TexansSeminole's Pre-Combine Mock Draft

TexansSeminole

Hall of Fame
1. OLB Robert Quinn. Our premier OLB. He lines up opposite Barwin on day one. This assumes that Fairley, Bowers, AJ Green, Peterson, Miller, and Dareus are all gone.

2. S DeAndre McDaniel. Ideal strong safety. Covers and plays the run well. Won't wow you with his athleticism but will make plays all over the field.

3. ILB Nate Irving. A bit undersized, but has a nose for the ball and is an aggressive playmaker in both run support and pass coverage. Had 40 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, and 4 interceptions in three years at NC State. He had a monster year last year with 21.5 tackles for loss and 7 sacks.

4. OLB Jeremy Beal. With 58.5 tackles for loss and 29 sacks in his four years at Oklahoma, he has the production you look for in a 3-4 OLB, but he lacks speed and overall athleticism. We will see how he does at the combine. I still think he is a good football player.

5. DE Mike Blanc. Not much of a pass rusher, but can be disruptive and give us some depth along our defensive line.

6. DT/DE Anthony Gray. Low to the ground and active. Could provide depth along the defensive line with Blanc.

7. OLB Markus White. Played DE at Florida State. Athletic football player that projects best at OLB. He has good pass rush ability. He had 28.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in his three years at Florida State.

All defense ?

3 OLB's

4 LB's in total

You must really not like the Texans LB's. I could see taking Quinn,Irving and White. Add a CB or S somewhere and I could get on board with this mock.

I don't think we have anybody to play OLB on the roster except Barwin. I suppose Anderson could give it a shot. We need to add a bunch of guys and hopefully get one or two to contribute. Quinn would be a starter, and you'd hope Beal or White compete for some playing time. You cant hit on every pick, it's strength in numbers.

DeMeco Ryans is coming off of an injury, and Cushing may end up being better outside. We have Sharpton, Diles, and Adibi to compete but Nate Irving improves the position.

We also need defensive lineman. I would try to draft two of those. They can be late round picks if we go linebacker earlier in the draft.

Ideally, I would like to go all defense in this draft, depending on who is available. I'd be on board with a guy like Rodney Hudson in the 2nd round to improve our interior offensive line, if we take care of our defense with the rest of our picks. I would rather take an impact offensive player @ 11 or 43 than to draft a later round offensive player.

Agreed

You've thought this through.

I could see the Texans taking Jones in the 1st. Or Torrey Smith in the 2nd.

I'm with you on the LB corps needing to be strengthend. It was the 2nd weakest position on the defense behind the S position on the defense last yr.

No Ponder? Texans need to draft a quality arm who can make NFL throws to develop soon, while Kubiak is still here. Got to give him some rep at least he turned around the QB position. Now he can finish the job with a better sucession plan.

May be bias here but I think Tyrod Taylor has everything he needs to succeed in Kubiaks offense.

I haven't concentrated on the LBs so I really can't say much for certain.
I don't think the Texans will draft more than one LB in the first 4 rounds though.

I doubt they go ILB (moving Cushing to Mike). Quinn would be the ideal fit @ OLB if he's there? adding a complimentary speed/edge rusher to the mix later a serious possibility, someone to develop like Dontay Moch, Nevada.

I have a feeling someone like the Jets are going to reach for Moch in the 3rd round. Ryan loves athletic pass rushers and Moch is pretty much just that
