Texas Longhorns 2011

Any fan who thought Texas was top 5 material is delusional. We looked exactly like what we are: a team made up almost entirely of freshmen and sophomores.

Great game played by OU. They knew our weaknesses and they exploited them.

Nobody thought they had established themselves as a top 5 team. However, they had looked progressively good during their first four games. Since they really had not played anyone before Oklahoma, many of us hoped this might be a breakout game where they established themselves as a surprise contender. Just like people do around here with the Texans pretty much every year.

But alas, it was not to be. OU pummeled the Horns and the hopes of their fans have been dashed back down to Earth. Such are the trials and travails of a true fan.

Now the Longhorns host the #6 ranked OSU Cowboys in Austin. And yes, Texas fans are hoping for a victory again this week. The Longhorns have a lot of talent on this team, but you are right, it is very young. So, here is looking forward to next Saturday in Austin.

The Longhorns just don't have the QB play to beat the Oklahoma State's of the world. Texas rushed for over 200 yards in the game, OSU's offense was having an off game and OSU still won by 12 points.

UT was a 5 win team last year. This year there are about 18 freshman who have played snaps and about 15 who have played major snaps. I think after a full year of seasoning they will be ready to compete with OSU and OU, but are not there yet.

I think a 9 win season is possible and would be a great turnaround from last year.

Yep. The Horns played much better against OSU than they did against Oklahoma. This team is getting better and could be a serious force to contend with next season.

Nine wins means four losses, assuming 12 games in the season and a bowl game for 13 games in all. That is very doable for this team I think. Then back to 10 plus wins starting next season.

Why is Texas having to play so many freshmen this year? Where are all of the players from the top 5 recruiting classes in the nation for the years of 2007, 2008, 2009?:hmmm:

That is a fantastic question. This has to be put to some significant degree on the coaches. If a few of those players did not pan out, that is to be expected. But almost three whole classes of top five talent? I don't think so.

The thing that gets me with UT...... is that they SHOULD be a top 5 program every year (they have NO REASON to ever leave the top 10), they have soooooo many advantages over other schools, money, recruiting, money, facilities, money, alumni, money, coaching staff, money, location, money, and the LONGHORN NETWORK WITH ESPN, money, etc...... yes they have won it with Vince. They have a TOP 5 RECRUITING CLASS EVERY YEAR, but to have OU DOMINATE you and have OSU come IN YOUR HOUSE and slap you around, 5-7 last year, this year complaining about being young and playing freshmen and sophomores, and "next year" we are going to be good..... that is all crap! CRY ME A RIVER!!!!! They better watch out or Baylor and ATM will beat them as well this year. They RUN THE BIG 12, why?????? They are not even close to being the best team in the BIG 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :twocents:

I looked up their recruiting ranking just for shits and giggles and the worst Texas has finished in the recruiting rankings were #20 in 2005 and #14 in 2007. The rest of the years they haven't finished lower than #5.

I have always said that the recruiting ranking are often based on who is recruiting certain players than how good the players are.

They have been getting the "Notre Dame" effect for some time now. When a good player commits to ND or UT, their rating tends to jump a bit due to the schools clout. It creates more hype than is really necessary and exaggerates their recruiting class ranks.

I'll tell you one thing that isn't helping the Horns at home is the crowd. I went to the game yesterday and that crowd wasn't loud for the defense for much of anything other than 3rd downs. I can see why the aggies are often known as having a tough venue, because they don't shut up. The game yesterday was rather quiet for 100k fans, especially considering that the game was close until the middle of the fourth. Last yer at the OSU game I figured the lack of enthusiasm was due to the poor outlook on the season and lack of attendance. I guess it's always like that, or maybe it was due to the OU blowout.

Texas fans are notoriously quiet.

Your fan inferiority complex is glowing.

Why is that? Isn't the point of homefield advantage the noise? I thought that was universal in football.

Dan B is right.

Maybe if Texas let more students into the games they could make more noise. But as it stands, 85,000 eighty year olds just don't make too much noise during football games.

I've been a Texas fan forever, and I've been to countless games. And I can tell you that our fanbase seems to live by this motto, "Come Late, Be Quiet, Leave Early".

Considering our massive stadium, I have no hesitation in saying that we are problem the most quiet fans in the nation.

Texas beats Kansas 43-0 in Austin to improve their record to 5-2 (2-2 in the Big 12, next week against Texas Tech in Austin). However, I did not get to see it, as this game was only broadcast on the Longhorn Network. Most cable providers including AT&T U-verse do not carry the Longhorn Network, so this game was probably only viewed by a pretty small audience.

While I am a die-hard fan of the Texas Longhorns, I have to say that the sooner that the University of Texas gets past this little experiment the better. The Longhorn Network is a great disservice to everyone except the University of Texas itself. And actually, it appears that it is probably a disservice to UT as well.

Also, it appears that David Ash, a true freshman, is now the starter at QB. This is a bit of a surprise, at least to me, as Case McCoy looked better than Ash in every game in which both of them played substantial minutes.

Nevertheless, it appears from the last two games that Ash is the starter for Texas at QB, as mentioned in the following article in the Houston Chronicle:

UT uses ground game to gash Kansas 43-0

Kansas defense is so terrible, both of our true freshmen RB had over 100 yards tonight, and both with 2 rushing TDs each. The game should've been 35-0 at half, but I'll take a shutout all day. IIRC, our defense only gave up 46 total yards, -2 rushing yards(20 rushes), and 3 first downs. We need to play like that against Tech next week.

Tech lost to Iowa St, 41-7 in Lubbock, unbelievable. We're playing them next Saturday at 11am, in Austin on FX.

Tech is notorious for getting up for a big game and after the win, completely imploding the next game or two

Wreck'em hell , Texas damn near killed them

UT 31 TT 6 halftime

Final Score: UT 52 TT 20

Texas third string freshman RB Joe Bergeron rushed for 191 yards and 3 TDs. Second string RB Fozzy Whitaker ran for 83 more, and the starter Malcolm brown sat this one out. Texas had 429 total yards rushing on the day.

Starting QB David Ash went 4/7 for 125 yards. Not much of a passing game today.

Also, the Horns became bowl eligible with this win, so they will be making a post-season appearance, unlike last year.
