Texas Bowl 2009

TxDavid

Veteran
This year's matchup is Big 12 vs Navy.

The midshipmen need one more win to be eligible. For the Big 12 opponent - I'm looking at Texas A&M, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas as possibles. Looks like there will enough eligible Big 12 teams this year to have one available for the Texas Bowl, unlike.the past 2 years.

Anyone going?

With a win over Notre Dame this weekend, Navy secured their seventh win becoming bowl eligible. They have accepted the invitation to play in the Texas Bowl vs a Big 12 opponent.

Current Big 12 eligible Teams:

Texas
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Nebraska
Texas Tech

These teams are 1 win away from eligibility.
One of them will likely play in the Texas Bowl:

Iowa State
Kansas
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas A&M

This week's Big 12 schedule:
Saturday, November 14

Texas at Baylor
Missouri at Kansas State
Colorado at Iowa State
Nebraska at Kansas
Texas A&M at Oklahoma
Texas Tech at Oklahoma State

Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa State's wins made them bowl eligible this weekend, and the Big 12 now has 7 bowl eligible teams:

Texas
Oklahoma State
Nebraska
Texas Tech
Iowa State
Missouri
Oklahoma

And three teams that are one win away from eligibility:
Kansas
Kansas State
Texas A&M

This week's Big 12 Schedule:
Thursday, November 19

Colorado at Oklahoma State

Saturday, November 21
Oklahoma at Texas Tech
Iowa State at Missouri
Baylor at Texas A&M
Kansas State at Nebraska
Kansas at Texas

I think if Texas A&M beats Baylor this weekend we will see them in the Texas Bowl against Navy.

I agree. It's a likely selection considering all factors. Texas A&M just has to win, and that may be a little too much to ask of them. This weekend is their last shot, as they play UT after that and frankly, there's no chance of them winning against Texas.

Texas A&M's win over Baylor made them bowl eligible this weekend, and the Big 12 now has 8 bowl eligible teams:

Texas
Oklahoma State
Nebraska
Texas Tech
Missouri
Iowa State
Oklahoma
Texas A&M

Kansas is the last team in the Big 12 that can qualify for a bowl if they win against Missouri this coming Saturday.

Likely pickups for the Texas Bowl are Oklahoma or Texas A&M. My thoughts are the Aggies will go to the Texas Bowl, and Oklahoma will probably go to the [Sun Bowl]. edit: Meant to say Insight Bowl here.

Upcoming Big12 Schedule:

Thursday, November 26
Texas at Texas A&M

Friday, November 27
Nebraska at Colorado

Saturday, November 28
Oklahoma State at Oklahoma
Kansas vs. Missouri
Baylor vs. Texas Tech

Saturday, December 05
Nebraska vs. Texas

Independence Bowl gets to select before the Texas Bowl I think. If so, they'll take A&M and the SEC team...probably Tennessee.

Texas Bowl will probably get Iowa State if things stay the same.

You're right, the Independence Bowl gets to pick before the Texas Bowl. I don't know why I wrote Sun Bowl up there, lol, meant Insight - been running through too many bowl senarios.......

Anyway the selection order is:

#1 Fiesta/BCS
#2 Cotton
#3 Holiday
#4 Alamo
#5 Sun
#6 Insight
#7 Independence
#8 Texas

All bowls are subject to the one-win differential rule except the Insight & Pizza Bowls. The three teams at the bottom are Iowa State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma - one of those should go to the Texas Bowl. I'm guessing/hoping/speculating that it may play out like this - #1 Texas, #2 & #3 OSU/Nebraska, #4 Texas Tech, #5 Missouri, #6 OU, #7 Iowa St, #8 Texas A&M. The Fiesta Bowl should pick an at-large since UT will be in the National Championship.

Of course, all this is conjecture, so take it for what it's worth....:monkey:

Independence will take A&M before they take Iowa State.

With a loss to Missouri this weekend, Kansas failed to obtain bowl eligibility. This might casue the Texas Bowl to be short a team, if the Fiesta Bowl selects Big 12 over the at-large bid. This might happen if Nebraska pulls off an upset over Texas this weekend. With a UT win, the Fiesta bowl will likely select Boise State, thus leaving 7 remaining teams to fill all the slots.

Looks like it will be either Texas A&M, or (more likely) Iowa State.

All will be decided this Sunday, December 5th.

texas Bowl announces teams: Navy vs Missouri

I find it quite odd that the other bowls passed over Mizzou for Iowa State. Do the Cyclones travel that well? Or do the bowls just expect them to since it's been a while since they went bowling' and Mizzou had a down year this year.

Not sure - the selection surprised me too. There may be a perception the Mizzou fans don't travel well?

It could be that there are enough 7 win teams that the Big XII lost one of their bowl bids to an at large team, thus shutting Iowa St out of a bowl. Unlikely, but possible I think.

Big 12 Teams so far:

Texas..............Fiesta/BCS
OSU................Cotton
(Nebraska).......Holiday
Texas Tech......Alamo
Oklahoma.........Sun
Iowa State.......Insight
Texas A&M.......Independence
Missouri...........Texas

Nebraska has yet to be announced - but they must be in the Holiday Bowl.

Nebraska & Tech have yet to be announced.

Oklahoma St is in the Cotton, not the Alamo.

I'm guessing that Nebraska will be in the Holiday and Tech will be in the Alamo.

sucks that the Sun will be Oklahoma vs Stanford. would've been nice if Nebraska made it, for the incredible Suh vs Gerhart matchup

So is anyone going to see Navy take on Mizzou? I'm a little excited about this game.
Plus we get to see some good football played in Reliant for a change.... :monkey:

If I go, I'll be holding a sign that reads "Suck it slavers"

My hatred for them runs that deep. I'm also considering bringing a small noose to attach around the neck of a stuffed version of their mascot while I walk around the stadium. I hate them so much it makes me sick to even think about it.

Go Navy!
