TEXANS VS TITANS II INJURY REPORT

Hoyer is playing I betcha QB usually don't miss more then one week with this hole concussion thingy

I bet some of these test which they do which they don't tell us what they do are just two guys in a room talking and looking at pictures LOL

anywho JJwatt & Mettenbeger Saga Continues :P

Hoyer would be wise to reassess not only the possibility of returning THIS season, but also whether he should return next season. He is coming off of his FIFTH concussion.............and remember that this refers only to DOCUMENTED concussions......unlikely an accurate number.

Research suggests that for every concussion, the person is 1-2 times more likely for a second; 2-4 times more likely for a third; and 3-9 times more likely for a fourth; ~6-18 times more likely for a fifth (which played out predictably with Hoyer's fifth being so close to his fourth)...........and extrapolated to ~12-36 times more likely for a sixth.

Although I believe the Concussion Protocol as followed by the NFL is a joke, with a player having sustained concussions within 1 month of each other, it is my opinion that it would be a serious miscarriage of judgement to allow a player to return short of 2 games missed.

yall know how many concussions Troy aikman or Brett farve has had ..?????????? or heck most of the qb's of the 90's TO MANYYYYYY TO COUNT !!!!!

just saying stop acting like hoyer is on his death bed right now prob at NRG right now drinking a coffee

Now there's an intelligent response! I would suspect that you are one of those pointing to George Burns who died at 103 years old as being an example why people shouldn't stop smoking because smoking doesn't cause cancer.............and if it does, it only causes a little cancer.

BTW, coffee while recovering from an acute concussion?............caffeine restricts blood flow to the brain and dehydrates it...........the last thing he needs to be drinking.

The Texans won't be facing Mariota. After sustaining a left MCL sprain earlier this season, he's sustained a significant right MCL sprain........he's out for the season!

You might want to go look up Ladarius Green - TE for the Chargers. Reportedly 2 concussions in 2 weeks. He missed one game, and was back. He's since missed one game, but that was for an ankle.

As I've said in other posts - I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's what happens.

I do not dispute that it happens. Only that it SHOULD HAPPEN. But the NFL IS LIABLE if they permit and even encourage it.

People die needlessly for refusing to wear a helmet and a very few die needlessly participating in skydiving. I have trouble convincing my sons that skydiving is an unnecessary risk. It's something that shouldn't happen, but you have to leave it up to them.

And look at them now. There are times when Aikman is broadcasting he makes no sense at all. Favre has said before if he had a son, he'd be leery of him playing football because of concussions. Favre has also begun to notice himself forgetting specific words and not being able to finish complete sentences.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I realize it happens. But what one has to also realize is that passing the Protocol (if it is even strictly adhered to) only reflects the cessation of objective signs and symptoms.........not that the brain has completely healed from the damage it has sustained or the longer term implications and risks to re-concussion. It is obvious that in most cases of early recurrent concussion present more than a gentle hint as to the player's brain susceptibility to subsequent concussion. Of course, there will always be exceptions, but common sense in most cases should prevail.

It should also be pointed out that no two concussions are the same. Not arguing with CnD at all, and I believe the difference becomes negligible after sustaining multiple concussions, but Dr. Chao talks about this weekly on the Sirius NFL channel. It boils down to the player being honest from the baseline all the way through the protocol. Any player that would be honest has probably already retired from the game, regardless of the level.

im just saying I don't know Hoyer personal but he seems like the type of guy that u know wants to PLAY in the NFL his future isn't certin the NFL is his JOB the way he provides for his family and im pretty sure if cleared and healthy he wants to PLay and protect his job and future cus he might not even play here next year he would hope to play for another team that's all im saying

Like Dr. Chao likes to say..........."Like snow flakes, no two concussions are alike." But that also means no two concussions are entirely predictable from the other as far as short-term or long-term consequences. What is known is that multiple concussions make the overall picture even more unpredictable, even more reason to play it on the safer side, especially when occurring temporally closer together.

Some of Derek Newton's poor play can be attributed to re-injury of his elbow during yesterday's game. Clark came in for him for only a few plays, as Newton played through significant pain the rest of the game. He initially injured his elbow ~3 weeks ago and was listed twice for that injury, but not last week.

But getting the player to be honest during the tests are key. That's not going to happen very often.

Having a family changes your perspective and he's a family man. I don't think he's trying to beat the concussion protocol like some players would.

Titans favored by 4.5 at the moment. Pretty shocking line, to be honest, and should raise some concern for Texans fans.
I didn't know Tennessee had that many fans with money to throw away. Perhaps that line does not include pertinent information on their QB status...or perhaps it does.

CnD, you can do this yourself.

At the top of the page before the first message in the thread on the right you'll see Thread Tools. You can edit the title in there.

Found that out the other day.
I thought that this option timed out at a certain point, certainly 24 hrs when I first noticed it like the last TT software.

Even though Hoyer was only listed as a "concussion" on the injury report last week, he was also dealing with a neck and wrist injury which was not listed.

Thanks for the information. I just checked a thread I started and found the tools. Very handy to know.

Mariota has been ruled out for the Houston game. The team has reported that the injury is somewhat a lesser strain to his right MCL than initially believed. He has been left open by the team to possibly start the next game against the Colts. The question has to be asked.....why the heck would you chance a re-injury or a compensatory injury in your franchise QB who has suffered a recent MCL, and has already missed games earlier in the season with an MCL of his opposite knee......in a game that means absolutely nothing. If he does play, it just confirms why the new Titans are who they are.

