nothing to anticipate. Where is the weakest link in that duo? Collins sucks and couldn't pass gas much less pass a ball that was in the vicinity of Moss. And Carr? Three picks? Season opener and the only score was him running for his life. Face it, there must be a line-up change. The Texans need a leader, Carr is not him. Like I said in my first post, Favre makes the Green Bay Packers who they are. Without him, name a player who could carry that team. Same goes with Manning. Do you think the Colts would be contenders without him? In my opinion, it's the QB who makes the team. No one else. Lets see how Sunday goes against the Steelers, then I'll make a new observation. I might even change my tone. Until then, God Help the Texans...
 
I will give you that the QB gives the team its identity but it hardly makes a team. Look at past QBs like Archie Manning, Dan Marino, even John Elway in his early years. You have to have a team around the QB in order to succeed.

Rarely has a team gone to the playoffs giving up 5 sacks a game.

I for one am hoping David Carr performs surgery on your mouth to remove the foot but we have to be honest here. The team has not changed since last week.

carr is the leader,he has to take charge,and he needs to stop being a wimp(im not talking physicaly) and get in some players face,until then cowboys are the best texas have to offer.............jerry jones could give bob a lesson

Well, I went to the doctor after the game. He gave me a clean bill of health and said that my foot was no where near my mouth. <sigh of relief>
As I said before, this team couldn't get any worse. Carr causes the only turnover in the game, scrambles out of the pocket on every play, and makes the dumbest decisions when passing. Capers, I don't even need to talk about you. Everyone watching this game new you were watching a different one. The O-line, thanks from all of us. We are on the path to breaking our previous record of most sacks in a season. Thank you again. I took the Houston Texan bumper sticker off of my car today. Everyone here in NV always laughed at me, now I just want to be the unknown Texan fan. Does anyone read my posts without the Red-and-Black goggles on? I was hoping that this loss would be painless, but I knew that wouldn't be the case. The play calling was dismal and the play execution from Carr and the O-line made me sick. If anyone agrees with me, welcome to the other side. Atleast I'm not in denial anymore... and the truth shall set you free. Trade Carr, Fire Capers, send the Inquisition to get the O-line. Lets start from scratch next year and rebuild a good team. In five years, Carr will be working at Wal-Mart as a greeter, Capers will be coaching high school football in some small 7-man football team, the O-line will still be in an internment camp, and the Texans might be in the playoffs. Lets just get through this season and make money betting against the Texans.
