WR DIONTAE JOHNSON [TOE].................SUSTAINED A "LEG INJURY" DURING TC [THERE IS A LOT OF PLAYING AROUND WITH INJURY DESCRIPTIONS DURING THAT TIME SINCE THERE ARE NO REQUIRED INJURY REPORTS]..................WEEK 1, HE WAS LISTED AS "FOOT" INJURY..............WEEK 2, HE WAS LISTED AS "TOE" INJURY..............IN FACT, THESE HAVE ALL BEEN A RESULT OF TURF TOE..............HE HAS MISSED EACH WEDNESDAY PRACTICE (THE STEELERS FULL CONTACT DAY) SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE REGULAR SEASON, BUT PARTICIPATED EACH THURSDAY AND FRIDAY PRACTICES..............THIS INJURY HAS ESSENTIALLY NOT HELD HIM BACK WHEN IT HAS COME TO GAMES............HE SHOULD PLAY THIS SUNDAY.

WR JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER [KNEE].............HIS KNEE INJURY CAN BE TRACED BACK TO JAN 2019 WHEN HE SUFFERED A BONE BRUISE TO HIS LEFT PATELLA..............HE THEN MISSED 4 GAMES DUE TO A PATELLAR INJURY WHICH ALSO INCLUDED THE PATELLAR TENDON.............IN WEEK 1 OF THIS SEASON, SHOWED UP WITH A KNEE ISSUE.................LIKE DIONTAE JOHNSON, THE PAST 2 WEEKS, HE HAS NOT PARTICIPATED ON WED CONTACT PRACTICES..................IN WEEK 2, HE PERFORMED COMMENDABLY..............FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEDUCE, HE IS DEALING WITH PATELLAR ARTICULAR CARTILAGE DAMAGE FROM HIS ORIGINAL BONE BRUISE INCIDENT............AND POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN LONG-TERM CONTINUING CARTILAGE-DEGENERATING AND ARTHRITIC ISSUES..............HE SHOULD PLAY SUNDAY.

RG DAVID DECASTRO [KNEE]............SUFFERED AN UNDISCLOSED INJURY TO HIS KNEE IN TC AND HASN'T PRACTICED SINCE THE FIR WEEK OF TC.............HE CONTINUES TO NURSE HIS KNEE, WEARING A KNEE BRACE DURING HIS PRACTICE TODAY................AUGUST 2012, SUFFERED A RIGHT PATELLA (KNEE CAP) DISLOCATION WITH MCL RUPTURE, BUT WHICH SPARED HIS ACL.............AFTER NOT PRACTICING FOR SUCH A LONG TIME, IF HE PLAYS SUNDAY, EXPECT HIM TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY COMPROMISED, NOT THE VICIOUS RUN BLOCKER HE IS KNOWN TO BE.

DE TYSON ALUALU [KNEE]...............SUSTAINED A KNEE CONTUSION LAST WEEK.................MAY SOUND SOMEWHAT BENIGN, BUT WHEN YOU TAKE HIS HISTORY INTO ACCOUNT, IF I WERE THE STEELERS, I WOULD BE QUITE CONCERNED................IN HIS 2010 ROOKIE YEAR, HE SUSTAINED A RIGHT KNEE INJURY WHICH INVOLVED BOTH HIS MENISCUS AND ARTICULAR CARTILAGE............HE DEALT WITH RIGHT KNEE ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE 2010 AND 2011 SEASONS..............FEB 2012, HE UNDERWENT A MENISCUS TRIM AND ARTICULAR CLEAN UP KNEE SURGERY................IN OCT 2012, HE UNDERWENT KNEE SURGERY, MICROFRACTURE SURGERY....................2013, THE JAGUARS MOVED HIM FROM DT TO DE END IN ORDER TO TAKE STRESS OFF OF HIS KNEE (TO TAKE HIM OUT OF A 3-POINT KNEE-, BENT STANCE)................HIS KNEE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE NOTICEABLY AFFECTING HIS PERFORMANCE................HIS KNEE CONTUSION, UNLESS VERY MINOR, IS LIKELY TO KEEP HIM OUT OF AT LEAST THIS SUNDAY'S GAME.

*************************

SOME ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

RG STEFEN WISNIEWSKI [CHEST]..........SUSTAINED A PECTORALIS TENDON TEAR WEEK 2.........LEFT THE GAME 1 PLAY BEFORE RT ZACK BANNER SUSTAINED HIS SEASON-ENDING ACL REQUIRING SURGERY............WISNIEWSKI WILL REQUIRE SURGERY, AS EVEN A PARTIAL TEAR WOULD BE EXPECTED TO EXTEND TO COMPLETE RUPTURE WITHOUT SURGERY...............BOTH HAVE BEEN IR'ED.

I posted this in the Steelers thread:

Roethlisberger lost last season to a major right elbow (throwing arm) injury/surgery. The (original) injury gave him several years of pain.........and from overuse and a sudden acute force, resulted in an injury that he was not expected to come back from. Three tendons that were torn away from the bone were re-attached using bone anchors. He apparently has come back strong........for now at least. Although last week, he connected on a long pass with his WR, for the most part, he has been throwing screens and short crossing routes. He threw 32 times in week 1 and 41 times in week 2. The question still remains how long will his arm "maintain," especially if he tries to increase the number of longer passes?

COOKS [QUAD]..............AGAIN WILL MINIMIZE PRACTICE STRESS.............AND PLAY SUNDAY.