I actually just changed the TITLE.........unlike the past TT software, there appears to be no time limit...........thanks for the info.

I heard on the radio coming in to work this morning the Texans were "laying" 4.5. I'm not big on the point spreads and gambling, but doesn't that mean the Texans are 4.5 point favorites? I can only find one web site at work that has the point spread and that says "even", but I don't know when that was posted. FYI, work computers are fire walled like crazy, I get any of the "point spread" sites to open.

edit...the USA Today (in the NFL odds section) does not even have the Texans/Titans game listed. And they have 5 different Vegas books listed.

Everywhere I look we are 3.5-4 point favorites.

This concussion article is a must read! It re-inforces what I have been trying to explain in the past, and some here cannot accept..............that resolved symptoms following a concussion does not equate to a healed brain.

Here's just an excerpt..........but take the time to read the entire article:

He felt completely healed when he returned to play on Nov. 29. Then he suffered another concussion on Dec. 13, after being driven to the ground at least six times during that game.

“Generally the time between concussions decreases as the number of concussions increase, suggesting that the brain is at higher risk for more brain damage,” said Dennis Molfese, a professor of neuropsychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and founding director emeritus for the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior. “A concussion is a brain injury. My bias is that it is a permanent brain injury.”

The trouble with symptoms

The NFL identifies brain injuries by concussion symptoms -- there is really no other way. But just because someone doesn't have symptoms -- headaches, dizziness, confusion -- doesn't mean they don't have an injury.

“The public and a lot of lay media have this idea that a concussion occurs the moment you get hit and that will be discovered,” said Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, a neurologist and the executive director of The Sports Neurology Clinic. “When the reality is you need to be very cognizant of the fact that the injury can produce symptoms later on.”

Handling concussions is complex for Texans players

As far as acupuncture that Hoyer has undergone, it may help in relieving some symptoms, but I've never seen any studies demonstrating it has any positive effect on healing a traumatized brain. Most neurologists would have to agree.

Why Brian Hoyer believes acupuncture helps concussion recovery

"A lot of the things we find patients doing and physicians recommending are more to treat the symptoms rather than underlying cause," said Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, a neurologist who is the executive director of The Sports Neurology Clinic, when asked a question about Hoyer’s use of acupuncture. "I try to be very specific about that, because the idea that something that makes your headache better or improve neck stiffness or dizziness or some other aspect of concussion may not, or probably is not addressing the injury itself."

Tania Ganguli ‏@taniaganguli 1h1 hour ago

i did too. RT @AsleepT: @taniaganguli I thought players weren't provided for interviews when in concussion protocol?

A player diagnosed with a concussion in a game will not be made available to the media after the game. The concussion-related medical exemption from media obligations extends to the practice week until the player is cleared to resume activity, i.e. running, lifting, attending meetings, etc. The player does not have to be cleared to practice to be made available to media.

Someone should relate to Tania the true interpretation of the Concussion Protocol rules as relate to the media.

HOUSTON TEXANS

Wednesday (12/23/15)
DID NOT PARTICIPATE

S Rahim Moore Illness (because of his nauseating performance in practices)
WR Cecil Shorts III Hamstring (in addition to the groin injury that is not officially listed........he has been dealing with hamstring issues off and on this season.......the groin and hamstring injuries are complementary/compensatory injuries)

LIMITED PARTICIPATION
QB Brian Hoyer Concussion (enough has been said)
T Derek Newton Elbow
DE J.J. Watt Hand/Groin (still having residual effects from the Victoria's Secret event)

FULL PARTICIPATION
RB Alfred Blue Back
ILB Max Bullough Shoulder
OLB Jadeveon Clowney Hamstring
NT Christian Covington Ankle
TE Ryan Griffin Achilles (new listing from ankle last week......probably playing with words)
CB Kareem Jackson Ankle
C Ben Jones Hand/Ankle (ankle new addition)
OLB Whitney Mercilus Back
RB Chris Polk Knee
G Xavier Su'a-Filo Calf (back to dealing with an injury that hobbled him in the preseason and early season)

TENNESSEE TITANS

Wednesday (12/23/15)
DID NOT PARTICIPATE

NT Sammie Hill Knee (had his first knee injury of the year was a meniscus, which had kept Hill from playing in the first two preseason games, but he’d worked his way back into playing in the third preseason contest at which time he sustained another knee injury.......this time an MCL, which required clean out and repair surgery......he couldn't return to play until Nov 1.......has not missed a game since, but has had ongoing knee problems and not practiced regularly, looking like the Titans would have done just as well if he did miss all of the games this year)
QB Marcus Mariota Knee (hope he and the team don't trot him out this soon after even a "mild" MCL......even with a Grade I sprain, you expect 1-2 weeks while wearing a brace, which he was wearing today.........but even if the risk of re-injury may be relatively low, why would a smart organization under the circumstances consider taking it?..........I answered my own question.)

LIMITED PARTICIPATION
S Da'Norris Searcy Hamstring (2 weeks ago, he left the game with a hammy........has not returned to practice until today.......high risk for re-injury if plays Sunday)
WR Kendall Wright Ribs (missed the last 2 weeks with 2 rib fractures he sustained in week 13.........if he plays this soon, expect a quick exit with a hard hit........doesn't make sense since he'll essentially probably be the Titan's 5th WR)

I think the chess match over both Hoyer and Mariota have more to do with diverting attention in precious practice time than actual game planning.

Weedon vs Mettenberger!

Count on it.
