Texas Tech players

there are three Tech players that I really think the Texans need to take a look at.

1.DE Brandon Williams

ht-6'5 wt-252lbs
led the big twelve with 13 sacks as a senior. He is really quick and is the pass rusher that the Texans need. I think he would be very effective as a pass rusher his rookie year on passing downs. If he added about 15 pounds and got close to the 270 range, I think he could really develope into a starter in the future. I think the Texans could pick him up in the 3rd or 4th round.

2.S Darcel Mcbath

ht-6'0 wt-198

he had 6 picks and 70 tackles and was first team all big-12. imo one of the most underrated prospects in the draft. Ive watched him play closely for two years now and have never seen a bad play from him, he is great at run support and as sure of a tackler as you can have, hes good in coverage and is really good at jumping routes. this guy will be a starter in the nfl and Im not sure where he will go in the draft, anywhere from 2nd round to the fifth.

3.OG Louis Vasquez

ht-6'5 wt-333

im not sure how many sacks he allowed his senior year(if any) but I know the year prior to that he did not allow a single sack. he is a beast in pass protection, but I think his run blocking is a very underrated part of his game and he is fast enough to get to the second level. I remember reading something about the shrine game practices where they were impressed with his runblocking which is something that is not showcased much at Texas Tech. and also, he has an arm span of 34 inches and was was the top performer in the bench press out of all the linemen with 39 reps of 225 lbs.
he may be available in the 5th round.

Very good analysis of each one. All three have been on my radar. For the right price I would take any of them.

I also like all three, especially McBath..Walter Football has him 6th or 7th:thinking:..I think he'll go sooner

Since we just signed Antonio Smith, I don't see us going after Brandon Williams but I wouldn't mind drafting Louis Vasquez and I'd love to get Darcel McBath in the 5th or 6th round. I think McBath will be a good pro, someone just needs to give him a chance.

I think Williams will go in the 5th round. If we go DE in this draft I think it will be late so he is a possibility.

I don't see us going after Vasquez. Nothing against him, but he does not fit our blocking scheme.

I have McBath going in the 6th round. I expect we will go safety sooner than that and I don't think we will take two. I like him though.

Remember reading that Williams impressed alot of scouts. So he may go higher than you think.

Why dont you think Vasquez fits our scheme? Isnt TT offense lines blocking scheme similar to ours?

Again MaBath really impressed scouts with his physical style before getting hurt. He could go higher than you think also.

They may all go higher than I have them rated.

About Vasquez, I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread that he can move, but I have real doubts about his ability to get to the second level without those wide splits spreading out the defense. He also didn't face too many bull rushers because teams put their most athletic DT's on the field trying to get to the QB.

He is a big strong guy who is good in pass protection though.

I disagree, I think the Texans will take 2 Safeties in this draft. I'm hoping they go after Patrick Chung in the 2nd round as a starter cause SS is definetly a much greater need at this time and then take someone like McBath in the 5th or 6th round as a backup to Eugene Wilson. We just lost 2 Safeties, CC Brown and Will Demps, so I think we'll be replacing these guys.

Has CC signed with someone else? I haven't seen anything on him yet. Just wondering. Was hoping he would stay as a backup.

Where are you going to play a power-o offensive guard in a zone blocking scheme ? He's a good prospect....Dallas....Pittsburg....Jacksonville, Buffalo. Only thing we could do with him here is use him for a door jam in Mr McNair's office.

I think Vasquez could play the ZBS. The overwhelming majority of his snaps were in pass protection in Tech's pass happy offense. Tech's pass protection was great and those guys were quick on their feet, just because he's big doesn't mean he's not athletic and I don't see him as a power guard since Tech didn't run much of a power offense.

The only reason he came out was because he was graded as a 3rd rounder so I think he would be very dissapointed if he lasted untill the 5th round which I doubt...but I could be wrong. I also dont agree with Mcbath going so late, hes just too good.

I know you do I've read your posts.

I gotta agree with Pete on this one. I don't think Vasquez has the skill set to play in our blocking scheme. But I do think he will be a decent player for another team.

The other 2 I'm not so sure about. I think Williams made a huge mistake coming out early and I wouldn't touch him before the 5th round, and even then I would be hesitant. He got absolutely pwned by Oher in the Cotton Bowl.

McBath, I love the guy but I just don't think he is going to make it in the pros. Can't really say why I just never really thought of him making it at the next level. I wouldn't mind signing him as an undrafted free agent.

We use to have a guy on here named coach. He wrote a paper in here about the ZBS and what you should be looking for.....About this time of year....wanna look it up. go for it.

Look TT does what they do very well....three step drops....two seconds...the ball comes out. Mayock is talking about it when he talks about Herrel....like 85 % of their pass plays are under ten yard patterns and the o-lineman are not forced to hold their blocks that long. Where TT kills ya is the YAC. Yards After the Catch.

go back and read the guys numbers as compared to Jamon Merideth. Three cone drills ...forty: splits at the ten and twenty yard lines....there's a big difference there. Meredeth would be a very bad fit in Dallas. And Veaquez would be a bad fit here. Not saying they won't take him....It's possible. I think he's a very good prospect. His talents do not lend themselves to what we are trying to do...set up the double team...tackle slide off and gets into the second level and engages a man...safetys and linebackers, who are faster and better athletes than he is.... all of the lineman have to be able to run and move...quickly. They have to bloody well be able to run and set up and make blocks on the second level. That's why they are always looking for guys who have the feet of a TE. And the hips of a houchie couchie dancer. Not a road grader. Vesqueze's first challenge here would be to lose weight...at least 15 pounds, to gain speed and quickness.

I think they have their seven but a guy Like Lydon Murtha....and a guy Like Meredeth might just temp them after the fourth. Both are versiltile...cover multiple positions on the line....and both are very very quick.

the other two, if they took them some where in day two, I'd have no problem with that.

I think Vasquez could play in the zone blocking scheme, hes a big guy but he can run pretty good just check out the first play in this video. even though he doesnt get a good block on anyone, its just an example of how he can move.

I think Williams actually did pretty decent against Oher, even though he didnt get any sacks I saw him get to Jevan Snead a few times.

I dont get what why you dont think Mcbath will make it in the pros. Can you actually tell me a reason you say that? would you honestly prefer William Moore over him and do you honestly think he will not be drafted? I am very confident that Mcbath will be a starter in the NFL.
