Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State

Go Cowboys!!! My dad is an alumni and took me to a bunch of games as a kid.

I remember a funny story when I was a teenager. My dad went to see them play. So I asked him how it went. He said "Ok I guess, they did win. But Thurman Thomas got hurt so they brought in this fresman named Barry Sanders. He's an ok player but he ain't no Thurman Thomas."

What a load of ****!

This Aggie coaching staff is so pathetic with their halftime adjustments. Where the hell is the pass rush? Where is the aggressive play?!? Horrible play calling, guys out of position, Jonathan Stewart making about the most bone-headed play I have ever seen hitting the guy when he was way out of bounds, etc.

The Aggies are going to get ****ed in the SEC. If they thought the Big XII was hard, they are going to think the SEC is hell.

Anyway, only the Aggies could find a way to **** things up like they did today.

I really wish I had been raised as a Texas fan...
 
Obviously they are going to have a rough time in the SEC but it's still a smart move in the long run. More money, better recruiting... the list goes on.
 
So did anyone else feel like they were watching the Kubiak coached Texans in this game? The Aggies start strong for a half, have a great running game, and then abandon the run in the second half. Just pathetic. We're supposed to have 2 1000 yard rushers in Gray and Michael, but neither one of them was the focus of the offense. Tannehill is not a great QB, he's a game manager who can make some decent throws, but not the kind of guy who can win the game for you. His accuracy is pretty bad, even on short throws, but he gets away with it because his WRs make plays. Pretty poor way to start off the season, looks like another 9-3 to me.

I agree, if any team goes to the SEC right now they would end up getting crushed for most of the season. Cream of the crop is in the SEC right now.

The SEC is tough? Gee, thanks Sherlock. I guess no one associated with A&M was aware of that. I'm sure they will accept Texoma and seven dwarves offer to stay thanks to your post. Seriously, if there are any top recruits in the state of Texas who want to play top level football but stay in state, A&M's quality of recruits is about to go straight up.

"only the Aggies.." obviously you have never seen a team called the Texans... Although if the Aggies coaching is so poor that the defense is completely unprepared for a no-huddle offense then it doesn't matter how good the recruits are.

This was really the key for me. The Ags have plenty of talent... except amongst the coaching staff. Hopefully this will change soon.

It has been a cursed existence since I was a boy and was an Aggie/Oiler fan and now as an adult as an Aggie/Texan fan.

I don't have a clue what it feels like to cheer for a championship caliber football team. :crying:
 
Was at that game and it felt like all the times we've seen the Texans collapse against the colts, except Payton wasn't playing. I just couldn't understand why A&M couldn't figure out how to defend the hurryup and why they couldn't get lined up in time. It was frustrating to watch.
 
So who runs Aggieyell.com? I take it this guy was not a Houston Oilers fan back in the day. After 35-3 I would never do something like this.

I think winning will get A&M more top recruits. Losing in the SEC wont be any different than losing in the big12. If a kid really wants to play in the SEC they will go to one of the premier schools like Florida, Alabama, LSU. A&M will have to earn that.

Another thing to consider is the kids who "want to stay in texas", will have to leave the state for all conference games. Less likely family and friends will be able to see them.

A&M going to the SEC will open even more doors for SEC schools to raid Texas HS stars. Outside of the $$$, it's a lose for A&M and the other schools in the state.

That's ridiculous as I've stated numerous times. The kids that want to go out of state already do. Those kids watch more games on TV than in person and almost every SEC game is on TV, either ESPN or CBS, so those kids are already exposed to the SEC schools.

We'll find out just how ridiculous it is. A&M is about to become a whipping boy for LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. They will be an afterthought in college football. But, they will have more money. I guess that's the important thing.

I have a feeling it may work in reverse, esp for players on the fringe. A&M can use lines like this: Its a good, solid program striving for elite status. Texas players can stay in Texas and play against the best teams/conference in college football, and you can be a part of the SEC with a better chance to get more playing time than trying to make a the squad at a LSU, Bama, Fla, Auburn, etc..the SEC produces the most players in the NFL, so I can see nothing but good for A&M as far as recruitment (selling argument)...A&M will get to share some of that prime SEC $$$ to further its program and more exposure. JMO

So are you arguing that A&M will be a SEC also ran or that the SEC will be poaching Texas kids? You keep changing your tune so I'm not sure. :splits:

That line never works for a top recruit. A&M will be a 2nd division SEC school. They won't compete for the SEC title. They will be Ole Miss. Not that they were winning Big 12 championships, either. Yes, they will be in the SEC. Yes, they will have LSU, Bama, Auburn, and occasionally Florida in Kyle Field. And these schools will have their potential Texas HS recruits in the stands.

Football wise, A&M will be worse off in the SEC. Money wise, they will be better off. Let's just admit that it's about the money, and nothing else matters.

I'm not defending the Longhorn Network. Both of these schools have sold their souls. I think Texas will find a way to succeed on the football field. A&M will not. They should have been tied at the hip forever. The whole thing is a travesty, but considering what they did to the SWC, it's not surprising. I guess this is the logical conclusion to Texas college football.

They have 4 home conference games, which could be bigger opponents than #7 ranked OSU, but those are already home games. They aren't adding much. Yes it will bring them more national exposure, but i'm "assuming" it wont cause kids from other states to go to A&M.

I saw a quote from Mack Brown the other day that said something to the tone of "going to the Pac16 would definitely hurt recruiting, because kids want to play locally. Playing Tech, Rice, A&M, Baylor are surprisingly selling points from the standpoint that most Texas kids grew up routing for one of these Texas teams".

Without rambling too much, I don't think A&M made the wrong move. Its a huge gamble that could make them the premier Texas university one day... but it all starts with winning in the SEC. I also think the big12 eventually blowing up would be good for A&M.

Of course its about $$$ but I said fringe players, it's been a long standing practice to sell a recruit on starting at School A versus sitting at School B...but lets take this to one of the conference realignment threads.
 
What if Baylor brings legal action to stop A&M from leaving? It was my understanding that the SEC would pull the invite.

Agree. I'm not sure what the difference is with a conference if your product doesn't do the job. My Frogs have recruited well for a decade now in the state using 3 and 4 star guys and they get it done. A&M has had one of the biggest budgets, workout rooms and fanbases forever now and it doesn't translate. Heck they haven't been relevant in a decade or more. The SEC will just be the equivalent of being Miss. St. where you are middle of the pack to last every year. The SEC is already poaching Texas kids just like Notre Dame and schools in the Big 10 did in the 80s and early 90s.

I agree with what you are saying, but you're also making a point the other way. The reason why TCU doesn't get the 5 star kids is due to their conference quality. Common aggie opinion is that if A&M plays in an even bigger conference than the rest of the Texas schools, they will steal the top kids. Looking at it strictly from this narrow scope and i would agree.

I think there's a good chance of the exact opposite happening. Recruits from Texas considering A&M as well as an SEC team like Arkansas or LSU will go to a game in Texas and the game will convince them. Sort of like the situation with Adrian Peterson. He was considering UT or OU. After OU beat Texas in Dallas that year he committed to OU, because he thought he had a better chance at a title in Oklahoma.