GILLASPIA [CONCUSION].............PROGRESSING THROUGH THE PROTOCOL..............HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF COMPLETING THE PROTOCOL BEFORE SUNDAY...............MY CONCERN IS THAT PRIOR TO THE CONCUSSION, HE WAS DEALING WITH A HAMSTRING.............AS I'VE POSTED IN THE PAST, LOWER EXTREMITY INJURY RISK IS SIGNIFICANTLY ELEVATED FOLLOWING RECOVERY FROM CONCUSSIONS.

HOWARD [ANKLE]...............HOWARD PLAYED WITH HIS ANKLE INJURY LAST GAME AND ITS EFFECTS WERE NOTICEABLE.............ALL BUT VERY MINOR ANKLE INJURIES NEED AT LEAST A FULL WEEK OR 2 PERIOD OF REST AND REHAB............I'M AFRAID THAT WE WILL AGAIN SEE HOWARD COMPROMISED.

DUKE JOHNSON [ANKLE]............WITHOUT A FULL WEEK OF FULL PARTICIPATION, I WON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE SEEING HIM OUT THERE ON SUNDAY.

KALAMBAYI [HAMSTRING]............SUSTAINED THE HAMSTRING DURING LAST WEDNESDAY'S CONTACT PRACTICE..............DID NOT PLAY IN WEEK 2................AGAIN WITHOUT A FULL WEEK OF FULL PARTICIPATION, I WON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE SEEING HIM OUT THERE ON SUNDAY.

TUNSIL [ELBOW]..............SUFFERED AN ELBOW HYPEREXTENSION AGAINST THE RAVENS.................HYPEREXTENSIONS IN A LINEMAN MOST COMMONLY OCCUR IN BLOCKING AND RESULT IN A MEDIAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT TEAR.............EXPECT HIM TO BE WEARING ONE OF WATT'S EXTRA ARTICULATED BRACES SUNDAY.

WATT [GROIN]..............THE WEEK BEFORE, HE WAS LISTED WITH A HIP INJURY.............HE NOW IS LISTED WITH A GROIN INJURY SUSTAINED............AGAIN, IF YOU REMEMBER MY PAST POSTINGS REGARDING THE RELATIONSHIP OF HIP ABNORMALITIES WITH "SPORT HERNIAS," IF THE HIP IS NOT ADDRESSED, THE GROIN SURGERY COMMONLY DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND CONTINUED/RECURRENT PROBLEMS IN EITHER STRUCTURE WOULD NOT BE UNEXPECTED.

I don't know if I missed it, but is there any update on Fuller?

Fuller definitely was having hamstring issues during the Ravens game. He was given treatments on the sideline during the game. Yet he was not formally reported with the injury during the game [as required by the NFL injury reporting policy].

Last Fri, he was listed on the Injury Report as "Did Not Participate.........Not Injury Related." With his participation/performance in the Ravens game, I can hardly believe that the Friday Injury Report was not related to the hamstring. And now he has not been placed on the Injury Report at all. I will be holding my breath during the Steelers game.

GILLASPIA HAS PASSED THE CONCUSSION PROTOCOL.

THE ONLY PLAYERS, I WOULD THINK ARE READY TO PLAY ARE D. JOHNSON AND KALAMBAYI (WHO I FEEL COULD BE READY NEXT WEEK IF THEY FULLY PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICES).

STILLS STATUS WILL BE SOLELY DICTATED BY HOW HE RECOVERS FROM HIS ILLNESS (not COVID) BY SUNDAY. BUT UNLESS HE HAS A FULL BLOWN CASE OF THE FLU OR A SEVERE GASTROENTERITIS, I SUSPECT THAT HE WILL MANAGE TO BE OUT THERE.

DESPITE HIS DESIGNATION, WATT'S NOT INJURY RELATED STATUS TODAY IS RELATED TO HIS GROIN. I EXPECT HIM TO SEE ITS EFFECTS THE MORE HE PLAYS.

This is the 3rd consecutive week that Cooks has that quad injury. Is this going to be a season long issue? Also, are you surprise that Fuller is not on the injury report? I thought he tweaked a hamstring.

Fuller..........As posted above in this thread.

From the Sept 15 Injury Thread:

Prior to the Chiefs game, Cooks had very limited practice time with Watson because of his injury. His quad was far from 100% for the Chiefs game. He has now been able to return to full practice. Quads are like hamstrings..............they can be quite flaky and unpredictable, especially for the first 2 months after injury. In the mean time, he is likely to continue being somewhat cautious and vigilant, while rehabbing his quad through most if not all of the season. He will likely need to tone down his explosive moves a little for a while, in that it is such sudden moves which encourage re-injury of the quads. Hopefully, in relative short time, we will see the Cooks we have been expecting.
From Sept 16 Texans/Chiefs Injury Report:

COOKS, AS I PREVIOUS POSTED CAN BE EXPECTED TO BE LIMITED IN PRACTICE FOR A WHILE AS HE CONTINUES TO REHAB HIS QUAD...........SO THAT HE CAN PLAY IN REGULAR GAME.

This big week-long build up of the Watt vs Watts hype has me concerned. I am sure that JJ will be going all out to show up his brothers on Sunday. I'm afraid he is again going to push himself to play beyond what his body is capable..............and that formula is a perfect set up for injury.

Yeah I could see this happening

Doc did you catch Watson’s weird looking grab at his hamstring after getting hit hard in the 2nd half?
Possible lower limb injury or potentially that strange arm movement we see following a concussion? Commentary didn’t seem to pick up on it.
Watson is taking a pounding again this year.
