Texas A&M OL Villavisencio Killed In Crash

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M senior offensive lineman Joseph Villavisencio has been killed in a car accident, according to the university.

Witness reports say that Villavisencio swerved to avoid a buzzard and veered head-on into the path of an 18-wheeler near the town of Normangee about 40 miles from College Station, on Thursday.

Villavisencio spent part of Thursday with the team delivering gifts to families at a local shelter after the Aggies finished their last workout on campus in preparation for the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Villavisencio was heading to his home in Jacksonville, Texas, at the time of the crash.

Sad to hear it, but take it as a lesson to yourself and any young drivers you know, never avoid a small animal while putting yourself in danger. I knew a girl in high school who totaled her car and had a hospital stay after swerving off a road to avoid a squirrel and she went right into a big concrete lamp post that toppled over onto her SUV. Gotta protect yourself and your passengers first before you worry about animals.

Yes and I believe the same thing, but sometimes it's hard to stop the reflex of swerving away from a live creature. I almost drove off the road last week to avoid a cat......and I hate cats. You should just hit these creatures, but in split seconds your initial reaction can be all it takes to end your life. I'm sure this kid knew to not turn away and I'm sure he was also told to do that (every kid is told that)...yet he still did. It's all reflexes and sometimes in the fraction of a second you don't have the time to process what's going on in order to make a level headed decision and raw instincts take over.

Sometimes **** just happens. Having said all that...yes, don't swerve, before you get into a car just remind yourself of that and be prepared for that possible scenario which is what I now do after what happened last week.

Anyways..RIP Joseph. So sad to see, especially during the holiday season. It beaks my heart.

Very sad to hear this news. Very tragic.
People, especially young people, are often influenced by this crap they see on TV and read which is put out by organizations like PETA about the exaggerated importance and significance of animals, even wild animals. Well their value is infinitesimally small compared to the value of human life.
Now of course I have no idea if this was a factor in this accident, but one should keep his/her priorities straight when on the open road traveling at high-rates of speed, especially if they are in an area inhabited by large mammals like deer. But remember, it's just a dumb-azz animal and make sure you don't place it's safety above that of your own and other occupants of your car and other cars in the area.
